Team Mickey - Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Challenge

It's so hard outside for me to tell how fast I am running. Me, too!! The terrible thing is I pace myself by the dog! :lmao: I have a friend whose hubby is a triathlete :worship: and according to him pacing is a huge problem for runners. I think I might ask for a gadget for my birthday. DH likes techno stuff; I'm sure he'll find me something!

all you other runners/walkers/exercisers How did you get your speed up or how do you plan to get your speed /endurance up?
This question was asked a while back, and I think the biggest answer was surprisingly to just run longer. Eventually you'll pick up speed. There are lots of runners on WISH. I'm sure they have all the answers. ;)

Our church's kitchen is not working so no pancake supper for us! I could have made them at home but had some mashed potatoes left over and made vegetarian shepherd's pie instead. Yum. But DS1 had 3 helpings! No leftovers tonight. Also have a Costco roasted chicken leftover that will be chicken soup tomorrow. Think I'll add some salsa and rice for a little change of pace.

I'm hoping that I can use Lent as a motivator. I'm thinking about giving up those scrumpdelicious chocolate covered almonds. Unfortunately I just ate 3 servings of them in anticipation of my sacrifice. :rotfl: I should have just had the raspberry sherbert. oh well

Friday is coming--drink your water, Mickeys!

If you have a smartphone you can try out an app like RunKeeper. That's what I use. It tells you all kinds of things through your headphones like current pace, average pace, total time, and will even keep track of whatever intervals you set and tell you when its time to run or walk. And its FREE. I really like it. I have a Polar heartrate moniter watch too but I never ever wear it. The screen is just that ugly black and white of a digital watch and I would pretty much have to learn how to use it, which I have never done. There are some newer ones that are better, probably (Garmin 400 series, Nike has one too that looks nice). But for now I'm happy with the RunKeeper app on my iphone. I just put it in an arm band and take it running with me, and have my tunes going too. There are so many options though for running gadgets.

Dinner sounds like it was well received! :)

Sending out a big WOOOHOOO to all losers, maintainers and gonna-get-there-
next-week'ers!! :banana::banana:

Liz, LOVED this. I'm just out of plus size jeans and into Old Navy regular size ones. But I'm short - who knew that regular size 12 jeans would fit but I'd need 14 in petites? Grrr... Still a work in progress but I'm in this for the long haul.

Good morning TEAM MICKEY! ::MickeyMo

Congratulations to all our superstars, and especially to our Biggest Loser, myweegirls! :yay: Not only is Liz our BL this week but she has also met more than 77% of the goal that she created for herself. This is fabulous! :cheer2:

And a big congratulations to all of you who are sticking with this challenge through thick and thin, no matter what is going on in your lives and committing to this healthy lifestyle. :thumbsup2

sparkpeople.com has a lot of articles and information about motivation. Here is a link to a little quiz called "Are you ready to change your lifestyle?" http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/assessment_questions.asp?quizid=61 I've taken this quiz several times but this is the first time it's told me that I am actually living a healthy lifestyle instead of on my way. :goodvibes

Have a great day all! :goodvibes
Another big cheer for Liz!!! :cool1:
I have a hard time just keeping up with spark people - my time is really limited and just keeping up with this thread is sometimes beyond me. How do you stay organized on aprk people? Is there a "Spark People for Dummies aka Time challenged people" thread???:rotfl2:

But...anyways! I made the TOP 10 on my first week here! That is awesome! You guys are awesome! So, let's keep running off these booties and shrinking. :) If you can't tell...today has been pretty awesome. I have had one 40 minute 30walking/30running session and I FEEL AWESOME! So, Herpetology is calling and then I'll be back!
Congrats on a great first week!! I'm an up and downer for losing weight and this board is terrific motivation to keep going even when you feel like caving. Welcome!!:goodvibes

Hi Lisah! I'm sorry your back injury is so bad! Sounds like this accident is worse than the one before Tink! I wish it couldn't have happened at all, but at least this one didn't happen before Tink and knock you out of that race. That would have been horrible! Use that memory of crossing the finish line and getting that beautiful medal around your neck help you during these trying times. I hope you are on the mend and get better very soon.

My race schedule looks like this:
March 3 - Mustache March Run 2.85 miles-Duluth, MN
April 21-Fitger's 5K-Duluth, MN
April 28-Run For The Lakes Half Marathon-Brainerd, MN
May 20-Rockford, IL Half Marat-(this one is a maybe, I haven't registered yet)

August 26-Bloomington, MN Half Marathon
September 29-Tower of Terror 10-Miler at WDW
October 13-WhistleStop Half Marathon-Ashland, WI

Gosh, I have these on a note in my phone, but typing them out here reaffirms to me that I need to get my butt out the door on a run today!! :scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:

Have a great OP day today everyone! Let's all be losers today!

Lisa, phooey on the back!! I hope you are feeling better really, really soon!!

Melinda, I'm tired just looking at your race schedule. I was thinking about signing up for one measley half - in October. You are inspiring me to sign up for some more...

Later Mickeys - lets have a great week!![/B][/I][/COLOR]

My inspiration - JenA from Team Donald!!!! Totallly amazing mom, teacher, runner and motivational friend. I'm older than her but still want to be her when I "grow up"!! :goodvibes

It's been a crazy week for me and I have barely been able to check in every 2 - 3 days. I'm trying to do better this week. Right now we're heading over to Siena College for my son's first college interview! (he's a junior in high school)
Have a great OP day everyone!! :goodvibes

Good morning, Mickeys! :)

I'm trying to keep my momentum up - I'm finding that I want to cut myself more slack as I get closer and closer to goal. I don't think it's self-sabotage so much as it is feeling like I can coast a little bit (which I know I can't) sprinkled with a little fear of actually making my goal. That sounds *crazy,* I know, but I've had this goal for so long. What do I do when I get there?! Even though I'm lifetime at WW, I've decided to go through maintenance again - it's been 12 years since I did maintenance, and I think I need the transition to maintaining when I do get to goal. Now to make sure I don't slow myself up too much for those last few pounds!

I weighed in at my meeting yesterday and was down another pound, which is awesome. I hit the bike last night for 45 minutes (thanks, Desperate Housewives!) and did Ripped in 30 this morning. The fitness repair people are coming tomorrow to replace the console on my bike, which kicks out midway through my circuits. I can keep riding, but I can't use any of the data - they determined that the console is shorting out, and it's thankfully under warranty.

I also need to figure out what strength stuff to do after I'm done with Ripped in 30 in a couple of weeks (I've been doing 2 weeks per workout instead of 1). Does anyone do Power 90/P90X? I keep hearing about them but don't know much about them. What's your favorite strength workout?

XO
Liz

Ugh, I have no motivation. I have this mental block I just can't push through. All those insecurities about not succeeding and it not being worth the aggravation are really starting to make me mad.

How do you know when you've reached rock bottom? I really don't want to get there before I do something with my life.

Agh, why is this so hard?!?!?!?

OK OK my pity party sucks! I think I'm going to go hit the treadmill and take my vitamin D.

Bad eating day yesterday and I didn't even do my mall walk.
Today - no time to exercise as I have a business dinner...ugh (ok, well, not really, it is at a REALLY nice steak place!).

I hope all the Mickeys here are having a great OP day today!!

We've all had days like these! You are not alone, girlfriend! In fact, before this challenge, every day was like this for me. I'm serious! You are here, you posted about it, and now its time to start your day over. Right this second. Hit the treadmill. Get outdoors for a few minutes even if its just to get the mail or the newspaper. It will do you some good. :) Good luck and have a fabulous day! Please give us an update later today if you can. Sending good vibes your way!!:thumbsup2

Well, today is a new day. Here's an idea to get in a little exercise at least. Park your car the farthest (safe) parking spot away from the entrance to the restaurant that you can. Plan to have time to walk to the front door and back to your car, as if you forgot something. That will give you a decent little walk totalling a few minutes at least. That will give you a little boost, and set you up for a great workout tomorrow. Just an idea. :) Good luck and I hope your meeting goes great!:thumbsup2:cool1:

Buffy--It's worth the aggravation. Everybody has the insecurities. We should all talk about it more so we all realize we are not alone. Hang in there. I think hitting the tm was a great idea.:goodvibes

Evening all,

Did 2 20 minute workouts on the elliptical today. I am under calories due to the workouts which means I may treat myself to something tonight. According to where I log my food and exercise I am way under for protein today, a little over for fat today but right on for carbs! I have had my water and NO SODA today!

Fighting off a cold right now! I think the kids gave it to me! Not bad yet and I'm hoping with working out that it won't get bad. I have to workout at least 40 minutes everyday! Brian got on the elliptical while Ash and I were out taking care of the dog.

Got the kids some clothes today for PCC 3.0. I saw a few bathing suits that I liked but I won't buy any until I lose some of this weight! 4 months to go so this is a good start!

I'm hoping that the Energizer Bunny in me is back to stay for awhile! I want to start seeing my name on the losers list once again! It's been too long!

Time to accomplish something!

:wave2:

I haven't had time to read or post here for a few days. If I get time I will try to read back, not sure if I will be up to commenting.

IBS flare again so feeling cruddy. I think I am going to have to try a 6 week gluten free trial and see if that helps any. As I lay awake feeling miserable last night I told myself that if I just make it through the night without my intestines coming out of my belly button (major bloating!) I would definitely try GF and see what happens. I am also going to have to cut out coffee, beans, nuts and veggies until this settles down again. Back to white rice and plain chicken. On the bright side I have been rather stuck at the same weight for the last few weeks-- this should help me break that!

I think I also pulled a muscle in my calf. I went ice skating! Yep, ice skating. I used to ice skate all the time in college, but of course haven't been able to for years. Since I have been doing better I had to try-- just to prove to myself that I could do it. 1st lap around I had a death grip on the wall but I did 3 more laps without even touching it. And after 4 laps, I was done! And when I took off the skates I realized my calf was on fire. Haven't been able to walk without major pain but it is better today. If it didn't cost $9 to go I would probably try it again another time. We had a groupon that was for 4 people so it was a good chance for me to try it.

I have been doing a whole lot of Pinterest surfing to find new recipes to try. I am really interested in finding regular recipes that are South Beach diet friendly or can be adapted easily. I have found quite a few I want to try. I also bought some quinoa and have been looking for ways to make it. I haven't tried it yet.

Thanks Melinda and Rose. I never did hit the treadmill. I went to finish watching the Biggest Loser because Bob yelling usually guilts me into a workout. Well the show was a huge mistake. What a bunch of whiny little brats. Do they not see that they are blowing the single biggest opportunity of their lives?!?!? Oh I got so mad!!!
Then the kids wanted me to go outside because it was nice out and I knew that if I went outside I would feel better but I still didn't go out. I just didn't feel like standing there while they rode bikes in the driveway (don't have a bike to ride myself).
OMG, all around pity party for me today.
And now about 2 hours ago I started coughing again. I just finished my antibiotic. What the heck?!?! It's a really barky cough too. ERGH!!!!
I don't know. Hopefully I can actually get some sleep tonight (also part of my problem).

Sorry to be such a Debbie Downer!!!
I think I will finish up here and go to bed.

I hope you get some good rest and tomorrow is a better day. I didn't get any exercise myself today either, but tomorrow I will! I am not going to get on the computer until I have exercised!

I'm just plain tired out! I've been working out hard and doing better with my food than I ever have but it feels like the stupid scale is just stuck.

Ugh!

Off to bed; I have weigh in at the gym tomorrow for the BL there so I want to get in an extra work out tomorrow.

:lmao:

Aahhhh! Yay! My weird pattern of down a bunch, up a bit continues! I'm hoping for a maintain this week instead of the slight gain that always seems to follow a big loss for me, but either way, the overall trend has been great, and you guys are a big reason why! Thanks for the constant inspiration. :grouphug:

My kids, definitely my sweet wee (but getting less wee every day!) girls. I look at how sluggish I felt before I started down this road, and I know I was setting a poor example for them. Now they see their mom making exercise and activity a priority, and I hope against hope that it'll stick for them, along with choosing healthy foods. I already feel like I'm so much more able to run with them - it's amazing!

And to be honest, I'm also motivated by jeans. My jeans that used to be aspirational and now are too big. The Loft curvy fit jeans I tried on today in a size 6 (!!!!!!!!!) that fit. I love jeans, and working from home 80% of the time means I get to wear them a lot, and I want jeans that not only feel great on me but that I also feel great in. I want DH to compliment my butt in jeans, and I'm not ashamed to admit it! (Okay, maybe a little bit...)

Hope everyone has a wonderful week! I have my WI on Tuesdays at my WW meeting, so I'll know soon how this week went...

XOXO
Liz

I love it...My kids motivate me, oh yeah and I want DH to notice!!!! Ain't it the truth!?!?!?!?! :lovestruc

Hi guys! I'm back, after a horrendous couple of days with my bipolar disorder. But, one black eye and a glass of water...and I'm sitting here talking to you guys again! Woo!

Um...I just wanted to say, I've had another rough couple of days. So, I probably won't be weighing in this week. It would only be a negative thing...and I don't need negative.

*kisses to everyone from a hyper active sweaty girl*

 I am glad you are here and we can help!!!!!!!!!! XOXO

Hi Lisah!
I totally agree with what your coach and physical therapist say... let your body recover completely. If you do too much too quickly the rest of your body will compensate for the injury and that can cause other injuries due to overuse of the area of the body compensating for a weaker part. Let your body do its thing and heal itself. Of course keep talking to your coach and physical therapist about it so everyone is on the same page. Hopefully you will be back out there in no time. And I agree that you will not lose any conditioning. Your muscles have memory and will go right back to what they were doing. Take it slow, ease back into it, and try to stay physically active as much as you can during your recuperation. I was just sick for a week and got little exercise during the week. I had a 2 hour workout last night (spin class followed by a training session) and I bounced right back. I was so worried about it because just walking up the hill to church from the parking lot on Sunday winded me and I felt so weak. That's the difference a day makes. And mindset and determination. For me so much of exercise is mental (which doesn't bode well for me, lol.) :lmao::rotfl: Seriously, I have to really concentrate on what I'm doing or I end up having negative thoughts like "I can't do this". That part is getting better because I am proving to myself all the time that I CAN do this. And, you can too!

My race schedule looks like this:
March 3 - Mustache March Run 2.85 miles-Duluth, MN
April 21-Fitger's 5K-Duluth, MN

Melinda --- Great Advice and WOW GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are a great inspiration!! Looking forward to hearing about your races!!!

Hi Mickeys!

I had to run an errand today. I left the house just after 5:15 AM and didn't get home until after 12 Noon. A friend called in the middle of the errand and asked if I had some time to hang out with her. I spent the afternoon with her. I was expecting to be there later, but I wasn't, and was home for taco night. I will definitely be drinking extra water tomorrow.

I have started keeping a reusable water bottle by my bed. I find I am drinkng more water now. :thumbsup2

My motivation is all of you. I also saw a before/after article about a girl whose before stats were similar to my current stats. She is also the same height as me, and we are close in age. She is now wearing a size 0 and has a maintain weight similar to my goal weight. She also has a larger chest and didn't lose much there and looks great. Good motivating picture.

I am exhausted and am really ready for bed. Night!

CC

CC great idea about the water!!! :hippie:

Hope your calf feels better today!!

Thanks everyone all of your Posts were MOTIVATING!!!!!!!!!!!

I am working on making myself a priority! I realized this week that I am saying yes to too many people, causes, work etc...

I need to focus on getting healthy myself. That is my goal for the next week!!

Reading all your answers makes me feel less selfish and more empowered and knowing I need to focus on myself for all the right reasons!!

QOTD: THURSDAY What do you drink?

Pretty simple...but I have got to kick the Diet Coke habit. I started drinking Green Tea and sometimes Crystal Light along with my water. I just want the flavor!!!:yay: :surfweb:

Happy Healthy Thursday!!! :cheer2:
Nancy

QOTD: THURSDAY What do you drink?
Diet Pepsi!!!! Love it, crave it, Love it!! I'm not a water drinker, hate it, no lemons, no crystal light, nothing helps, I hate water! I do drink propel which I like ok, but never straight water (possibly in the heat of the summer a few gups but on rare occasion).

I ran a 5K this morning in 38:45. That's pretty good for me. I actually went 3.25 miles. I decided my personal goal is to get up to 4 miles even if I have to walk most of the last mile at first. It seems like as soon as I get to 3.1, I stop the treadmill! So that's my new goal to keep increasing distance.

Have a great day Mickeys and stay on track!!

QOTD: I drink lots of water with mango aloe, tea, and sometime Crystal Light. I am trying to cut my soda down to 3 a week again. It's easy if I focus on it. On the weekends I drink raspberry white Russians, margaritas and whatever interests me! LOL!

Feeling crummy today. Cold kicked in last night. I have a few things to do around noon today and then it's back to bed or snuggling with the kids on the couch while watching movies.

Hoping to get in at least one workout today. Hoping the Dayquil will help me be able to do this.

TTFN :tigger:

:wave2:

Feeling a little better today. Stomach is still not great and my calf is still pretty sore, but definitely better. Kind of bummed because it is a beautiful day out and I would love to go for a walk (haven't been since Saturday). But from what I have read rest is the best thing for my leg so I guess I will just have to wait a few more days.

Need to drink a lot of water today, I can tell that I am dehydrated. Generally I drink a cup of coffee in the morning followed by water for the rest of the day. Sometimes I make a glass of iced tea (unsweetened) or Crystal light for lunch and/or dinner. I gave up soda when I started this BL challenge last Jan and since then it has become a very occasional thing. I have a 24 pack of Pepsi Max in my refrigerator that has been there for months. Since I am off of coffee right now to rest my tummy I am subing a cup of hot tea. And sometimes in the evenings if I am feeling hungry or just need something sweet I will have a cup of diet hot chocolate.

Need to get my scrapbook desk cleaned up today. A friend is coming over to scrap tomorrow. We were doing monthly crops at our pool clubhouse but we haven't had anyone interested in joining us the last few times so it isn't worth the effort. We may just do one or two crops a year and see if we can get more interest over the summer when the membership is around. So anyway we canceled for tomorrow and decided to just work here for a few hours.

I need to figure out how I am going to go about trying GF for about 2 months. I will probably try to start on Monday. I am kicking myself because I still had a bunch of GF stuff left from when we did it with DD11. I cleaned out the pantry and gave it away on Freecycle. Now I have to go and buy it all again.

Everyone have a great day!

QOTD: THURSDAY What do you drink?

Water, OJ, water, a pre & post workout drink, water, chai iced tea (unsweetened but the sweet flavor is very satisfying), water and a soda 2-3 a week.

I don't really like diet soda but I'm drinking it to get my soda/caffeine fix occasionally. I was back up to 2-3 cans of non-diet a day again before starting the BL challenge last month! Tonight though, after the weigh-in at my gym I am treating myself to a huge REAL Pepsi with lots of ice. :lovestruc

Oh, did I mention I drink water? :rotfl:
