Team Mickey - Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Challenge

Hello all! I've been a little MIA lately. I have sent in my weigh-ins...not that anything has happened there. A steady 0 pound loss two weeks in a row. Oh well, at least it wasn't a gain. :)

Things have been crazy here...so exercise has been pretty much non-existant and food has been so-so. Tomorrow is a new week for me... and shopping will be done later after I drop my youngest off at a birthday party. ;)

We had a huge gymnastics meet yesterday at our gym which means tons of work for the gymnasts parents in terms of setting up for the meet, working the meet, attending the meet your child is in and taking down everything after the meet. It can be so much more exhausting than traveling several hours to a meet.

But....for both of my girls it was an AWESOME meet!! My youngest, Kiana age 11, got 4th on vault, 2nd on bars, 1st on beam, 1st on floor and 1 All Around. My oldest, Corinne age 13, got 3rd on vault, 1st on bars, 2nd on beam, 2nd on floor and 2nd All Around. So the exhaustion was worth it. They got tons of medals and they even got trophies for All Around. :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

A bonus QOTD for Sat., 2/18: In light of the HHs being a focus on basics and our future, what is one thing you can do today, being a Saturday, to help make the week smoother?

I'm working on making adjustments to my meal plan and shopping list. Also going to map out my workouts and my work hours so I don't end up so tired that I won't get my exercise in.

This is a great question!

hi teammates! finally hitting up this thread while i have a second (one kid napping, the other having lunch) to say hi!

i had a nice woosh on the scale this week after a crummy week or so of weighing in. we are going to WDW on 5/19 and i would really like to be 145 when we get there. 145 puts me back in the "normal" area of bmi. i have 7-8 lbs to lose to get there. i started the challenge at 162.5 so i'm happily plugging along.

a question for my fellow runners - melindaruns, myweegirls (right?), lisah, maria - at what point do you guys start taking in food and water on your runs? do you drink/eat after a certain amount of time run or after you hit a certain mile? i ran 5 miles today and after 3 miles i really felt thirsty. of course i didn't have water with me. as my long runs get longer i need to make sure i have water with me!

Awesome on the weight loss! I agree with what Rose&Mike said. I take water no matter what if its hot out. If I'm going for more than 5 miles I will take GU's or Clif Shots and a bottle of water. I used to take water all the time if I was going like 3 miles or more, but it became tedious. I love races so much because they have all the aid stations and you don't need to take anything but GU's or Clif Shots. My rule of thumb for those is one about 15 minutes before I start and one for every 40-45 minutes I'm running. I'm not sure if its a placebo-effect or not, but I think they really help me. And I try to get some protein within 20 minutes of ending a run or intense workout.

Hope this helps. RunnersWorld.com is a great place to check out. They have lots of how-to's and FAQ's. I love to go on there and check it out!

On a good note Alan found my photo albums!!! This may not seem like a big deal to a lot of people but I've been looking for them for almost a year. They are the only pictures I have of Josh and Maddie so you can imagine the stress this has caused me over this long time frame. He was out in the garage going through some Rubbermaid bins and found them in the bottom of one. They were covered up by sleeping bags. I told him that he had just totally made my year!

I don't know about you guys but I keep all of the PMs I send to DVCcruiser that have my weight in them every week. I have them as far back as October 14th of last year. I wrote them all down (with dates) and it was nice to see the pattern. 98 percent of the time I was reporting a loss but there were 3 times were I gained. I'm going to plug these numbers into a spreadsheet and continue to keep track of them.

I'm down .8 this week

Everyone have a great OP day!

 on finding the pictures!!

DH made a graph of my weight loss last year! I think I will get that Baby out and hang it on the Fridge!! It is really motivating!

LTS – Love the frozen smoothies in a bag idea!! Hmmm could I really get so organized?

I have kids traveling out of the country with school trips this year as well. It's a little scary but also a good thing. My DD17 is going to Germany for almost all of July as an exchange student (we had our student at the beginning of this school year) and my DDs who will be 13 and 12 at the time will be going to Ireland in June with their chorus and I get to go as a chaperone! I'm pretty excited about that.

Melinda --- How exciting!! Can’t wait to hear all about it

Today was a mom drama-filled day. She wanted to go out to dinner, but couldn't decide on a place. We'd talk about an option and then we'd look at the menu. She would consider it and then after I looked for something GF, she'd rule it out. To find something GF, I often have to scrutinize the menu. She'd then realize that nothing appealed to her. "I don't want Italian." "Too much fried food." etc., etc. :headache: What made it more annoying is that the problem with being GF and going to a restaurant isn't that there aren't any options. The problem (for me at least) is that it's not worth the cost. You pay for the sauce whether you can eat it or not. One restaurant we considered had a good number of GF options, but they are things that my parents and/or I can make. We prefer to go out to dinner for something different. The other problem is that there are very few restaurants near where we live. Any good options were about 30 minutes away and we couldn't justify the drive. In the end, we had chicken stir fry and rice. My did overdid the garlic, but otherwise it was fine and much healthier than going out for dinner would have likely been.

A little while ago mom started in with how I don't exercise. It is so difficult to go to the gym over the weekend because I feel like I have to be at her side. I try to go as often as possible during the week, but it's hard to go when I'm sick to my stomach. I still didn't feel well enough to go yesterday, so I haven't went since Wednesday. To answer the QOTD, I have decided to write out my exercise plan for the week. I am also going to do some meal planning for breakfasts and lunches. Dinners are more up in the air as my parents are involved, but I'm slated to do the grocery shopping on Monday so I will have some say in dinners for the week.

Hope that everyone has a great, OP Sunday! :goodvibes

I'll be shooting for an OP Sunday because I did *not* have an OP Saturday! But that was expected, and I kind of gave myself license to cut loose, especially with a big loss in the books this week.

Today was DD5's birthday party at the big bouncy house with all her buddies. It was an early party, so I just had a couple of bananas for breakfast and then had one slice of pizza (cheese, Domino's) and one itty bitty piece of cake at the party. I was saving it all for dinner, which we did at our favorite restaurant with my dad and my MIL. I ate and ate and ate. And then I had a piece of my homemade birthday cake when we got home.

And now I'm done. I'm calling it right here, and I'll be back OP tomorrow, even though I know I can't work out until the evening. DD5 has another party tomorrow (for friends also turning 5), but I'm going to have an early dinner of a Subway sandwich so I'm not tempted by the pizza at that party.

I'm just glad my WW weigh-in isn't until Tuesday! A couple of good solid OP days will hopefully let me maintain this week even after today...

And DD5 is now 5! She's one very happy, and very tired, little girl. From Valentine's Day on Tuesday to her actual birthday on Thursday to her big party today, she's been going full-on for days. If I thought she'd actually sleep in tomorrow, I might skip church, but I know she and DD7 will be up just as early as usual, so off we go. Then we're taking them to see "The Secret Life of Arietty," which I'm just as psyched to see as they are. Then we'll have a little down time before I take her to the other party. What a weekend...

XO

Sounds like a wonderful weekend! Happy Birthday and as we say in our family -- now she is a whole handful!!! :thumbsup2

Hi Nancy!! Great Job on the weight loss!! Such dedication!! AND A great question on the hydration/fueling!! Looks like you got some good answers already!

Can I answer this even though I am thread crashing?;)

I carry water if the temps are over 65 (no matter the distance) or if the distance is over 4 miles no matter the temps.

I carry energy (clif bloks, etc) for distances over 6 miles.

A good practice is to weigh yourself before and after to see how much fluid you are losing.

Here is an article on hydration:
http://www.hartfordmarathon.com/Assets/Training+Program/ProperHydrationForDistanceRunning.pdf

I also take endurolytes for distances over 6 miles or if the temps are above 80. I have found this is the best way to keep my electrolyes in balance--and thus avoid nausea at the end of runs. I am all about avoiding nausea!:thumbsup2

Hope this helps!

Hi Rose!!! Thanks for popping in!! You always have such great advice.

Hi! I don't have any advice about the water intake, I wanted to say good job on your weight loss! We started out about the same and i would like to be 142 by the time of my trip which is 5/12. That's 14 more pounds for me which is a little over a pound a week. PS: reading your post inspired me to go get on the treadmill, so that's what I'm going to go do. I was going to try and take a nap since DD is napping, but I'd probably lay there and not be able to fall asleep!

That is what I LOVE about this thread --- motivation from someone so far away --- yet the support and help is so near!!! :woohoo:

Hey Yanni!! It is comeback week for me so we can get back on this train!!!!

:cheer2:For your girls!!!!:goodvibes

I had a BUSY weekend. Today we went out to eat with my inlaws. I made myself put half my meal in a go box. We did the Japanese where they cook at the table and for once I did not feel Stuffed! So although I feel the salt, I am counting this as a win. Gonna get Jim to go to the Gym with me in a little bit I think. Maybe we will just do a Jillian Michaels DVD.

Happy Healthy Week!!!!:cheer2:

I'm not one yet, but I'm going to try and become one this spring! So I'm paying close attention.... :)

So glad for a three-day weekend - today was so busy! We went to church, then out to lunch (I beat the mall food court and had seaweed salad and a salmon roll, yum), then to see "The Secret World of Arietty," which was great. Then we went to Barnes & Noble, then gassed up the car (holy (*^@# those prices are getting high!), and then I picked up a Subway 6" to eat before taking DD5 to a birthday party so I wouldn't be tempted by the pizza and cake. We are all now collapsed. Tomorrow the kiddos can go to their school for a play day, and DH and I are planning on lunch with friends and maybe a movie.

I'm up this week. My eating derailed so completely it wsan't funny. I'm back on tomorrow though!

omg i think may life may be almost resembly some sort of normal...i have just had a very time-consuming houseguest for the past two weeks and i took her to the airport today....looking forward to rejoining here!!

Another week of maintaining... even with me getting back into a running schedule.

Last Tuesday I put in 4 miles, Thursday another 2.25 miles. Saturday I put in another 4.55 miles, but that was after Friday's weigh-in.

Hopefully in the next couple of weeks it'll warm up enough that I can start running outside again! It seems that anything below 50 degrees and my lungs just burn for days!

I'm looking at picking up a beginners yoga DVD to see if I can work more on getting my muscles to loosen up My neck and shoulder have been bothering me a lot again recently and I know it's because I'm all tensed up all the time. Doctor has recommended it, so I don't have to keep going back on muscle relaxers.

I picked up a resistance band workout book off of the discount pile at the bookstore. I'm looking at it to make up a work out schedule. I'm going to order a new set of resistance bands and I'll get this worked into my running schedule.

Tried the skateboard today and I'm starting to remember how. Just messed around in my deceased neighbor's driveway. It's harder than I remember! And good exercise. I can't believe I would fly around like I used to--no fear...:scared1:
It was fun though-- I'll practice just a little at a time.

Morning Mickeys!

Yesterday was terrible. I feel like I handled everything as well as I could have and am not going to beat myself up over it. I did stress eat, but the damage could have been worse, and I am only up .4 since Friday's weigh-in. I think some of it is from the salt, so I am drinking plenty of water today. I am planning to get to the gym too. I was planning to do run/walk intervals, but I think I'll stick to the recumbent bike. I may also try the elliptical.

I didn't see a QOTD, and I have a great idea for one, so I thought I'd post it.

QOTD for Monday, 2/20: Today is the day we observe President's Day. Who is someone famous that inspires you? You don't have to tell us why. (This cannot get political.)

I have a couple. I love Sandra Day O'Connor. I also like Queen Elizabeth II. Hungry Girl is frequently inspiring me to try something new to eat. :)

Hi Team! Thought I would pop in and write my thoughts down instead of going to the vending machine! I am bored at work. I do not want to look at these financial ratios. It hurts my head! I am so hungry I could knaw a finger off! I've already eaten my morning snack of grapes and am patiently waiting for noon to eat my lunch. It's chicken, spaghetti, and grape tomatoes. I found the recipe on skinnytaste.com. Love that website! Didn't wake up early enough to workout so I'm going to try for a couple miles on the treadmill tonight. I hate cutting into DD's quality time in the evenings that's why I try to get it over with at 4:30 in the morning! Well 30-45 minutes won't be a big deal and she and Daddy can spend some quality time together! Sometimes she doesn't mind being in the playpen next to me on the treadmill playing with her toys other times she tries to escape and it's a distraction so I prefer to not have her around while I'm treadmilling. Besides then I can get lost in my Disney music with an occasional Katy Perry or Lady Gaga thrown in there! Thanks for letting me ramble and distract my vending machine attack, going to try and get down to business on these ratios before lunch.

Hi all,

Just tried a new recipe from allrecipes.com . It was a Spicy Garlic Chicken dish. We had it with pad thai and spicy thai noodles that I had left from lunch. Ash wanted to try pad thai so I went and got some for us for lunch and dinner.

Not really getting anything accomplished today. I watched Downton Abbey twice! I made some brownies. I'm in the middle of doing laundry too.

Going to try and catch up on some shows from last night that we missed due to everything else we were watching. Izzie has an all day playdate tomorrow and Ash is going with me to work. The tomorrow night Ash is going to our church's Shrove Tuesday pancake supper and I have to work. We are taking the dog back to her house in the morning before I go to work. We will go back and see her after the pancake supper.

Glad that Lent is starting this week as that will hopefully get me to focus again. I am going to only drink on weekends, exercise for at least 20 minutes everyday, 1 or fewer sodas a day, and hope to lose 10 pounds.

I hear the dog barking so I had better go check on her and Ash.

TTFN :tigger:

Good afternoon TEAM MICKEY! ::MickeyMo

Is anyone else doing the Princess besides Worfiedoodles? And Rose&Mike? princess:

Congrats on your workout! That is great! Keep it up!

Hi Melinda! Always enjoy your positive posts! :thumbsup2

i had a nice woosh on the scale this week after a crummy week or so of weighing in. we are going to WDW on 5/19 and i would really like to be 145 when we get there. 145 puts me back in the "normal" area of bmi. i have 7-8 lbs to lose to get there. i started the challenge at 162.5 so i'm happily plugging along.

Woo hoo for the whoosh! :woohoo: I have no doubt that you will be at your goal before your WDW trip.

One of the things I learned at running school last summer from Jeff Galloway is that you are always going to get a little dehydrated when you are doing long runs so you want to minimize those effects. He recommends paying attention to hydration the days before and after long runs as much as you do on your run. He really advocates sports drinks but I have a hard time with those. Here is a link to a little article in one of his newsletters about it. http://www.jeffgalloway.com/resources/news_archives/july05.html

I personally have a hard time balancing hydration, hunger and the dreaded runners tummy. Of the three I can manage thirst and hunger much easier than runners tummy. I will usually start drinking at mile 3 and every two miles after that -- it's easy on the indoor track. Just a bit. I will alternate with Clif Bloks, sometimes just half of one as well. I have a little 6 oz bottle that I can add to my iFitness belt that fits perfectly in the pocket of my WISH sparkleskirt. You might look at something like that. What worked for you for the Princess may not for the marathon. It's a process to figure out what works for sure. ::yes::

Can I answer this even though I am thread crashing?;)

I'm just so glad I still managed a .5 loss this week! I was so totally not OP with V-Day and stress eating. But yesterday was better and today I'm OP so far...so good.

Woo hoo for a fresh start! :woohoo:

Hello all! I've been a little MIA lately. I have sent in my weigh-ins...not that anything has happened there. A steady 0 pound loss two weeks in a row. Oh well, at least it wasn't a gain.

Wowza! :worship: I cannot imagine sharing my weight in such detail with my DH.

I'm not one yet, but I'm going to try and become one this spring! So I'm paying close attention.... :)

Congratulations on your goal to become a runner! :thumbsup2 I never ever thought I would be a runner but I am one and didn't start until I was 49. Here is a link to Jeff Galloway's conditioning program that you might want to check out. http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/condition.html You really learn a lot about yourself through the process and will discover that you are capable of so much more than you ever gave yourself credit for! ::yes::

Way to get back on track! :thumbsup2

Another week of maintaining... even with me getting back into a running schedule.

It usually takes a few days for the scale to get with the program after running. You can do it! :thumbsup2

Be careful! :flower3: Falling is no fun at all.

CC, sorry for all the stress lately.

fitgirl36, way to come on here to avoid the snack attack! :thumbsup2

I was a maintain last week, too, but I'm happy to report that I have been cleared by my PT for a bit of activity so I hope that the scale will start cooperating again soon.

Have a great day all! (Pretend there is a happy face smilie here -- alas I have reached my smilie limit).

This week’s group loss = 18.1 pounds!
Average percentage of weight lost 0.30 %
Total group weight loss so far 327.8 pounds!

AWESOME!

Retention Rate (compared to the 72 participants we had sign up for our start week on January 1st)
43% (this includes the Losers, Maintainers and Excused people!). Let's keep sending those weights people!

Before the weekly superstar list comes the disclaimer. I am human and I make mistakes. If you have any questions please contact me. For your reference this is the magic percentage of weight lost formula - weight loss for the week divided by weight for last week times 100, that gives us the percentage. Now let me test that with my numbers for week 1, click, click, click goes the calculator. Yes, that agrees with the percentage on the magic spreadsheet. (btw if its been more than 1 week between weigh-ins, then the % loss is divided by the number of weeks, to keep everybody on the same basis)

Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of week 7?

Thanks to ohMom-Molli for these clippies. They were used for a previous BL but we can recycle. Don't they look great!

NOW FOR THOSE OF US WHO SET A GOAL FOR THE CHALLENGE!!!

NOTE: This list includes participants who have reported in within the last 3 weeks, once someone misses 3 weigh-ins they are dropped from this report.

How this works: You set your goal for what you want to lose in the challenge. Then I calculate your weight loss in the challenge divided by your goal to get a % to goal.

Anybody can change their goal at anytime (or add a goal) – all you have to do is send me a PM.

Since the goals are an individual thing, the list is just in alphabetical order to make it easier for everybody to find their own name. If there are any questions or suggestions please let me know.

We have done 7 out of 21 weeks, so the challenge is 33% complete.
