Good morning
TEAM MICKEY!
Congratulations to all our superstars, and especially to our Biggest Loser,
myweegirls!

Not only is Liz our BL this week but she has also met more than 77% of the goal that she created for herself. This is fabulous!
And a big congratulations to all of you who are sticking with this challenge through thick and thin, no matter what is going on in your lives and committing to this healthy lifestyle.
Jess, good job getting back on plan and good luck with the vegan lifestyle change. And congrats on being 10 pounds down in the past year.
I am off track! Even coaching, I oate terrible today.
So I am posting the
TUESDAY QOTD for selfish reasons and hope it helps someone else as well...
WHAT Keeps you motivated?
Thanks for coaching this week,
Nancy!
Motivation is one of those things that changes as this process goes along. sparkpeople.com has a lot of articles and information about motivation. Short term motivators like losing weight for a trip or fear of being swept in a race work for a little while but I think true, lasting success comes when your motivation is for
you being as healthy and strong as you can be.
sparkpeople.com has a lot of articles and information about motivation. Here is a link to a little quiz called "Are you ready to change your lifestyle?"
http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/assessment_questions.asp?quizid=61 I've taken this quiz several times but this is the first time it's told me that I am actually living a healthy lifestyle instead of on my way.
Hope your busy day passes quickly,
Nancy!
Thanks! I'm feeling pretty good about trying it out. I decided to wait until spring because I just hate the cold weather, and I know I'd never stick with a program while it's cold out. I might be able to keep one up, but I don't trust myself to start until it gets warmer outside! I downloaded a C25K app for my phone to get me started, and I liked the link you sent a lot, too. These really seem to make sense for those starting out. I want to start with a 5K goal, then 10K, then half marathon if I really get crazy.
So what are all these Clif Shots and things? At what point when you're running does it make sense to bring in something like that to help your run?
Congrats on being the BL this week!
Yes, you need to take it easy when you are starting out so you don't overdo. The C25K is a great program. At first you think that there is no way that you can run that much or again. Later you are amazed at what you can do compared to when you started. It is designed to have you running a 5K in 8 weeks. At some point in the C25K I figured out that I just could not run for long periods of time and switched to John Bingham's plan (
Marathoning for Mortals) then a blend of Galloway and Bingham. Right now I run 15 seconds and walk 35 seconds. I can do that all day. Don't be afraid to switch things around until you figure out what is best for you!
The Clif Bloks and Clif Shots, gels and Gus are different products that you use during longer runs. The shots, gels and gus are like syrup consistency and they have electrolytes and carbohydrates to help replenish what you are losing. They don't have a whole lot of calories because your digestive system shuts down when you are doing long runs and you're not going to benefit from something like a piece of fruit or a sandwich. You might try on before a 5K or a 3 mile run but for anything shorter it's probably not needed.
And, of course, alot of what we talk about with running applies with any activity -- walking, bicycling, swimming. It's important to find an activity that you enjoy. At least the results if not always the doing of it.
Congrats to all the losers and especially our BIGGEST LOSER THIS WEEK:
myweegirls
QOTD: What keeps me motivated? At first it was the next race. And then the next one. And then it became this thing called weight loss. I learned that I need to lose weight to run faster and that is my current motivation. Along with clothes. I love clothes, and have not felt like I could properly express myself with fashion the last 5 or so years. I am really looking forward to the days when I like clothes shopping again. I am at 185 lbs now. I am looking forward to when I lose at least 40 lbs and can truly enjoy clothes shopping again! It is one of my loves!!!

ITA,
Melinda!
I was so happy recently when I got to buy XL shirts instead of plus sized shirts. It does give you a lot more choices.
Speaking of races, when is your next race?

I was supposed to do a 10K in Phoneix on 3/3 but will not be doing that because of my back injury. I can't even sit long enough on the plane to get down there now. I am cleared for up to 15 minutes at a time activity and can do gentle walking and river walking in the pool. My next half is 5/27 here in Coeur d'Alene. My goal is to break below the 4:00 mark -- which is totally doable. Both my coach and my physical therapist assure me that I will not lose as much conditioning as I am afraid I will while I allow myself to recover fully.
Have a great day all!
