Summer fun. Hopefully

Wonderland when they do open will have limited capacity and will require reservations. I will most likely be going as I have a platinum pass. I have always found it to be pretty clean.

I have not had the same positive experience . Mind you it was a couple of years ago but even with paying for their Fast lane we weren’t impressed .. lines for food were crazy and bathroom cleanliness was hit or miss.
That said I hope if it opens you have amazing days !!

Food kiosks at Wonderland are odd. Long lines for places with the worst food, simply because they're strategically located in the high traffic spots.

I'm still trying to find the "best" place to eat there. Sausage on a bun is acceptable, and the drive in is decent, if a bit slow. But I think I need something more than burgers and dogs.

Anyway, I was hoping that Wonderland would be open earlier, but I'll be happy just to go to an amusement park this year. My own fault, really. I've been watching too many YouTube videos from AllEars, and now I've got the amusement park bug.

I can't wait to go to "Au pays des merveilles" in the Laurentians. It's a WDW redux, will help to get us our ride/character m&g fix until our next trip

Otherwise a lot of weekend trips in the province:
Granby Zoo
St-Félicien Zoo
Valcartier water park (we rented a camper van!)

I’m not sure if I’m taking any summer holidays. I’m on vacation now, in the middle of two weeks. This is carried over from last year. Normally we can’t do that, but these were given to us as “front line workers”, so they made an exception. Next weekend I told my husband I want to go eat breakfast on a terrace when they open. We haven’t been inside or outside a restaurant since February 2020. I may just take long weekends to burn some vacation time as I like to take most of my time at Xmas for Florida for a few weeks.
We start our gradual re-opening Friday, aNd I’m happy, but nervous at the same time. I hope it works well.
For excitement I play radio bingo and zoom bingo twice a week lol.

Apparently we (NS) will be hearing about our reopening plan either this week or next. I'll be happy with the Atlantic Bubble at this point. We don't tend to travel very far outside of the Maritimes anyways. It costs way too much to travel within Canada! lol

We were hoping to go up to the Yukon (plan was to do it last August when they opened the border between the Yukon and BC but we ended up travelling around BC). However, they have now announced you can only skip their quarantine if you are fully vaccinated. While dh and I will be by his vacation time in mid August and hopefully our oldest will have gotten her second shot, that still leaves our 10 year old unvaccinated so no Yukon for us :( Looks like maybe Vancouver Island or the Gulf islands for us this summer.

My summer bucket list (contingent on the Atlantic Bubble reopening). We never go too far during the summer anyway because we have so few nice months here in the maritimes that I like to stay close by and take advantage of them!

PEI - We go camping here annually trip to Marco Polo Land, which has so many amazing activities for the kids. It kind of feels Disney-esque. Last year they put in the most amazing splash park and my kids were in heaven. We always do our WDW trip with extended family so this is a nice change of pace with just the 4 of us.

NS - My inlaws live in the valley which is so beautiful, especially in the summer. We haven’t seen them since Thanksgiving (usually we see them once a month) which has been hard on everyone... there will be lots of happy tears when we are finally able to reunite. We’ll probably spend a few days in Halifax as well (IKEA!!!)

NB -This is our home province which we traveled pretty extensively last summer. We are fortunate to have a family cottage a few mins from our house that we spend a lot of time in throughout the summer.

Nfld -Dh lived here as a child and would love to go back to show me around. This might be a great 10 year anniversary trip.... Hmmm....

I find it very odd we can't go to stage 1 until June 14th when we already have 60% of adults vaccinated in Ontario with one dose. I assume that 18+ is considered an adult. I also find it odd that instead of focusing on second doses they are dropping the age for first even further when we know that young people are at basically zero risk and the second dose greatly increases protection for those who are actually vulnerable. That said, with all they have done lately, I think an extremely large group of people is already doing whatever they can get away with without getting fined, which is almost anything other than going into businesses since the businesses are all closed.

I think the reasoning behind June 14 is two fold to let ICU empty a little as opening back to regular life also means more accidents and non Covid related admissions . and it also gives people a little more time for their vaccines to become effective .
As for the younger people getting it vs older people getting 2nd. I hope the supply will be great enough to allow both to start happening but I also think the younger group is spreading more so less spread makes it safer for all of us ..

They also want to monitor and be ready for any surge in case counts over the next couple weeks, after this Victoria Day long weekend. If numbers continue to stay flat or decline then they will probably stick with their June14th reopening.

We have been to Zoos all over, and held a membership to the Toronto Zoo at one point. Last fall we went to the Granby Zoo and were quite impressed! It was so nice to be able to see the animals up close (always have to bring binoculars in Toronto!), so well laid out and organized!

I love Granby zoo. It’s such a must do

We're staying home (hopefully the kids can go camping a bit with the grandparents for a mini vacation), and totally gutting the main floor of the house. Not travelling over the past year has given us time to save/plan for the renovation. Kids have summer courses/co-ops so will be busy with those. Currently we're cleaning up the garage in anticipation of putting a temporary kitchen out there so we have somewhere to cook! 👩‍🍳

Our aspirations are unexpectedly turning out to be much grimmer. We got word last week a very dear close family member has been diagnosed with end-stage metastatic liver cancer. He will be taking no treatment except comfort measures. Right now we are fervently praying that hospitals and hospice facilities will open up to visitors by the time he gets there, and that reasonably sized funeral gatherings will be allowed. All our vacation time will likely be taken up in this way as their home is 500 miles from ours.

I am so sorry for this devastating news. Prayers to him and all of you . Please remember if possible palliative care can be done peacefully and comfortably at home and then he/they won’t be won’t be stuck with restrictive visiting policies.
Again sending my thoughts and prayers

Anyone know when the museums in Ottawa might reopen? Do they follow provincial or federal guidelines?

I am thinking we will be going out west this summer for some family visits and hiking in the Rockies. It seems like they will be "reopening" much faster than we will be in Ontario. I hope this "plan" is a flexible guideline. If vaccinations increase and cases are down, it would be criminal to keep businesses closed during June and July.
