SSR visit - somewhat disappointed.

Thanks TomandRobin for the clarification. And I am an SSR owner and have been for awhile :lovestruc but am new to the board. It's too bad SSR owners are getting harsh treatment.

And the reason I said people are defensive is because there was a previous board that was shut down regarding TOILETS! Not sure you saw it, but the responses were totally unbelievable.

Sorry for hijacking the post. But back to the OP, I'm glad you told us about the change in patio furniture. Something more upscale for us SSR owners.:rotfl: And it sounds more comfortable, too.

SSR owners have been called everyting from ignorant slobs to trailer trash here on these boards.

I just can't wait to get it back to my trailer!

I have to agree with Rob. I use the popcorn man icon when I am reading a thread, kinda like "watching a movie". No offense is intended when I use it.

Personally--I LOVE the popcorn man and have learned in my short tenure here that if he appears then it's probably a really interesting discussion going on in the thread . . . . I did not think the use of it was meant to be offensive at all. :flower3:

I subscribed to the thread that I think you're referring to. It was originally titled something like "SSR is the Value Resort of DVC" (before the OP changed the title) and got quite heated over a very short time span.

There are obviously pros and cons to each resort. It doesn't seem necessary to trash a resort for any reason. Unless it was the quality of service or a maintenance issue, etc. why complain:confused3 You're on vacation at WDW.....be happy:) (and stay someplace else next time)

Totally agree about being happy when at WDW. (I always try to agree with fellow RI'ers.):upsidedow

You threw me off with your Hawaii (dreaming) picture (2 small states on the opposite ends of the spectrum)!!

I'm so glad to hear about the new furniture too! That is one thing that I didn't like about SSR! The BWV had plastic furniture also when we stayed there last. I wonder if they will get new furniture as well, or maybe it is just for us upscale SSR owners!:rotfl:

Whenever I see popcorn:: , I'm reminded of Dory and the sea turtle children when Marlin starts telling the story about Nemo getting lost/stolen- "This is going to be interesting."

This is how I have always looked at the popcorn eater also and would never have thought that it was meant in an offensive way.

SSR is great I have stayed at the GF which at this time is the only 5 star Disney hotel and other then the quick ride to Magic Kingdom I think SSR is right up there. I think there are many resorts that need more restaurants, but with downtown disney just across the water SSR is in a good place.

I have loved this location all the way back to when it was the "Disney Villas",
then "Disney Institute" and now "Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa". Love it,
love it, love it. :thumbsup2

Pleased to read about the new patio furniture :goodvibes
We absolutely loved SSR last December, can`t wait to return.

You have be here awhile to understand the abuse SSR owners get. We seemed to get blamed for every problem there is at Disney.

Can't get a room two weeks out cause of those SSR owners. DDP is ruined now cause of those SSR owners. The carpets are stained and ruined in the BWV halls, cause of the SSR owners. I couldn't get a ADR cause of the SSR owners. Resale prices are falling cause of all those SSR owners.

SSR owners have been called everyting from ignorant slobs to trailer trash here on these boards. It amazes me how "some" look down at and treat SSR owners as a lower class owner. Calling for DVC to limit SSR to just thier resort, so not to mix with the other members at thier "Epcot" resorts.

Its actually been awhile for a good SSR thrashing thread. I actually thought we were beyond that again. I guess not! :confused3

Thanks for this post. I think that this is a very concise, and accurate, look at some of the history on these boards.

Many have said it before and I'll say it again, if you don't like it, don't stay there -- more room for the rest of us. :)

Almost 100!
Does anyone remember the BWV bashing, or the WLV bashing, or the BCV bashing, or the VB bashing . . .

Some folks take all this too personally, it's just a bunch-o-buildings.

What about Richyams infamous posts comparing OKW and BWV.
I really do miss his wit and bon-hommie.

Sometimes this place is just too funny:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Look we didn't say we hated the place, we did like the room.
Some aspects of SSR do make me feel that DVD was cashing in and scrimping, thats all. The POP reference was in regards to the lower level of detail and shallow depth of theme throughout.Allthough now that I think about it maybe it is an exact match for the real place and I'm an uncultured b**b!

It looks like Really Bad Egg got his money's worth outa that teeny bag of popcorn.

In regards to the patio furniture, I seem to remember an announcement that all the resorts would be getting new patio furniture.

As to the effects of one resort nearly doubling the membership, that's a horse of a different color and deserves a thread all it's own.
If Really Bad Egg wants to start one, I'll bring the popcorn!popcorn::

Totally agree about the POP references ..

Also .. would it have cost THAT much more to enclose the interiors walkways of the buildings and lay down some carpet? Its like a motel in that respect ..

The open walkways don't bother me at all. It is the style of the resort like OKW. I enjoy them even more when it keeps my maintenance fees down as the maintenance costs are much less for not having to replace carpeting or use eletricty to keep the hallways cool!

I think that SSR owners have taken a lot of beating, but I pulled up an ancient thread ('03 to be exact) about an OKW GV that turned into a bashing about how OKW was on the same level of the All Star resorts. It got pretty heated on that old thread and I noticed that the OKW owners took it pretty personally. So, its not just SSR owners that have a hard time taking the heat for the problems that exist within DVC.

It seems to me that every resort has been bashed at one time or another.

We would probably stay there again, but do not see this resort as a stellar example of DVC.

Lets hope that AKV will see a return to details and theme that we have come to expect in a DVC resort.

Funy you should say that. When we were in WDW we had NO intention of even looking at or purchasing DVC. We did tour SSR 3 years ago and fell in love with it! It is a beautiful resort. We also thought it was a "top" DVC. We had seen the others - and I will do no bashing here - and they were not to our taste at all. We liked the fact SSR was so new. And details? The buildings are full of details, starting with the beautiful blend of colors and carved bedroom furniture to the positioning of the buildings and water fountains. So here we are, DVC owners after one tour of SSR.
Can't wait to head back in spring.:flower3:

The quiet pool was not quiet due to the "feature" of water streaming from four posts at each corner of the pool, did not quite get what these were supposed to add in regards to the theme of the resort.

I didn't have time to read through this whole thread, so I apologize in advance if I am duplicating thoughts already expressed, but has anyone who is knocking the authenticity of SSR actually been to the Saratoga region of NY? The architectural details and horse racing themes are right on. As for the "water feature", Saratoga has a bunch of standpipes with water spouts all around the old spa areas. The water is supposed to have healing properties, thus the reason for tourists and health fanatics alike flocking there in the early part of the last century. I think the designers did a stellar job in capturing the details of Saratoga. Just my opinion for whatever you think it's worth. :goodvibes

Thanks for your review and insights TiggerFreak.

We just returned from SSR in a 2BR in the Paddock Section. We had a great stay and enjoyed the nuances of the resort.

We've stayed at every DVC property & all of the WDW Resorts, we found SSR to have specific merits as they all do. I'm so glad that we have resort options at WDW.

In fact, we will be at AKLV in 26 days to enjoy that experience again! :thumbsup2
