Spelling Errors!!! *&%^*(&%^&*(%

No, in this case, I doubt it. She has taken the name of a character in a movie. It's just my personal peeve, honestly.

I find it difficult to read emails from my neices and nephews in high school and just out of it. The random capitalizing and unique spelling of words hurts my head.

Suzanne

I know what you mean. I don't even read things ThAt ArE WrITteN tHiS wAy. ACK!!!:headache:

Incorrect spelling doesn't bother me much, (unless every other word is wrong), some of the most intelligent folks I've known couldn't spell their way out of a wet paper bag.

What does bother me is posters that don't know the difference between two, to & too, their, there & they're,

And the BIGGIE is: "I could care less" What the heck does THAT mean???

I don't like them in my own posts, and will edit if I notice one, but I could care less if someone else has spelling or grammar errors.

Thank You!

Not for nothing folks, but this is an internet board. Nothing life shattering here. If you let things like spelling etc bother you - And to the point where you must call someone on it, or feel you want to call someone on it then perhaps you need to lighten up!

I will guarantee that there are spelling error's in many of my posts. No time to sit and spell check here. However It would be interesting if someone pm'd me about it.

Have to say, though, that I usually have to go lie down when I see someone say "It's a mute point" instead of "It's a moot point." That's always been my pettest pet peeve, and I can't give it up now!!!!

I guess we all have our pet peeves. Two of mine have been mentioned--"alot" and "I could care less". The funny thing is that they are pet peeves of mine because they were pet peeves of a high school English teacher (and I'm no spring chick, so this has stayed with me awhile) and they have stuck with me.

AS far as using "to" for too, etc, I know that I occasionally have a typo where I write the wrong one. I most certainly know the correct usage of those words, so I assume that other people do, too.

I try to over look those things in general (would never speak up) because I figure that someone has either made an honest mistake or is doing the best they can. I sure would not want someone correcting me if and when I make a mistake.

I'm prolly gonna get flamed for this, but hear goze:

I've got a degree in English and I'm working on my masters in secondary ed in English. Yes, I'll be an English teacher. I'm a total spelling GEEK and can spell just about any "normal" word you throw at me. I used to believe that proper grammar and spelling was a sign of intelligence, but boy was I ever wrong!

My DH is an absolutely brilliant man (gifted IQ), but he can't spell worth a hill of beans. My DS (high IQ) has learning disabilities and can't spell. My DD, not sure if she has LD or not, but she's going through the same struggles! Needless to say, I quickly changed my attitude towards poor spellers.

Oh, and to top that, I was diagnosed with an LD in math (dyscalculia) and I can't get above a 6th grade math level. Can't even balance a checkbook, but I have a relatively high IQ and am excelling in graduate school.

So anyway, my point to all this is (yes there's a point), what irritates me more than poor spelling and grammar in posts (and yes, I definitely notice and cringe at it) are all the language police on the boards! I hate it when people will tear apart a post and correct someone's spelling and grammar just because that person is saying something they don't agree with. I also hate when people whip out the good ol' dictionary.com and post definitions to words. Drives me nuts! Isn't it wonderful that we have access to such intellectually superior posters?

Although I do have to admit, I think it's absolutely gut-bustingly hilarious when one of the "intellectually superior" posters corrects someone with their own misspellings and improper grammar! :rotfl2:

Because the controller reports to me, I see the word "Due" all day. My most common error (that I generally catch) is a sentence like "I due that to. Don't you just hate it when that happens). That is my personal pet peeve. Don't mind it if you due it hate it when I due.

It used to bother me until I was blessed with a beautiful son that has dyslexia and dysgraphia. I am now more tolerant of others.

I'd rather a bunch of misspelled words than read a post written by someone who doesn't use paragraphs.

I can handle typo's because I do it all the time - but if it gets too hard to read or there is no punctuation and paragraphs I click out of the thread.

And I Can't Handle Reading Any Threads In Which The Poster Writes All Their Sentences Like This. Why Would You Do This? It's Hard To Do And Slows Me Down Actually! I Wonder If There Is A Reason Why Some Posters Type Like This - It's Definitely Difficult To Do.

Some people keep the caps lock on the comupter for work reasons. Some sites (I think Dis is one of them) has programs inplace that is you type with caps, will change it to the 1st word caps, some not.

HERE LETS TRY IT AND SEE WHAT IT DOES.

edited to add, I guess Dis isn't one one them.
