Shooting at Va Tech

Just found out my nephew, a freshman at Va Tech, lost 2 friends in the shooting. Please keep everyone in your prayers- students, victims, faculty, staff, all the responders, family, friends, and the shooter and his family.

My thoughts are with you, your nephew, and his friends and family.

So far, I have been lucky, all those I know are okay... but my heart breaks for those who were not so lucky.

DD18 just got home from school and her best friend's sister is a VT student. She said her friend's sister was locked down in her English classroom from 8:00 this morning. I don't know what time they let them leave. I'm so relieved she's ok though.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of those killed or wounded at Tech today. I am not an official Hokie parent yet, but DD will be going to school there in the fall, so this tragedy has hit our household very hard today.

It is not only a sad day in Virginia Tech history, but a sad, sad day in US history.

There are no words that I know that will help your nephew. I will keep him in my prayers along with all of those at VT.

Every society has it's violent factions, guns or not, America or not. But can we please just focus on the loss of life and the tragedy of it all before we start talking about gun control???

I'm very, very sorry for your nephew's loss, and thankful that he is alright.

That is my question too. Although, I wonder if perhaps some of the reports are not completely accurate, since there was so much confusion. We'll have to wait until more formal statements come out, I guess.

You are right, fan. I can only imagine the horror and confusion that was going on that morning. I should not been so quick to blame someone. I hope it was all related to the inaccuracies and hysteria going on.

As I said, I was on the University of Iowa campus when a similar, but thankfully smaller scale incident was going on, but the feelings of sheer terror, confusion, shock, helplessness and devastating loss are awful.

I agree with the others. I'm not a huge fan of guns myself but this isn't the time or the place.

My wife just called, and mentioned that our next door neighbor has a son who is a freshman at the school ( I wasn't aware of that, the family isn't particulalrly close to us or others in our neighborhood).

She said "the positive news is I don't see a lot of cars or traffic into their home." I told her while that's good, it's a little early to assume anything...since the families of the victims are still being contacted.
