Shooting at Va Tech

It is a sad SAD day in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

agnes!

I'm still floored over this. DD and DD's BF are still calling all their friends, checking on everyone. So far they are okay... DD is very upset and I'm even more upset to be 8 hours away from her. :sad1:

:grouphug: to you and your DD. I pray that she is able to contact everyone.

My sister-in-law attends VT. I spoke to her on the phone earlier. Needless to say, she's very upset with the situation. She was on campus when the shootings started, and immediately left for her apartment. She's been unsuccessful in getting in touch with most of her friends, some of which were in one of the areas where students were killed.

I'm sickened by this whole situation. :sad1:

Robin, I'm glad you're Sister-inlaw is okay.

My heart goes out to her and everyone else waiting to hear news from their friends and loved ones. :grouphug:

Our thoughts & prayers go out to ALL the families affected by this HORRIBLE tragedy!

The death toll numbers are rising :sad1:

So sad in the history of Tech!:scared1:

God be with all the Hokie Families

Ofcourse it's all over the TV here, how awful.

Such a tragedy. Our kids aren't safe anywhere, not even at college. Prayers go out to all involved. It'll be a long time before we heal from this.

AP is now reporting that 31 people are dead, and you can usually trust their numbers. So it looks like this is now not only the worst school shooting in American history, but the worst mass shooting ever as well.

Tybug, my hear goes out to you, your DD and her friend. :grouphug:
I'm glad they're okay.

Thank goodness she's all right, hopefully her friends will be too. :grouphug:

I'm at a loss for words. All I can say is my thoughts & prayers are with the community there at VT.

My God, how horrible! I just left my campus a little while ago and everyone in the building where my classes were was riveted to the plasma TVs they have installed on the walls there; there was complete silence in the building as word filtered through what had happened.

My prayers are with everyone at VA Tech and its extended family.

I hear you. It really challenges our traditional ideas on the safety of our kids - who really are just kids to most of us. Makes me want to keep my kids in a bubble (apparently it needs to be bullet-proof) for the rest of their lives.

However, I did read somewhere today that the yearly average number of homicides on college campuses nationwide hovers at around 20.

As I watch this unfold holding back tears I am also so MAD that this happened. Why, why would someone want to do this?

what an awful situation...I read the shooter killed himself. Was he a student as well?

Sky News in the U.K. has some new info on the shooter, suggesting this was related to a relationship issue and that he clearly prepared in advance on mass murder:

"Witnessess said he was heavily armed and entered the college looking for his girlfriend. One said he had an "ungoldly" amount of ammunition on him. He reportedly lined up students and opened fire at them."

OMG I just found out. How can this happen 46 shot 29 confirmed dead. What did that ******* use to murder those innocents.

My heart is with all the students and their family members at the campus. This is so horrible.

My husband is an alumni of Virginia Tech. This is a nightmare.
