Why do so many of these shootings seem to happen on Mondays?

They said there was a shooting earlier this year at the same school. Is that true? I hope they can do something to make the campus more safe.

There was an escaped felon earlier in the year that hid in the woods by campus. I think he had shot/killed a guard at the hospital... don't quote me on that one, I'm too lazy to google it!...

Tybug, I'm really glad your DD is fine. All of us here in my office have younger kids, but just were talking about how we would be freaking out if we had kids up there.

The shooting in August was a crazy person from who escaped from jail by killing a hospital security guard. I'm sure no one expected it to happen again. Who knows what the story behind this is??

Same here. My son is visiting his GF this weekend. Was going to take her to class then take off. They are locked in and are in the dorm next to AJ. Her roomate is lockdown at the enginerring academic building, where another or one of the shootings took place.

I had heard they are doing a news conference at noon

It's hard to believe this is happening.

I had read there were two bomb threats in the past couple of weeks or so. I also read that they have one person in custody.

I'm glad everyone's loved ones are safe.

Isn't it beyond sad that we have to worry about our kids and gunfire at school?

I imagine that college campuses are very hard to secure like we do at our elementary and secondary schools.

They are showing video now on CNN that is just frightening. I'm sure anyone that was close to this experienced some sort of traumatic feelings.

I can't imagine witnessing something like this at school or the workplace.

The local news just reported the Montgomery Co hospital is treating 17 people related to the shooting, but not all injuries are from gun shots. I guess some people got hurt trying to get away. I think a couple jumped out of windows! They have 3 hospitals on alert. One is there in Blacksburg, but the others are about 20 minutes (at least) away.

CNN.com is still reporting 1 dead and 17 injured.

One person was killed and several were wounded in two shootings on the Virginia Tech university campus in Blacksburg on Monday, The Associated Press and the university reported.

A hospital spokeswoman told AP that 17 Virginia Tech students were being treated for gunshot wounds and other injuries.

Sharon Honaker at the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center told CNN that four patients had been transported there, one in critical condition.

2 of the injuries are said to be from a male and female who jumped from the top floor of a building.

The report also says that you can access VT's campus webcam, but doesn't say how.

The local police are saying during the news conference they just had that 20 people are dead.....they just said 22 now are dead.

They also said the shooter was dead.

OMG. I just turned on the TV and saw this. All stations are reporting at least 20 dead. The news conference was just on and it seems like everyone is a bit overwhelmed by the sequence of events.

What kind of person does something like this?

My prayers are with all that have kids and family members either going to school there or working there.

I am watching Eyewitness News, Channel 7 in NYC. They just reported 21 students were killed.
