Hi...we just got back today from a mini vaca in Mystic CT. It's on your way to NYC from Boston. Also, we did a quick trip for 1 evening to Providence RI to see the waterfire. You can google providence waterfire to see if it's taking place while on your way to NYC.

I saw there is a Marriott across the street. Would it be worth stopping?

Hello all! We will traveling with you on the Magic! We are super excited, we have done Disney many times but this is our first cruise! It will be me and my hubby (30 something's) and our DD6 Bella and DD4 Lily. It is a surprise for them, they don't know we are going! I would like to join the FE group if we still can. We are doing 2nd dining and have Palo ressies on the first night, since that was all that was available. I also requested to join the FB group!

Good morning fellow cruisers!:goodvibes
Just booked this cruise yesterday. It will be DH & I and Dh mom(87) and my mom(85). Our 6th Disney Cruise, but first on the Magic, DH Mom's 2nd cruise, my Mom's first cruise ever. I booked VGT, but DH and Moms think we are OGT, so that will be a surprise for them all. This "short" booking is a first for us. We are usually booked a year or more in advance.

2girlsmommy: You must have gotten the last of the Palo ressies, at about 2pm there were none available. If we decide to do Palo, we'll just book onboard. They always keep a fair amount of ressies for booking on embarkation day.

Any one else driving to port? I've never driven to NYC, but have pretty good directions. Just unsure of the layout of the cruise terminal itself, and their parking facility. OH well, I guess we'll learn as we go.
We were able to get 11:30-12:00 boarding time

Anyway, glad to be joining you all.:cheer2:

we are going to have to meet since we'll be in the Mediterrean together too!!!!

Finally the IGT category popped up for this cruise, so I jumped on it and booked!
I'll be travelling solo on this cruise and am looking forward to seeing a bit of Canada that I haven't yet visited. I'll be taking Amtrak down, but trying to decide whether to arrive the morning of the cruise or the day before (and take advantage of catching a show or two). After the cruise, I'll be flying down to MCO so I can board the Fantasy the following day. Any other pseudo-B2B'ers here?

Susann just told me we want to participate in the FE as well. Not sure exactly how this works, but we have two cabins (2635 & 2637). myself/Susann/DS(18)/DS(10)/DD(6)/DS(5). Do you know about the Facebook group as well? Seems like we may have two groups going at once on different forums. We are getting really excited about escaping from the real world for a few days.

I will check Facebook tonight. I am not a big Facebooker, though I am a member of the Facebook group as well. I am unfortunately at work today, and they block us from accessing Facebook from here. I have added u to the list below.

Hi everyone! My husband and I just booked this cruise this week (thanks to the military discount) and we are so excited! We are big Disney fans and have done the parks many times but never DCL. I have never even been on a cruise (dh spent 20 years with the Navy on lots of "cruises" but none like this lol)! We are leaving the kids (12 and 9) at home for this one, another reason to be excited! We are taking them on the Dream in March 2013 for their first cruise.

A little about us: We are in our early 40's, I'm a registered nurse and dh is Richard (goes by Dick). He retired from the Navy a few years ago and graduates from college late this month and will be a paramedic. He is from upstate NY and I'm from TN. We live in North Carolina.

I hope it's not too late to join the fun! I have seen some people mention a FB page?? I'll try to find that and send a request to join. We will be in cabin #7612.

Palo was already sold out (sad!) and we are still researching excursions...

Weclome aboard Barb. I am a life long NYer. Granted I dont live in Manhattan, but I have worked here for nearly 20 years.

Let me try to make it simple for you. Much of manhattan is a grid.

AVENUES
Avenues run north south and are generally numbered from first avenue in on the east side to twelfth avenue on the west side. There are some non numbered north south avenues that are not part of the numbering scheme (Park Avenue and Broadway being two biggies) and some avenues that go by names but replaced a numbered street (Madison Ave is really 4th Ave and Avenue of the Americas is really 6th Ave).

STREETS
Run east - west starting with 1st St to the south and well into the 100s in the north. The walking distance from one street to the next is much shorter then from one avenue to another. The above streets and avenue system only works when you are north of Greenwich Village. Once you go below Greenwich Village, named and odd shaped streets prevail. Neighborhoods like Little Italy, Chinatown, Soho, the Wall St / Ground Zero area are all outside the grid system.

Penn Station, Times Sq / Theatre District and the Cruise Terminal are all in the grid. Penn Station is at 34th St & 7th Ave. The cruise terminal is at 55th St and 12th Ave. As a generality, you are sort of outside the tourist / hotel zone when you are beyond 8th Ave(higher than 8th Ave). I would also say that anything in the 40s or 50s (streets) would fall in the typical tourist / hotel zone (times sq / theatre district). So I would stay in 5th-8th Ave in the 40s-50s.

As for what to do in one day... that is a tough call. Personally, I would try to visit the Statue of Liberty (even if just passing by on a boat). If you want to see a Bway show, I would just but half price tickets on the day of show from TKTS which is located at 47th St and 7th Av. You may want to hang for a bit in Times Sq (at nite). Museums are an option esp if the weather is bad. Walk the Brooklyn Bridge. Empire State Bldg. Lots to consider. Try to do some on Fri nite if you are not too tired.

Lots to do... not enough time. Enjoy!

we will be closing the FE list to newbies in one week (July 15). If we get requests to join the FE after then... I will add you to the list as a "provisional member". "Provisional members" may not get a gift from everyone as some folks are pre-ordering items and they will only be ordering for the number of folks that are on the list on July 15. I hope everyone understands.

Also, since I expect this cruise to hardly be full, I suspect many of us will be offered room upgrades at when we check-in. Unless they offer me a Cat 1 at a steal, I plan to stay in room 6120 (since we have a sentimental attachment to that particular stateroom). If you change rooms, please note the room change on the white board on my stateroom door, and I will communicate the change to the other FE participants.
