Final report! - Cant believe I booked Super Bowl weekend -

I scored a Topolinos! So I will take the Skyliner over to RIV in April and then bus to MK from there. Since we are gonna take it slow in April might as well do DVC research too!
Hooray, perfect for a take it slow trip. I’ve never done it (and there’s a chance it doesn’t exist anymore?) but RIV used to have a scavenger hunt where you wandered around the hotel looking for Pascal and I think there was a token prize if you complete it.
Back in May I did take monorail from MK over to Epcot to cut through to Skyliner for HS. Um yeah that walk gate to gate in Epcot is FAR.
“cut through” implies a few minute walk, I suspect it’s at least a mile from exiting the monorail, looping down and around through security and traversing the park to the Skyliner, but I haven’t measured it. We often plan our Epcot days (and LL) to avoid unnecessarily crisscrossing between Germany-Japan and the front of the park. They really need more boat service across the lake during the day! Honestly, they could sell me LLSP if there was a predictable time table!
OMG, is that steak floating in hollandaise?

Just added up my DVC savings on purchases this last tip. $98! Yes it's coming off my break even spreadsheet!

Another funny drunken story. I had a photo of a bag of Lays chips from Contempo Cafe in my phone. I noticed it and asked my husband, why did I take a photo of these chips. He said I was shocked by the price and that they were the same chips from the DVC lounge and that I wanted to document the price so I could deduct that from my spreadsheet 😂 Im not going to do that but at the time I thought I should.

Long read but I think it’s worth it!

So on Monday, we did not have a spectacular day at Epcot. It was the end of the night and with our special diet, it’s hard to eat during normal hours, but eating during extended evening hours is impossible. We left before 11 so we didn’t go to bed hungry. Being hungry at the end of a not so great day sucks.

I was scrambling to find something to eat before everything closed. I didn’t think we would make it to CR by 11, But I noticed that Grand Floridian had a burger that we could eat, and my son was excited by that, so I ordered it hopped on the monorail and made my way over to VGF. We stepped off the monorail at 10:56 PM. I heard a random firework go off and I was like hmmm.

We couldn’t find Gasparillas. We were a bit frantic because they were about to close at 11, my husband asked a custodial lady where it was at. She was beyond nice. She walked us all the way over there to make sure that we found it.

We got there right at 11pm and suddenly fireworks start going off at MK! It wasn’t the same show we had seen 2 days prior. Mickeys voice came on over the speakers and I felt so happy. And suddenly so relaxed. We loved the show and the music. Even on the not so great days at Disney somehow a little magic comes our way. It was the perfect ending to our night and I am so happy we stopped at VGF!

Now for the funniest best part of this story..

If you follow me on the boards you may have seen me say that VGF really just wasn’t for me when I visited back in May. Visiting when it’s not as hot as the sun outside made me view things differently. I told my husband I don’t feel so out of place here today because I’m not hot and sweaty. It doesn’t feel too fancy for us. It feels clean and deluxe. We walked past a mannequin with clothes and he said “I’d have to wear a $200 shirt to fit in here, like that guy”. I said no I think we would fit in here. He still says no. Just then we turned the corner and there’s a lady wearing basically the same outfit that I am, same exact uncommon jacket. We both look at each other and she says “we have great taste, I have those ears too”! So the universe officially squished that narrative that we don’t fit in!

My husband took the liberty of buying a small cake from the to-go case. This cupcake was beautiful, but I did not have high hopes for it because I have eaten vegan desserts and cakes many places within both coasts of Disney and they just do not do vegan desserts well. Just a couple nights prior I had a vegan cupcake at Chef Mickey’s and it was not good. So I jokingly said “if I take a bite of this cake and it tastes amazing that’s a sign that we should own here” I say that jokingly, because I would have bet stacks of money that this cake would not be good. Guys… this little cake was amazing. SO. SO. GOOD. I had to go to google to be sure it was vegan even though the label said plant based.

I had taken the cake back to CR and we ate at one of the little tables cause I didn’t want to wake up my grand daughter going back to the room so late and eating. So we sat at the table at CR and we just couldn’t stop talking about this little cake and I’m like is this how life is? Money does get you the finer things in life. Haha!! Clearly Disney knows how to make a good vegan cake but they only give it to Grand Floridian, how is that possible? Why are all of the other desserts so terrible and this one so amazing???

We rode Tower of Terror 3 times.

We rode Guardians 2 times.

We rode Avatar 2 times.

We rode Everest 2 times.

But this little stop off at VGF was the highlight of my trip!

PS the burger was very good too.
We love VGF because it reminds us of Main Street! We’ve noticed there are lots of east coast/southern preppy people who seem to dress in a way that is very foreign on the west coast. In tech areas on the west coast it’s hard to tell who has money because most people are casual all the time. I just don’t let the different styles of clothes make me feel any sort of way because, at the end of the day, it is still a theme park hotel lol.

Im so looking forward to going back in April and seeing if I like it just as much.

We are West Coast preppy people but spend most of our time at Disney parks in matching cheesy Disney merch…maybe it’s because I was raised in the expensive parts of California (where typically the person in the restaurant/meeting who looks most likely to be homeless is actually most likely to be insanely rich), but I have never once felt out of place at VGF in jeans and a Mickey tee, though we do clean up for V&A’s (and Monsieur Paul).

Haha I chuckled out loud because this is so spot on!

I have done it many times. It’s certainly not a mile but it is a hike.
