Sept. 7, 2012 - Magic NYC - Canada

Christa, I have always read that your liquid beverages should be carried on, not checked in your bags. Tammy
We have brought wine/champagne and beer with us. We usually carry the bottle with us and the beer in the checked luggage. You can avoid the corking fee if you carry your owner bottle opener...we have never had a problem bringing it on board, you can even buy alcohol at ports and bring it on. We did that on the Mexican cruise with Disney
Any and all beverages MUST be hand carried on to the ship, this is stated on DCL's website. The corking fee in the dining room is $20.

So if you open your bottle even in the dining you avoid the corking fee? I thought you had to ask your stateroom host for glasses, open it in your room and then carry it to the dining room? Thanks Tammy, Jaja, Jill for all the info! :)

Ahhh the dyslexia kicks in-- or the exhaustion.. our state room in 2603, Thanks for catching that. Can you correct that on the FE list? thanks

Oh, good so we were guessing that you meant 2603. That's where Margaret put you in the the list. thanks :goodvibes

Is it 9/6 yet???
Been a bad couple of days for us, and a bad week for friends sailing with us.

DD & I were is a small accident the other night. She actually ran into me as a firetruck was going thru an intersection and we all had to slam on our brakes to avoid hitting the truck. We are both ok, but now I have to figure out how to get 2 cars fixed, that are both driveable fortunately, when they are in FL and I will be in DE. I have a feeling I'll be back down in FL not too long after this cruise to help her out getting the repairs taken care of. I'm grateful that we have good friends that will be staying with her in FL for about 3 or 4 weeks and they can lend a much needed hand if necessary.

Now to hope this storm doesn't cause flight delays since I fly north on Wed. and they say the storm may take an easterly turn after it passes FL. I really NEED a cruise!!!

Aw, Jill I hope everyone is ok and we're praying for you!!! :worried:

No, CaliforniaGirl09 and I are not doing the FE. There are two Monicas. We would have been interested in the FE but just couldn't rally for it after doing an FE in Alaska just a couple of weeks ago. Hope you all have fun. We are planning to attend the DIS meet and the non-champagne girls "pink" meet.
CaliforniaGirl09 and I are also DVC. We will likely see you there as well.

Thanks for clarifying the double Monicas, lol!

Aw, come on if I can make 250 FEs for all three cruises I'm on for 9/2, 9/7 and 9/12 in exactly 4 weeks, I'm sure you can bounce back from your Alaskan cruise!?! I'm just just joking! I don't know what the heck I was thinking, lol :lmao:

Was the Alaskan on the Wonder and was it "wonderful"? That is on my list to do. Hoping they send out DVC sales more often!! That's the only reason I was able to do the triple NY to Canada b/c it was like getting 3 for 1 ;-)

You mentioned that you're going to the meets but there is also the Roaming Mickey Gnome fun and simple game that you or anyone else who hasn't signed up yet can at... http://www.facebook.com/events/112706548874650/

Hey everyone....In regards to the corking fee. DCL charges the corking fee regardless of whether the bottle is opened already or not when you bring it into the dining room. The corking fee charge has nothing to do with the actual opening of the bottle. It is a service charge for bringing a non DCL purchased bottle of booze into the dining room.

The servers are supposed to charge this on every bottle not purchased on DCL but sometimes they "overlook" it and sometimes they do not. Sometimes they may feel that charging you the corking fee will diminish their tip but they are supposed to charge it.

So...go in with your own bottle fully expecting to pay the corking fee and if it is not charged, then consider yourself lucky...otherwise you may be disappointed when they bring around the slip to sign for the corking charge.

According to DCL policy all beverages brought onboard are to be consumed in your own cabin and not consumed in public areas. Also, as JillJill mentioned all beverages brought onboard MUST be packed in your carryon bags so make it easy on yourself and put it in a rolling type bag as you will have it with you until the rooms open at 1:30 pm. Beverages are NOT to be packed in checked luggage. If DCL find beverages in checked luggage they will confiscate it.

No trying to be a Debbie Downer but I don't want anyone to be caught off guard if they are charged the corking fee or have their booze confiscated.

We are from northern NJ so this is a much easier trip than the Alaska cruise. It will be great to be able to drive to the cruise rather than fly in. It is our hope that Disney will continue to sail out of NY. We will have to see what happens in 2014

Thanks for the great welcome! We have lots of pixie dust and FE gifts to pass along... 2 weeks is going to fly by

We are right on the border of NY/NJ near Old Tappan, NJ.

We have done 3 cruises out of NYC on DCL this summer and it is an awesome experience. We did the Alaskan cruise last summer and that was just awesome as well. Hubby likes to cruise to warm climates and had to twist his arm to get him to Alaska but he really loved it!!

Driving to the port is so great and I was so excited to finally be able to take a DCL cruise without flying!!! Love having the Magic in the our "backyard".

Hi Virgil while my memory is going I do remember your name from the Baltic. Great to have you aboard this cruise! We are booked on the 2013 Med that goes to Greece are you going on that one? Sue
Sue, no, we're doing the 7 day out of Barcelona. I've been on this itinerary before, but my fiance hasn't.

Thanks. I will check out the Roaming Mickey Gnome game.

Yes, the Alaskan cruise was on the Wonder out of Seattle, and it was fabulous. The scenery in Alaska is so amazing, and it was so much fun to see the characters in their Alaska outfits. My only complaint about the cruise was how fast it went -- much more so than our previous two. Oh well, just leaves me wanting to go back to Alaska -- either on another cruise or maybe the Adventures by Disney land-based trip. It also made me really glad I had this cruise booked and waiting in the wings.

:boat: 11 Days :boat:

Since next Monday is Labor Day, this is the last Monday that I have to work before the cruise!

Youngest DD started high school this morning - can't believe it. I'm getting anxious about the cruise and leaving her at home with her older sister. I know they will be ok, but it still makes me nervous and she is not too happy with us for leaving her at home.

Forgive me if someone mentioned this already on the thread.... Is anyone a big pin trader thats going to be on board? I am packing now and am not sure just to bring be trades to trade with the cast members or should i bring a few of my nicer pins to trade? do they have meeting areas for pin traders? They dissuaded this more in wdw but for one place in Epcot, so i am not sure if they did everywhere.

Not sure how they will handle pin trading on a 5 nigh but on most 7 nights they have a night where the officers all pin trade in the atrium. They even roll out a fixture where you can buy pins right in the atrium.

I would think they would have some sort of pin trading...as they usually do (it just might not be with the officers).

Been a bad couple of days for us, and a bad week for friends sailing with us.

What a pain in the neck to have two vehicles to get fixed, but it's lucky you are both physically OK. Keeping you both in my thoughts. I know from experience that surprise aches and pains can pop up several days later.

Forgot to mention we're going to go up on 9/6 and stay the night in the city. I had booked the Comfort Inn on 39th St, but started 2nd guessing my choice so I kept looking for another hotel. Last night I finally decided to give Priceline another shot and I was able to get the Hampton Inn on 39th St for $111 + taxes and insurance for a total of $143. I'm thrilled since I had looked at the hotel and there was no way I was paying $339 + taxes for the night to stay there.

You got a great price! I was thrilled that I paid under $150 (before taxes), but we are way the heck downtown. I haven't decided what to do for dinner on the 6th.

Thanks so much. We're both still pain free, good thing we weren't going all that fast to begin with since the speed limit was 35 and the car in front of me wasn't doing the speed limit to begin with.

We'll go to Junior's or John's Pizzaria for dinner. I'm sure Junior's will win out tho since DH isn't usually with me when I go to NYC and he loves Junior's. If we get to the city early enough to have lunch and dinner we'll eat at both places.

I know exactly where Montville is. I used to work in Livingston and drove down 287.

Love, love, love John's Pizzeria!!! I would have loved to have spent the night in the city pre cruise but our friends are going to the Madonna concert that night so they did not want to. I told them they better be up and ready early the day of the cruise so we can drive in.

I lived in Oak Ridge and Sparta before moving to PA.

I know where Montville is.

We decided to jump the boarder about 18 years ago. Now we're in the Poconos.

DH is retiring in 5 more months and we're moving to live next to the mouse!! I'm excited for the move.
