Gosh we must be old and really out of touch.:lmao:
We DON'T have a Wii or any other game system:eek:

When the kids were at home we had an Atari, anybody remember those?
Pac man and Pong games.
Guess i'll have to ask one of my kids if they have a Wii and let me see what all the fun is about.:confused3 I'm sure if they dont have one, one of the grandkids will.

Kathy

The Wii is really fun. I am completly awful at standard video games. When my brother and I used to play mario brothers on the nintendo his turn would be 20-30 minutes long, when my turn finally rolled around I would take 3 steps and fall into a hole or get bitten by a duck thing. Not so fun.

With the Wii I actually can play most of the games. And even if I stink at them, they are fun!

Kathy, you NEED to get a WII. It is great for us old folk and for the RV. I never liked video games since Pong. :rotfl2: I tried PacMan on the Atari and hated it. It made me really nervous with that little guy chasing me!! :sad2: Never played any games since. But the WII is just way different. It gets us up off the couch! Love, love, love it!

I will have to look into it.
I know it is really popular but I have never looked into it. It might be fun to have something new to try.

Hopefully one of the grandkids will have one for me to try out before buying.

Angie, where are you guys staying at now?
We are debating going back to Florida next month but even going the southern route we need to go over the Siskyou(spelling?) pass between Oregon and California. We will see how clear the highway is there before deciding. With it being I-5 they will keep it sanded pretty good.
The rest of the way should be ok.

I was terrible at the few older games I tried too. I will see about trying a Wii with grandkids soon. I love to try new things.

Hi All -

Golly, we're already on our SECOND thread. .. .wow! Sounds like everyone had a wonderful Christmas and lots of Wii's and Wii Fits were purchased. Grandmax4 .. the Wii is great! It is our first gaming system. I firmly do not like them, but the Wii keeps the kids (and me active) so they're not just couch potatoes.

As for resolutions (since I only have teen boys that probably will stay on the bus for awhile . . LOL).

Of course the eat less, exercise more is my first priority. I'm tired of feeling tired and taking care of everyone else while letting myself go. Still gotta take care of the family, but need to keep myself at 100%.

I haven't written any others yet .. . but this has me thinking.

Off to get dinner ready for those teen age boys I mentioned earlier. .. they like to eat A LOT!!

Happy New Year Everyone!!

Theresa 8-)

...we have cheerleading practice every day during school break and my squad has been dealing with all kinds of stress, setbacks, drama, etc. with the squad (OY!! it makes me glad I'm just the coach and not the PARENT of a teenage girl!! :lmao: )....

2.) In light of the above-mentioned drama....I'm making a resolution not to throw any of my cheerleaders out of a moving bus!!! :rotfl2:

I hear ya on that one...I coach high-school aged girls volleyball (well, not this year in order to spend more quality time at home with the little one), and the drama is incredible! The girls are lots of fun in general, but at times it can be crazy...

No worries Kathy:goodvibes my kids are 10 and 12 and we don't even have one:rotfl: They have played them at friend's houses and say they are fun for a while but not intersting enough to own unless you had somewhere to put a DDR stand up full time:confused3 Maybe they are just playing the wrong games, who knows? Anyway, you are not the only Wii-less person out there;)
I DO remember Atari--my cousin had one. I had a Texas Insruments and was the best Parsec player on the block. I am sooo dating myself here:confused:

That sounds like a lot of fun... When do you leave?
We are quite booked the next 3 weekends, but we can hopefully work something out.

Well, we leave January 31--so not much time left. But we might be able to figure something out between us.

Teenage girls, you have my sympathy.
I can't imagine a squad of them to coach:scared:
I had enough trouble raising 2 of them;) My hats off to you for being able to stick it out:worship: :worship: :worship:
Hope you dont pull out your hair while coaching them, I know I would:rolleyes1

Good luck, your going to need it:goodvibes

Kathy

I remember Atari! I'll never forget the Christmas we got ours - was actually talking about it last week on Christmas Day matter of fact. My parents had split up that August and Christmas was pretty tight that year - I ended up helping my mom wrap my brothers presents and we went to my mom's BF (later my step-father) house and watched all his nieces and nephews get an Atari while sitting there feeling sorry for myself (he gave me a stuffed animal and I was 13 at the time) when after everyone else had unwrapped their presents he gave my brother and I this huge box to unwrap and inside was the Atari and a whole bunch of games.

OK- I give up on trying to add my name to the roll call. I couldn't figure out how to enable the email...it kept asking if my server is Pop or something like that and I have no idea....sigh. I guess I get the dingbat award. Anyway...here's my info for everyone:
Dis name: DCLFUN
Name: Kathy ( and service dog Skye who will also be sailing)
Number of guests- just me for now, may add my DD, her husband and grandchild
Number of past cruises: this would be my 14th- have only sailed with DCL
Stateroom number : 8600
I'll try and find a photo...oh and we're not celebrating anything special.
Kathy

Happy New Year everyone!

Kathy--you can celebrate your 14th DCL cruise--I totally think that counts:upsidedow Or ,didn't you post that you had never been to Europe? Celebrate your first trip across the pond:rolleyes: I am just glad it is sounding more and more like you are really comming with us.

We are about 40 miles north of Tucson on I-10 at a wonderful state park. Picacho Peak State Park. We planned to be here 1 night, but love it so much that we will stay 3 for sure and maybe up to 5 nights. We want to visit Tombstone and have decided we can do a day trip from here rather than moving that 50 or so miles to another site for a couple of days. Then we are off to Las Cruces, NM for a few days waiting for the thunderstorms to clear Texas. (checking weather dot com) Then the plan is 3 or 4 days in Texas around San Antonio/Austin before heading on into Florida.

Just watch the weather for a window of opportunity between storms to get over the Siskyou Mts.

Have a great trip,:cutie:

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2009 !!

My first New Year resolution is to lose at least 14lbs - and keep it off! I want to take up more exercise and have in general a more healthy lifestyle.

We also plan to carry on with some home improvements - which is why we have no plans for a Disney vacation in 2009 ( so my other new year resolution is to have enough willpower NOT to book a Disney vacation for 2009 - at least until the home improvements are completed - until then we will be camping!)

and I also need to finish my 2008 trip report, and start my scrapbooking from my 2008 trip

I remember the Atari! I sure do... best christmas present EVERRRRRRRRRR
(just like those car commercials where they show the "best present ever" then diss that with the new gift years later of a vehicle. LOL hopefully you've seen the commercial to know what i"m talking about). I can so relate to the one about Atari. Watched a cool show the other day about 70's technology.. oh the memories the speak and spell (or whatever it was technically called) and the atari they showed/talked about on there. Felt kinda ancient though since they were talking like it was EONS and eons ago. LOL

I wish I had an atari again. I'm woefully horrible at the new games. I can't play well at all on those handheld controller games... but I can have a good time on the Wii doing the wiifit and sports games. :) It's like really being there but without quite as much RUNNING around (like when playing tennis LOL)

I miss pong....... :guilty:

oh about teenagers.. I don't envy the coach. I had a teenager that was cheerleader last year and ooh boy. I feel for any cheerleader coach! Dealing with just my ONE teenage girl is enough thanks. LOL

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2009 !!

Happy new year to you too Sarah. I'm with you with the new years resolution. I'll also catch up on your trip report over the weekend.

Aha! Then I definitely will be celebrating my first trip to Europe- hadn't thought about that. Initially I was waitlisted for an accessible room and then was able to get the the accessible suite ( only thing available for someone who can't go without an accessible room ), then I wasn't sure I could afford it and now think I can with some help from my Mom. Mostly though my son, age 22, is on dialysis and if a kidney comes though for him or if he isn't doing well then I wouldn't want to be gone that long, so mainly that's why I have to wait and see for sure if we're going. I have one daughter who is pregnant and expecting in June 09 ( she's the one who loves BCN and has been before) but have to see if she and her husband can take that much time off. It's also her first baby and I don't think she realizes how her life will change! My other daughter and her husband have a 15 month old but doubt they could take the time off, and then I have a son in the Navy who probably has had enough of "sailing", lol. So there's my story. I'm definitely planning on coming though, solo or not, as long as my son is okay.---Kathy

AND, they drove up to Phoenix last night to meet sister Peg and I for dinner! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: Three hours of jabbering away in a NY deli!

Right back at ya babe! ;)

Hello again!
It has been a long time since I posted so I decided you may forget me if I didn't add a post soon!! LOL

We have a Wii and love Wii sports and Wii Fit. I am bound and determine to pass the swimming bubble balance game but alas I hold all the top 10 spots and have not completed the course.... My DH just laughs because I am proud to hold all 10 spots when I am competing against my 7 and 10 year old instead of people my own age. He is sure I would not rank against an actual fit person!!!! I didn't have the heart to reply with the obvious jab that his Mii person is fat. The Wii Fit calculates your height and weight and sizes up your Mii accordingly and his little Mii is round (and he thinks he is fit so that made it all the funnier).
Also, the rest of the family loves Mario Kart on the Wii - I can not get my car to stay where I want it...

So, old computer game stories.... I never had an Atari. My family purchased the previous gaming system that you probably never heard of. I had the TI 99. It was a large computer with a green screen and no graphics. You were a green dot. We had pong and that may have been all. Then the Atari came out and dad said we had the better system and we never got the Atari.

Christmas stories...
I loved the Atari story as a Christmas present so I am adding my Christmas memory. One year, I must have been seven. I wanted one gift - a make-up chemistry set. I opened everything and it was not there. I got a life siz play house for the back yard, and Strawberry Shortcake dolls with a Grandpa made display house (that I still have abd love although it no longer displays Shortcake dolls.....) and more. I got tons of wonderful things but instead of being excited, I was bummed. Santa forgot the one thing I wanted. THEN about 1/2 hour later, my cousins arrived for a family day of fun and they came in and said that something was on the roof... Well my Dad went outside and it was a present. We got the ladder and got the present and it was for me! Santa had dropped my Make-up Chemistry set on the roof when he delivered my presents. It was the greatest moment! To this day, it is my best memory.

Good morning everyone,

well I am happy to know I'm not the only one who remembers the Atari system.

My BIL still has one and every game they ever made for it. It works perfectly because it hasnt been used almost since he bought it.
Kids got in trouble and he put it up and never gave it back to them. It has sat all those years. My SIL tried it out a while back and it still works perfectly.
Today I get to do some Christmas baking to take to our oldest DD's house tomorrow when the family gathers for our gift exchange we couldnt do at Christmas due to the ice and snow.

It feels strange to do it after Christmas. Tomorrow we have a wind and rain storm coming but not bad enough to stop us from going. She is 115 miles one way, so its never an easy trip for us. 50 MPH winds so have to be careful.

If your going to party tonight, Please have a designated driver. I dont want to loose any new friends before we even get to meet!!
Have fun, stay safe and

HAPPY NEW YEARS EVERYONE !!!
