STILL WAITING.....please, please Disney....pick me! Pick me! :surfweb:

Someone at DCL is working late... we had our 10Cgty assigned as a 10B this afternoon, then while cooking dinner I was going to email Pat our room # for FE, and double-checked to be sure I was correct... and it had changed to a 9C! (And that was about an hour ago)

Granted, its under Sessions... but with late dinner, I'm hoping everything shuts down around midnight (and we pick up our little one from Flounders at 11P). But I was definitely surprised to see it changed! It changed from a room with steamer to one without, and it makes me wonder if they took into consideration we have a crib requested, so no steamer makes for more room for the crib (pack-n-play).

I'm super excited to have a window - the big window - although Curt still thinks that is going to distract from the girls taking an afternoon nap. (And he includes ME in "girls" LOL). The only other time we had a window was floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall windows... or the times with a verandah... so a round window will be a new experience! (As will cruising with two little ones!) ;) His favorite is still an inside... it is not uncommon for me to wake up, find him not in bed... but rather in our closet asleep so the sun doesn't wake him with his weird shifts at work! :rotfl2:

Attention all Daniel Taxi Madeira Cruisers

Answers to a few questions that have come up about payment etc. My questions in blue and Eusébia's answers in red.

1. Are we still prepaying as a gift to Daniel’s PayPal account address: jd-taxi@hotmail.com

Yes, better pay as a gift, so as to avoid any taxes. Daniel's Paypal address is still jd-taxi@hotmail.com

2. Do you send out confirming emails when people pay?
Yes, of course. As soon as payment is finalized, I send out a confirmation email to the people concerned.

3. What information do you want people to put in the PayPal notes, Noel's tour?

Yes, "Noel's tour" will be perfect.

4. Is a cutoff date of Saturday, August 27 ok with you? I can send you a list of the van assignments before then if you need it

Saturday August 27th is fine.

5. I assume the drivers still do not take credit cards, is that still correct?

That's correct, it's not yet possible to pay the drivers with credit cards, however they'll be very pleased to stop by an ATM if necessary.

6. Do you know if the cable car takes credit cards? I also assume the toboggan drivers only take cash, is that still correct

Yes, the cable car takes credit card, but not the toboggans, though.

I think I'm going to ask if you're still interested in adding a visit to Blandy's at the end of the tour. I did also put down a note about the visit to the supermarket.

I will be making the van assignments soon and sending everyone a PM. Please be sure to sign up for Blandy's if you want to do the tour as I would like to get a count. Either tour can end with a tour at Blandy's.

Congratulations and how exciting MandyGirl!!! Do you think he will be okay with the curtain that you can draw to separate the desk area (with the window) from the sleeping area?

I love my packing cubes. They really have changed the way I pack. Now everything is so organized and in its proper place. It makes it easier to unpack, keeps my clothing organized, less wrinkles and helps when I need to separate dirty items from clean items. And the few times that TSA has opened my luggage, they can't mess it all up when its in cubes. Also having a cube in my carryon is a godsend b/c its not just a bunch of stuff floating around in there.

Thanks for posting info' on these packing cubes, Liz. I'd never seen them before, but after looking at the thread and at some videos on Heys' Web site, we'll be ordering some for this trip. :thumbsup2

Congrats to those with room assignments/upgrades :goodvibes

For those people who have already been to Barcelona could you tell me what your favorite attractions were. We are trying to plan out what to see, and do. Just checked and it will cost us U$35 just to see Sagrada Familia, is that worth it? That's alot of money to see a church  We are also planning a day trip to Montserrat and any tips would be appreciated :flower3:

Go on Friday instead of thursday - The 8th is some kind of pilgrimage day apparently. Take the train (I think it's R5) from Placa de Espana. When you buy your ticket tell them whether you want cable car or Funiculair. They are at different stops.

Last year when we did the Med, we arrived by overnight train and had a few hours to kill before going to the port so we asked the taxi driver at the train station to tour us (we negotiated a price beforehand). We toured the outside of the Sagrada (walked completely around it taking photos) while he waited with our luggage. We then went to Park Guell and was there for about 45 min. He dropped us off right at the entrance. We then went to see the Olympic stadium, followed by the Castle in Montjuic where we got some great photos of the Magic. After that, he drove us along Passeig de Gracia, where we stopped to photograph the exterior of the Gaudi houses, then drove down the Ramblas to see the activity there, then he dropped us off at the ship. All this was free, so our only cost was the cab and it gave us a great overview of the city. We paid him 120 euro plus tip for 3 hours.
After the cruise, we toured the Ramblas including the boqueria and we also went to the cathedral in the Gothic Quarter (its free to get in in the am). DS got a haircut while DD and I shopped for some really nice ceramics. We headed back to the ship in the afternoon to continue a B2B. DH got his luggage and checked into a hotel for his early flight back the next morning.
This year's med, we spent 2 days before and 2 days after the cruise. Pre-cruise, we stayed north of Placa de Catalunya at the Hotel Continental Palacete and really enjoyed its location to the Gaudi homes and shopping on the Passeig de Gracia. DD and I shopped all morning the day we arrived while the boys slept, then in the afternoon we went to Casa Mila (Pedrera), one of the Gaudi homes. Loved it, esp the roof! In the evening, DH and I had a very nice dinner in Barceloneta at 7 Portes. Its very close to the metro stop and the metro was very easy to use. We met another american couple while waiting for a table and asked if they wanted to join us. Had excellent rich mans (or was it called poor mans?) paella and a few pitchers of sangria with our tablemates!! We wound up closing down the restaurant so DH and I took a taxi back since the metro had stopped running. Its a very different crowd that walks the Ramblas late at night. :scared1: The next day, we visited the Picasso museum (free for kids under 16 so we only had to pay for DH and I). I loved the museum and they have a fantastic museum shop. We ate lunch at a place nearby close to the metro www.restaruantenervion.com and they handed us a tourist menu but they also sold bocadillos (sandwiches) and pizza (neither was on the menu they gave us) so that's what we ordered. I had wonderful churros and chocolate for dessert. We wound up getting 2 more orders of churros only, they were so good and hot! YUM!!:cloud9:
DD and DH were tired so they went back to the hotel, and DS and I took the metro to the Arc de Triomph to visit the Chocolate Museum. That area is very nice too strolling the park there. Well, we spent almost an hour looking for the museum and actually walked right by it, beside it, around it, stopping several times for directions from locals. We wound up in a local plaza in a nearby neighborhood close to the Gothic quarter and sat down to get our bearings. I saw 2 boys running with an open backpack, then a few min later, a family frantically running trying to find them. The boys headed down a narrow alley and I pointed the family that way. Don't know what the outcome was, but be careful of your stuff. Do not lay things down, even for a minute. Wear your backpack (or better yet, don't carry one). DS 14 wore a sling bag across him - he was in charge of carrying water bottles, snacks, the umbrella and guidebook (Frommers Barcelona Day by Day, an invaluable resource:thumbsup2) . I had my small camera, iphone, and cards/money in my pacsafe purse that I wore across my body. We finally found the chocolate museum and DS 14 said that was one of his favorite things to see in Barcelona! I think he also enjoyed the fact it was just he and I and he didn't have to compete with DD 15! ;) That night we went to Taller de Tapas for a Dismeet tapas dinner with 42 people! Fun times!
After the cruise, we stayed at the Fira Palace in Montjuic (I picked this because of its location to what I had planned for the next 2 days). We dropped off luggage and headed to the base of Montjuic. At the grounds where there was the National Museum of Catalunya, we stopped to take in the views of the city and listen to a guitarist. I wished we had time for the museum but we wound up hiking up to the Castle again (it was a hike - we rested on the way). Got great photos of the Magic once again, then took the cable car down to the base of Montjuic. That evening, we went to Poble Espanol to see the flamenco dancing at Tablao de Carmen. You get free entrance 2 hours prior to the show (we did tapas and show). The tapas were plentiful enough that we were stuffed! The flamenco dancing was good - the show lasted about 1 hour. We saw the first show of the Magic Fountains on our walk back to our hotel. It was still light at 9pm though in July and is much more spectacular in the dark.:)
The next day DD was not feeling well so DH stayed behind while DS and I went to Montserrat. There was a huge Harley festival going on with at least 10,000 bikes parading past our hotel that morning! We walked thru the festival to the Sants station, and purchased our train tickets. We opted for the cable ride up (you have to decide once you buy your ticket). We had just missed the train so we went back to enjoy more of the Harley festival.
Since it was Sunday, a service was going on in the basilica. DS did not want to visit any churches (guess he had his fill after 10 nts of cruising) and the line to the Madonna was very long so I did miss that. And the boys choir was on vacation for the summer. We took a second cable called the Joan Muro to another part of the mountains. DS really enjoyed the cable cars.
We got back and had dinner with DH and DD. Most restaurants don't start serving till late, so we got some bread and chees at a local shop to hold us over. After, DS and I went back to the Harley festival to hear a band, and I went to buy a shirt for a friend. We fiinished our last night by seeing the Magic Fountains around 10:30pm. They were much more spectacular in the dark! If you want, FB me (put in the comments that you are on this cruise so I know who you are), and you can see my photo album - its called DCL Barcelona 2011.
OK, this sounds like a trip report!!!:goodvibes I loved everything we did but was not a big fan of the lower Ramblas other than the Boqueria. Once down was enough. :) My personal don't misses are Sagrada (at least the outside), Casa Mila, Park Guell, Picasso museum, and find some good paella and sangria!:cloud9:

Oh, here's everything we need to know and more! Thank you!!!!

Wow, good for you guys!

No problem Lorraine! Before I had the cubes I would have never thought I'd use them - they seemed a little too organized - but my husband bought them and encouraged me to give them a try and now I'll never go back. ;)

I went from 11C GTY to 11A (#6055). I was hoping for something a little bit better if it's really true that the ship is not full yet, but maybe they'll do some more adjustments later ;)

Hi all

I haven't been on for a few days. So i'll need to catch up when I get home now. Thank goodness for Lynne's fabulous weekly catchups :thumbsup2

I'm glad to see that everyone is getting the assignments and there has been some pixie dust. I have just checked ours and it's still the same, but I wasn't expecting an upgrade with a cabin number already assigned :)

We are all so mega excited, we are just getting all packed up here at the Beach Club getting ready for boarding the Dream tomorrow afternoon

We've just been over at the AKL visting our friends who are staying in the DVC rooms in the Jambo House and they are in a concierge DVC room. It is absolutely amazing, I didn't realise how great the DVC concierge was. I am definitely checking out the points for that when I get home. My friends have hardly had to feed their 3 teenagers due to the quality and quantity of the food and beveridges available :)

Off to finish packing, the washer is going like mad at the minute, I am determined not to have to do any laundry on the cruise and join the mad scrum.... it's only 5 nights so hopefully we'll manage since everything from WDW is going across clean :)

I cannot believe we are down to just over a month now till the WBTA, we'll be there before we know it !!!

Congrats to those with room assignments/upgrades :goodvibes

We have a request w/ BarcelonaDayTours.com for September 9 for their Montserrat and Cava full day tour. It is a small group tour w/ 5-12 persons for 8 hours-79euros. I am waiting on a confirmation since they have to have the minimum for the small group tour. Check it out on their website and join my husband and me on this tour.

Congratulations and how exciting MandyGirl!!! Do you think he will be okay with the curtain that you can draw to separate the desk area (with the window) from the sleeping area?

Ha... I tried pointing that out... he thinks the girls will forego their naps, but I guess they can always nap in our bed and we relax on the couch during nap time (or whoever is in with them for naps). If we don't get naps, we have cranky evenings... but they are pretty good at taking naps (except when in a tent in the mountains... LOL!)

I swear by packing cubes! :thumbsup2

Bring two clothes pins, then; one for the window curtain and one for the room divider.

Thanks, Lynne! I just added those to our Excel sheet... :cool1:

Have an awesome cruise on the Dream! And your trip in Florida is sounding awesome!! :)

Got mine too!! I had an 11C GTY and got an 11B...but it's a sideways room on deck 5 (5005), so i'm happy with that!! It's right over the theater, but I don't plan on being in my room during the shows so that's okay.

well hello there neighbour!
at least it'll make FE deliveries easy :) i saw that review too, but thought that i dont plan to be in the room during shows either, lets just hope that they dont do any late night rehearsals.

shame i cant join in the deck six riverdance now that i'm a deck five-r, but i'll have to get the stick ready to bang on the ceiling instead!

The FE Sign-Up is Now Closed!

Please check your list for last-minute additions. A couple of people who were initially in only one group asked to participate in multiple groups, and since we had openings available, I added them in. I also decided to sign up for the last group (the only group I wasn't in). What the heck, I can crochet on the plane to Barca. Take my mind off flying - which I hate, anyway.

Thank you to everyone who signed up for this. We have a grand total of... (drum roll, please)... 62 cabins participating! :woohoo:

I think that's a rather splendid turn out!

I've also sent the email out for GTY cabin numbers. Please reply to that as soon as possible so I can get those added to the lists.

Now, it's back to crocheting for me - and figuring out what to get for my Secret Mickey, and getting my traveling magnet finished, and ordering my candy for the candy swap, and making my mask for Villian's night, and buying euros and pounds, and..., and..., and... OMD! We leave in 36 days!! :scared1:

LOL reminds me of my college days!! We had a rowdy apartment above ours, so my roomates and I often had to break out the broomstick at 3 am to pound on the ceiling at then!! We can keep those riverdancers in line, Karen!!! :rotfl:

Or, its just a short trip up the stairs to join them, lol!!

We were in one of those Deck 5 sideways on the Wonder in June - the rehearsals are in the afternoon. Apparently, that was when my sister was trying to take a nap.

For those of you who have done this cruise before, I was wondering if you would share with me what kind of souvenirs you picked up on your trip. I want to try and make some baggage allowance for souvenirs and want to get an idea of what might be available. We won't be buying booze, and I certainly don't want any details about any biological souvenirs (the kind that come 9 months after the cruise) if you know what I mean ;)

Here are some of the souvenirs in a gift shop near Park Guell in Barcelona:

I think the yellow posts have climbing frogs:

Okay, not the best (they're from the top deck of the HOHO bus); but the idea is they have a lot of gifts that are done in the mosaic tile style of Antonin Gaudi.

If you have any sports fans (especially soccer), the Football Club Barcelona shirts were widely available.

His favorite is still an inside... it is not uncommon for me to wake up, find him not in bed... but rather in our closet asleep so the sun doesn't wake him with his weird shifts at work! :rotfl2:

Congrats on the upgrade, but are you sure Curt isn't a vampire? My mind immediately leaped to a scene out of "True Blood"! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Nothing yet....I'm convinced it's because our res is linked to my DM's, and DCL has decided to put us all in the Walt suite as a surprise :thumbsup2...don't worry, I'll open it up for the cabin tour!

Well, a girl can dream ;)

Reusable Hard Plastic BPA-free Tumbler

customizable_cold_cup-24_oz_0.jpg

The Starbucks one above is used as an example (it is $15)

JCPenney has clear ones for $8 (on sale) currently. They are dishwasher safe, for cold beverage, includes the straw w/stop guard; the lid screws on (but is not guaranteed to be leakproof if tipped); oh yeah, it's 24 oz. Great for carrying a cold drink to Buena Vista or Walt Disney Theatre and not having your drink go watery so quickly (or keeping your water cool).

I would say that he church is worth it. It is one of the most unique Church's I have seen to date. You should also get the combo ticket to climb up the tower, it is really neat. You take an elevator up and then climb down. When we cruised in May, we went there before getting on the cruise on a Sunday morning...we go there at 0900 and only had to wait in a short line for tickets. We spent about 2 hours there. The line got really really long right after we got our tickets and the tour buses started showing up, so I say go early!

It is easy to get to on the Metro as it has its own stop.

Question for those who have been to Park Guell, how do you get there, is it taxi only or is there some form of public transport? I would like to go there this time, but having trouble finding more about how to get there in the guides.

Thanks!

Amanda
