Well, good news and bad news... first the bad news. My friend who I wanted to cruise with is unable to go due to health issues. :sad1: But the good news is that I have taken up Evelyn's offer (fly4free2) to be her roomie and will be joining ya'll!!!:dance3::dance3::dance3: I'm super excited to be doing a transatlantic at last! This will be my 6th DCL cruise, all on the Magic! :thumbsup2 Our family did the Med last year, and again this year, and the kids and I stayed on for the repo cruise last year from Barcelona to Dover. All of the European cruises have been amazing! :cloud9:
A little about me: My name is Taina (rhymes with China). Its a Fnnish name as is Sinnika, my mom's alias name she would call herself sometimes. She is from Finland. My father is from Peru, and my parents immigrated to Baltimore in the late 50's where I was born and raised (one of 8 kids). I now live in the BIG state of Texas in a very small town where everyone knows each other. :)
We're near Houston (about 40 miles west of the city) so I just say I'm from Houston! :thumbsup2
I have 2 high schoolers and a DH who will be holding down the fort and taking care of our 3 cats while I'm gone!
I'm ready to jump into all the fun! I need to read up on all the activities, plus plan a few excursions! I have not booked airfare yet as I may decide to visit another city before getting to Barcelona. London is at the top of my list. Is anyone going there pre-cruise? I love the theatre and would enjoy going to see a musical or two.
Well, looking forward to chatting, planning, oh and I guess I need to work some to make some spending money for the trip! :)

Welcome aboard Taina!! We are Noel and John and this will be our 5th cruise on DCL. Our last cruise was the 2010 WBTA so if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask or PM me.

Hopefully, a group of DISers will volunteer to underwrite the lanyards as they did last year so they will be free to the rest of the DISers. We already have several people offering to be part of the lanyard underwriting group. If you wish to join, please send Noel (Birkner) a PM. If we get enough members, the cost should be $10 or less per member.

Payment is to be made by June 30, 2011 to birkner@needinfo.com on PayPal. Contact Noel (birkner) if you have more questions about pins.

09. We are also going to do a Champagne Girls meet. The Champagne Girls event originated on the WBPC cruise in 2008. Women get together dressed in pink to drink champagne or non alcoholic bubbly and chat. Pictures of the first meet are in this post and pictures from the last WBTA are in this post. Please PM (Clare)Pinky166 to add you name to the list.

10. If you would like to join in the Scrapbooking Exchange, please PM Clare (Pinky166) with your name and room number. The idea is to give your fellow exchangers some scrapbooking embellishments for use in your scrapbooks after you return home! For more info check this post.

15. Karen (Pixie Dust For Me!)is organizing stateroom tours, but we can't do it without you! PM me with your stateroom assignment and room number and we will tour as many staterooms as possible. It would be great to get one in every category!
When: Definitely on a sea day....stay tuned for which day!
Time: TBD
Where: You will be given a list of participating stateroom numbers and categories the day after we embark (to account for all those upgrades, don't you know )
Refreshments: Optional per discretion of stateroom participant.

16. If you want a designed DIS tee shirt for this cruise, follow the instruction in this post. DIS Tee shirt

17. Cliffy 97 (Dan and Bruce) are organizing a typical English pub crawl on Friday, September 16 from 1:00PM until 5:00PM. We can then restart after dinner.
Those who were interested will in one of the bars for ( Traditionally a half pint pounded, I would suggest a drink of your choice) and then visit (Crawl) every other bar on the ship at least once.
As we do not have to worry about anything closing or how we are getting home, I would imagine we can spend 20-30 min at each location versus the 5-10 min you have on the monopoly pub crawl in London.

Tee Shirt Order Site
More details on the pub crawl here: Pub Crawl

If you are located outside of the USA and want a t-shirt, please PM Chris&Jeremy and he will send you the artwork so you can have your own shirt printed locally.

18. If anyone wants to organize a postcard exchange, please feel free to start one. What we did las year is bring a postcard from where we lived and left in each other's FE. It is best to limit the number of participants no more than 25 as cost and weight to bring become an issue.

19. If you are interested in joining us for a farewell lunch, contact Claire (Pinky166) to be added to the list.
Come & join us for a farewell DIS lunch on the last sea day. Thursday 22nd Sept at 12.15pm, we are not sure which of the three rotational restaurants will be open on that day, should there be more than one open I have put them in order of preference - 1st Lumiere's, 2nd Parrot Cay or 3rd Animator's Palate.
Please make sure you check your Navigator that morning to see which restaurant is open for lunch as I won't be able to tell you in advance.
Please PM me if you'd like to join us and I will add you to the list, then once onboard notify the restaurant so they can seat us together at some large tables.

20. Hard Rock Cafe Meet. Some of us are hoping to meet up for drinks/a meal the evening of Friday 9th September at 6:30 PM at the Hard Rock Cafe on Placa Catalunya and is being organized by Sarah (Totally Angelic). Please send her a PM if you want to join in the fun!

21. Jane (We'reAliens) is organizing a Book Exchange. The idea is that a large bag will be hung on handrail outside stateroom 7120 available for anyone to borrow and, of course, donate books.

22. Jill (TxMermaid1) is organizing a dive in Tortola. Here is the info on the dive trip for Tortola Group leader lead by Jill Bouska, PADI Master Scuba Diver Instructor. Tortola Dive

Hi and welcome. We did the WBTA last year and if that was anything to go by this one will be FABULOUS!!!

Just leave your door open. Trust me between the wind and or ocean sound you will be fine. I know we never closed our door when we had a balcony. Just bring a bungee cord or door stop with you.

:)

Forgive me but I don't chat much and am just getting accustomed to this website. I don't have a photo ( would like one to add on the left side when my name appears & where I'm from--no clue).
I have a few questions--

1) Noel, what is your website for me to check in our information to be added onto your list? I would like to add myself and my DD. I am interested in the lanyard & pin (1 each). Also the Madeira tour sounds great (can we do both)?

2) KJ_connections...great we are both from Toronto. I have had my eye on AirTransat. I notice they allow 23kg/pp 1 bag to Spain while they allow 50 kg/pp to Portugal for less airfare (?), therefore it will be either landing in Portugal or Barcelona.

3) I read on the 4th thread (I think it was) that someone was looking into horseback riding in St Maarten. Is that still possible or has it been scrapped?

4)Has anyone acquired a schedule of the wide body jets landing & takeoff times at St Maarten's airport? I am very interested in this.

5)Does anyone know why our ship arrives so late into CC?

6)Is there transport planned for Port Canaveral to MCO or MLB...or...WDW?
I rented a car from MCO to Port Canaveral in May in order to stock up prior to the cruise but this time I am thinking I may not need a vehicle. What are others doing post cruise? Noel do you have a list of names & what they are doing/organizing?

7)Can we set up something for the kids to get together on the first day to all meet each other? There is little traffic in the kids thread for this cruise, so perhaps we parents should have something since there will be fewer than normal numbers of children.

8)Just wanted to let anyone know something I found out and found useful---that for Canadians, a passport should be at least 6 months away from expiry from the dates arriving into ports.

9) I love all the ideas everyone has shared---keep them coming!

10) Does anyone know if Ducky Williams will be on board this WBTA?

11) Will Alfred & Seymour be one of the performers? We LOVE their performance every time!!

Thanks again for the warm welcome.

What I have heard is most of the KLM jets land after 12PM.

I don't have a list started and don't know of one at this time.

You are welcome!! I am sure more of us will have the rest of the answers to the questions you asked.

Will try and answer as many as I remember :)

A few of us have booked horseriding on St Maarten, we've done it individually, there isnt a formal group booking.

Ducky won't be on this cruise unfortunately, he's got other commitments

There is a day one kids/toddler meet, I think mandygirl is heading that one up

The website address is in post one of this thread. There's also a lot more important info on there that's worth reading.

No disboard organised transport from port canaveral, but you can buy the DCL transfers that go to the airport.

That's all I can answer. Maybe someone else can do the rest?

Noel, realised that the welcome wagon still lists the high tea that's been cancelled

So glad to have Taina join me:jumping1: It's going to be a great cruise, I can just feel it:angel::goodvibes Can't wait for the festivities to begin :banana:

Welcome Nancy & Nancy-Paris. :cool1:

Welcome Taina. :yay:

We are Claire & Lee from the UK, this is our 3rd dcl cruise but 1st TA.

I forgot 2 to mention more points:

A) Is anyone interested or know about The Dolphin Royal Swim on Tortola? I am looking at booking it directly and would be very happy to share a taxi (minivan) with others who are interested. Noel can we get this added onto the front page if anyone is interested in joining us? If you book ahead of time directly with the company you receive a discount. The Dolphin Royal Swim is for adults & children age 8+. ($149.00 adult) ($129.00 child) For the two of us, the total would be 278.00- discount= 208.00 US There are 4 shows as possibilities: 10am, noon, 2pm, 4pm. Since the ship leaves at 3:45, I don't think the last 2 are good possibilities.

B) Should we have a tour planned for Gibraltar to go up the mountain to see the monkeys or is this over-rated? I have heard the taxis can be expensive and the walk back is long. It could be great exercise though!

C) Can anyone answer this---why is the Midnight Dessert Buffet never advertised but only written in small print on the back of the Navigator and only heard word of mouth from the Head Server at dinnertime/host/hostesses or other passengers. I find many people do not know about the buffet, and just curious to know why this is not advertised on the front or inside the navigator.

D) Villian Night---what are others bringing as a costume in purple & black? I am curious, although not even sure I will have space in our luggage.

E) Here's something I do that has worked for us as a family on the past cruises after attempting to use the washing machine. I handwash everything as soon as it becomes soiled. I bring detergent, Oxyclean or another stain remover in liquid + an empty spray bottle from the $ store and spray anything that gets dirty, spotted, etc let the remover presoak, and then wash---rinse, and then hang to dry. I find the clothes dry by the next day. I know it sounds crazy but I just don't have the patience to wait for an available machine and to wait for it to be completed. If you wash as you along you always have clean clothes, and also, there is never an extra odor in the room.

F) Does anyone know where I can buy plastic oversized clothes pins?

Thanks!

Hello
I have just spent the last 2 days reading your past threads 2010 to catch up and acquaint myself. We booked this WBTA while on the EBTA in May 2011, but confirmed it a few days ago, making sure we could swing it with vacation dates.
I will be traveling with my DD (8), while DH is unavailable. For this reason we were uncertain until a few days ago if we should go or not.

Our EBTA was amazing and can only remind myself to not expect as great weather and experiences, but would love it if it is just as wonderful.

Welcome!!! We are Liz & Joe and we did the EBTA last year. We loved the EBTA, but actually I think this will be better because we get all of the yucky flying and baggage weight issues done on the first leg of the trip, so coming home will be much more relaxing. Also, we don't LOSE an hour every night, we gain one, so we'll be better rested. I will not miss setting the clock back an hour every sea day!!!!

Hi Taina! So glad you are joining this cruise. Also, I am so pleased that Evelyn has found a roommate, that is just awesome! :woohoo:

There is someon on this thread who is going to London before the cruise, though I can't seem to remember who. I know it is a guy and I believe he is traveling solo also. I looked back into the thread and tried to do a search but just couldn't find out who it was - the search function on threads kind of stinks, I did a search for London and didn't find a thing, though I know we talked about London in the thread. :confused3 Also Lynne might have it in her recap - she posted some lovely photos of the Tower Bridge.

So guys, if you're doing a pre-cruise stay in London, speak up!!! I know we've talked about it ;)

It is Josh, giraffe104 that is going to be in London for a day or two before the cruise. :thumbsup2

You need to ask Karen (karentan) as she is the thread person. I believe she has a few spots left for posting. I will add it to the Welcome Wagon post.

B) Should we have a tour planned for Gibraltar to go up the mountain to see the monkeys or is this over-rated? I have heard the taxis can be expensive and the walk back is long. It could be great exercise though!

Not a clue!

D) Villian Night---what are others bringing as a costume in purple & black? I am curious, although not even sure I will have space in our luggage.

I have a purple dress and DH has a purple shirt. One woman on our last cruise used her red formal dress into a Queen of Hearts outfit

Great tips!

Nancy:hippie::cutie:

I got some at Walmart here in the San Francisco Bay area.

Thank you for your answers.

Something I would like to share to anyone using the smaller european airlines like Ryanair, Easyjet, Vuelling, etc....check just before you leave if the carryon regulations have changed. I made the mistake in this past May to not do so,and missed Easyjet's new rule of only 1 item as carry-on. The rule had changed a few weeks prior to my travel. I had one roller carryon (stuffed to capacity) and a purse, while my DD carried a sandbucket full of sandwiches, toys, etc and one rollerbag. Well---we could not stuff our purse & bucket into the rollerbag and were charged 50 euros for each=100 euros. I told the lady I will not pay this price, and she radioed cargo to take my luggage off the plane. I ended up paying and boarded the plane.

Then AirTransat from Paris to Toronto weighed my carry-on, and charged me 380 euros (saying that they were doing me a favor---should have been more) as extra weight. When I boarded, the flight attendant complained that the adjusted new 10 kg carryon was too heavy for her. (good thing she didn't lift my previously packed carryon--too many books which I had to take out and shift into a new bag)

Be cautious when paying less for an airfare, because the baggage rules are very very particular.

As for passports---make sure you give the passports for someone else in the family to carry as you travel in Barcelona. If you are traveling solo or as the solo adult with child(ren) place your passports out of your purse, someplace where your money & cards are not---spread it elsewhere, and have a photocopy of your passports in your luggage. A family last year were left at the port in Barcelona because the passports were stolen, along with all the cash and jewellery in a purse. The family of 4 was not allowed to board, and joined the ship 2 ports later. Use common sense.

Kevin & I are looking to rent a car at Port Canaveral and drop it at WDW. If anyone can recommend one rental company over another, I'd be happy to hear it.

Thanks,
Karen

We thought about buying a ready made one but Hazel is quite crafty soshe wanted to have a go at making it herself. We were at a car boot sale a couple of weeks ago and on a table we saw a black wall hanging with 3 pink pockets. Anyone would've thought we had won the lottery we were so excited!

That gave us a base to get going on so now Hazel has covered all the pockets and has started to accessorise it. Will post photo when she has finished.
Sounds perfect...looking forward to seeing the finished product.

:thumbsup2

Easyjet are well known for being like this. There used to be a TV programme all about them here in the UK, the amount of unhappy customers that they had was unbelievable. We are flying with them as they are the only company that fly's direct from our local airport to BCN.

Lionessa, if you pm me with the wording you want on the front page and I'll put it on there.

Karen, we're using dollar, they were the cheapest, we're going to get the free shuttle to the rental place then drive to WDW

First up; welcome to all the newcomers! :thumbsup2

Linda; welcome back home! It might look like a long time until the end of September, but it'll be there before you know it. Esp. with all the prepping for the cruise. :goodvibes

Noel, what's up with the swapping of staterooms? Couldn't realy make up your minds?

Bags are packed again, alarm is set for 3.30 am  , having own nurse there has been taken care off. All set to go. Have to say, I'll be beyond glad to get this over with. :headache:

candy swap bulletin
Since my last "bulletin" some have also expressed desire for a small group of max 10 staterooms, which I'm happy to make happen. So at the moment we've got 3 limits; max. at 10, max. at 20 and no max. Any other preferences? You will need to let me know by PM or otherwise I'll automatically assign you in the "no max" group. At the moment we're at 19 staterooms.

Also please don't swamp me with PM's from now until I get back home. There still is some room in my box, but not for getting swamped like some of the days on here with you guys have been. ;)

Got a call from DCL asking if we would be willing to swap room so I asked for our old room back. Evidently a family wanted a side-by-side room so for a bit more we got our original room back.
