Always looking for new low-carb recipes - i've lost 55 pounds low carbing and would like to lose another 55. My strategy when we eat out is to allow myself 3 bites of my dh's dessert if it's special, or ONE Lindt ball after lunch, if I've been good. It seems to keep my cravings in check.

We're going on the 3rd year of low carb eating and while my weightloss has stalled lately, I'm off blood pressure med, off diabetes med, and off two asthma meds - which is HUGE - not only for health, but for the wallet!

I'd try Zumba, if there was a class on the ship. Don't mind so much looking foolish in front of total strangers,

You've done fantastically well - that's a great loss!

I still have my cheats, but I once read something by a Dr Heller who practiced a type of low-carbing called "Hellering"... if you were going to "cheat" on a low carb way of eating, try to ensure that the cheating is done within a 60 minute time frame. Meaning, do what you're doing - have a small amount, then quit. But don't have a half piece of toast, then a few hours later have a piece of cake, then after dinner have something else. Do your damage within a tiny time frame and you help control your blood glucose levels from spiking too much. So I "heller" once and a while and it keeps me right.

Don't you love the stinkeye you get when you have bacon, cream, pork belly and half a pound of cheese in your shopping basket? People think I'm stark raving mad.

Who cares - I'm healthy and skinny! (well, not skinny exactly, but a whole lot smaller than I was!)

Here's my current low-carb favourite:

Crispy Coconut Chicken

1 C. dessicated coconut
1 Tablespoon Splenda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 1/2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breast halves, cut into 1-inch strips
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/3 C. butter or margarine, melted

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix coconut, salt, pepper, splenda (if desired) and garlic powder in medium bowl. Dip chicken strips into egg, then coat with coconut mixture.

Deep fry in hot oil until golden and crispy. Or, place in a shallow baking pan. Drizzle with melted butter. Bake 25 minutes or until chicken is browned and cooked through, turning once.

Makes about 2 dozen.

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! THere's very little carb in shredded (dessicated) coconut, providing you get the non-sweetened variety. I dip it in soy sauce and it's probably my favourite thing right now :lovestruc

I've never heard of this Duke of Edinburgh award (not surprising, no "Dukes" in Texas but old dogs) but trekking around with a map for 8--10 miles a day sounds like a real adventure and accomplishment! I understand your sadness and you have my sympathy.

What's the riverdance crew? Is this brought on by Bailey's and coffee (dis-inhibition and caffeine can be dangerous  )

Yes I do feel very proud of my DD, because she's a big girl so it will be extra hard for her, But feel happy now because I know she's arrived after a seven hour journey, and after orientation tomorrow they will be let loose.

The riverdance... has been explained so well by Tod & Copper

Today is a great day! I put an item on eBay Monday and it sold today  It was my first eBay venture so I'm excited.

 I hope everything goes well for your DD. It sounds like a wonderful experience.

Congratulations on your first ebay sale.... I have loads of stuff to sell but never get around to it, I buy lots.... so you have spurred me on, don't know why I keep putting it off

Thank you re my DD

Re the Tea - I like my tea very strong and I find that Twinings is too weak for me and I like my tea tasting of tea

Have you ever had Assam tea, it's one of my favourites and nice and strong

Ooh it was blinking fereezing at Xmas.........still had a Dole Whip though :lovestruc I made a school boy error though and didn't buy it from the Hawaaii counter  I WON'T be making that mistake again :wizard:

Besides Aloha Isles and the Polynesian Resort, where else do they serve Dole Whip at WDW?

...I usually do Walmart too but in February we went to Publix which made a nice change. :)

Just back from Wednesday Senior Discount Day at Publix. Got 2 British Mars bar while I was there - but they still taste better when eaten in England or Africa.

...The nearest supermarket to me is a 20 minute drive.....unless I go to Waitrose which is a 10 minute drive but very overpriced!
not quite but i only live about five mins drive away from asda...
...Takes me a good 30 mins to drive to Asda, although we have a local tesco that doesn't have a fantastic selection and is so overpriced....

Okay, my brother loves Waitrose. I'm more of a Tesco girl, don't like Sainsbury's, and I find it funny that you guys shop at Asda (since Americans make fun of people who shop at Wal-Mart - even though so many of us do).

I wish we had a Waitrose so I could have a card, pick up the scanner and pack my grocery bags as I walked around the store. You British are so much ahead of us in electronic things. (They've got this same system on Cape Cod in MA, too.)

Me too. Always take my Clipper tea bags to WDW with me. Although I find there that the milk never tastes quite the same. But don't function in the morning until I've had at least 2 nice cuppas:surfweb:

Yes, British (and New Zealand) milks are far superior to our American. Some of my nieces are big fans of the gold-top milk and its high fat content; another one has to have skim milk. Anyway, cheese, yogurt, milk - all great reasons to self-cater your holiday when in the UK. Who would ever have thought British food could be superior? :goodvibes

Last year we had American milk on the EBTA and then changed over to milk from Luxembourg on the first Med cruise. Imagine we'll have European milk on this cruise.

Which means the chocolate milk will not be American style. The Luxembourg chocolate milk was very cocoa-y, not chocolate-sweet like what we get here. If you've got a kid who has to have American chocolate milk, grab some Hershey's syrup from the ice cream station on Deck 9 next to Goofy's Galley and bring it to your meals.

...But I like the earl grey and herbal one we called rooibos(I don't know it in English)...

It's rooibos in English, too :goodvibes. Heard it called it bush tea (in the book series No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency) or redbush tea. Probably an Afrikaaner word - yep, just checked it out on Wikipedia (I guess we can trust the info).

that sounds lush..... I'm going to give that a try. I don't do low carb, but am sure if I use spray light it should work just as well. Thanks

margaret

Karen if you wouldn't mind checking that it is hard water tea bags and pick up a box for me today that would be great. I can let you know my address etc for posting.:lovestruc

I :love::love: Tea and drink WAY too much of it!!! I don't think the kettle every truly cools down in our house. So 2 weeks without decent tea is almost too much to bear. Last year I took my own tea bags, but the water onboard isn't ideal for tea. This year I might grab a BIG bottle of mineral water from Morrisons and pack my travel kettle.

Drastic I know but tea is key to my existence :rotfl:

Margaret

Fortnum and Mason do a lovely blend called 'Assam superb' it's probably my favourite blend of any tea, also Twinings everyday is lovely too.

I know I'm a tea snob.... But I generally drink PG tips or Tetley LOL

I do like Waitrose but it is so expensive to do your regular weekly shop, I just pop in for the odd bits here & there. :)

I don't like Asda, I don't like their fresh food - meats etc. I usually shop in Sainsburys or Tesco's whichever one i'm nearest to that day.

I always have either PG tips or Tetley. :thumbsup2

Just popped in quickly to let you know that my lovely moggie Tink had 2 kittens tonight :lovestruc :cloud9:

I think she's still got some more in there :wizard:

I just had to tell you guys as I'm soooo excited :woohoo:

Thanks will call TA in morning if I can't get on it by then. Just very frustrating.
Colette

Have you tried removing cookies, internethistory etc. ? After that you'ld need to close and reopen your browser first for it to work totally "clean". This could do the trick. It's been a wellknown cause for problem with the older system. And with seeing so many error-reports on this rollcall while I can log in with no problems at the same time sure does make it look like it could be the cause again.

I think you're getting dragged along Jacqueline whether you like it or not!

I should've expected it with this bunch of people. :lmao: But no need to work up a sweat that way. I don't care if I'ld have to cruise with bed and all, I'll do it. Actually, I'm bringing along half of said bed anyway on this cruise. Such a small problem isn't something that could hold me back. Just aren't going to jinx it by making any statements that me cruising is a 100% fact. I'ld much rather jinx the cruise by saying there is no way that we'ld have to stay aboard much longer than the planned 14 nights. :rolleyes1:goodvibes

Congrats on the grandkitties, Mel! And good luck with the surprise of tomorrow and what the nest will end up bringing you. My parents dog was part of such a surprising nest.

I love that! Let's hope that we don't have to stay onboard for longer than 14 nights....it would be the worst thing in the world! ;)

Hello All,

With all the talk of Morrisons, I have a question:

Would it be better to wait and purchase our liquor in Gibraltar from Morrisons or buy it at the port in Barcelona?

If Morrisons is better, then I will only buy Spanish wine from Barcelona and wait for the hard stuff.

Thanks,

Please wait for multiple responses but I believe there is some question as to if Morrisons will be open on the date we are in port. In 2007 we used the store at the terminal in Barcelona and were impressed with both selection and price.
