Kimmel Cancelled......... Terrifying Not Funny!

No he got pulled because, between Nextstar and Sinclair, Disney has been informed before the announcement that 70 of their affiliates were dropping the show. Disney’s market had spoken and they were going to lose more money at the time slot by keeping him on the air than they would paying him to stay home.

Some principles should be worth losing a little temporary money for. Greedy cowards.

It's...insanity. Pure insanity. What did he even say that was so bad? He was one of the first to condemn the killing. He did not diparage the victim, only way some have reacted to it. Is it a freedom of speech issue - that's not clear, but there are definitely concerns. Is it a corruption issue with a government demanding coopreation to approve business mergers, etc. Yes, 100%. It is outrageous and I have never been more disappointed in Disney than at this moment.

FCC chair Brendan Carr made it clear that Kimmel’s commentary put their multi-billion dollar merger and broadcasting license at risk: this is the absolute definition of a First Amendment issue if the US Constitution and constitutional precedence still have any meaning in the USA.

Ok, well if that is the case then it likely would be a constitutional issue. Normally a private company firing an employee for in air statements would not be.

It is easy for people on the right to say Disney should have took a stand for Carano and easy for people on the left to say they should have took a stand for Kimmel. It is easy for them to say that because it isn’t their money and their job on the line.

Sorry let me clarify, i watched colbert occasionally.
My mom lives with me and she watches it in morning and i see it in background getting ready for work..

My point is his comments were a Big Nothing!
In this world we live in now to see Kimmel canceled, IMO pathetic and terrifying simultaneously

I saw that Kimmel's show had been pulled indefinitely due to his comments on Charlie Kirk's murder but I didn't see what he actually said.

Regardless, this is NOT a freedom of speech issue. The first amendment grants you the right to freedom of speech without government interference. Disney/ABC is not the government. They are a private company who has the right to dismiss an employee who's values do not align with theirs.
Had he been arrested due to his statements THAT would be a freedom of speech issue.

So many people do not understand this.

The head of the FCC- a government agency applied pressure. It’s a violation of first amendment.

And people on the right made the same claim about what Carano did. I didn’t find what either did offensive. That doesn’t matter. They both should have known they were playing with fire. They have an employer that has a fiduciary duty to look out for the best interests of the stockholders. They got burned. It is the way it goes sometimes.

Disney may be trying to smooth things over with Nexstar first, though that's just speculation. We will see I guess. The whole thing is just so crazy though - I am shocked to be living in these times.

Don’t forget that Kimmel also had a similar controversy where he threatened to destroy Detroit over the Lakers losing the NBA Finals in 2004. WXYZ, the local ABC station preempted the show, then eventually the network did the same to all affiliates. I know the circumstances are different but eventually we have to move on from gaffes like this.

Exactly. Not fired, but sidelined. They have determined at this point they will lose less money paying him to sit at home than it would cost them to produce the show for a much smaller possible audience.
