'Scuse me whilest I stand on a (small) Disney Soapbox for jest a minute...

I do not understand this thinking. If you are stealing shampoo from housekeeping, yes, that is a problem. This can still be done with the large bottles. But when you book a night in a hotel, you are paying for a night’s worth of products. (Unless the industry changes, which it seems they are trying to do with cost cutting). If you use the products at the hotel or take them home, who cares? Disney is just trying to appeal to the “carbon” lobby, which is huge, and if they can do it and save costs, bonus for them, literally.
The issue for me is not the people who take home what's left at the end of their stay, even if it's more than one bottle. It's hiding the supplies they already have with the intention of having housekeeping leave more than normal so the guest can take home many extras - substantially more than "a night's worth of products." As an owner whose MFs pay for those supplies, I do mind subsidizing other people's gift giving.

Well maybe there are some like us. We never accept housekeeping. I bring my own soap, shampoo... so I never use any of Disneys. The last few years we have had several trips (1 bedroom and even once was a 2 bedroom) for almost 2 weeks, yet we have had 1 roll of toilet paper and 1 roll of paper towels left for us when we enter the room. I never quite understood that one. The people that book 1 night get the same as the people who are staying a dozen.

Nah, bottom line and bonuses are the reason.

And, to be fair, ecological impact. Little plastic shampoo bottles in hotels add tons of waste to the waste stream every year. They don't get recycled. Dispensers can be refilled from much more ecologically sound plastic bags - or even cardboard cartons. Dispensers were a simple change that saves Disney a ton of money and lowers their footprint.

I agree Disney toiletries are terrible, and no bathrobes! Can you even imagine spending $750 for a Poly room like that? I also find Disney mattresses and bedding to be below the standard for rooms of this price, but I have accepted that and bought in knowing that.

My solution was Owner's Locker. Best $100 I spent. Though apparently VGF did have bathrobes, pre-Covid.

No more bathrobes? oooooohhh - that sounds like they didn't necessarily change them if they did not appear to have been used previously. Otherwise no reason to not have them but to still provide towels and washcloths. :rolleyes2

You would think that any "deluxe" property would have bathrobes, like a $750 Poly room. But no. No DVC property had them except VGF, which has them on both cash and DVC side. Not right now for Covid, but they used to.

VGC had them. I think Aulani might have too?

But you notice Disney still sells all those big plastic balloons...:rolleyes1
Just say'n, they're conservationists where it serves them and not when it doesn't $$$$$

Riviera is still for sale as is Aulani. Give it time. Well, maybe not Aulani. I think it will still be in original sales when we're all gone.
So, any guesses as to why Aulani sales are slow? Do you think it is really just because there is no Disney park associated with the resort? I would've thought Hawaii would've sold well to West Coasters, and to the Asian market. I don't own there, but I'd like to go sometime, I haven't been to Hawaii since 1976.

Didn't jim (little "j") bet heavily on the Japanese market and then their economy tanked just after it went up for sale? Seems like I remember that for some reason.

For me, I think it's silly to own my 11 month window at a resort I may visit once or twice during my ownership if I'm lucky. I suspect a lot of main continent Americans feel exactly the same way. It's not like there's a shortage of rooms most of the year.

Japan had a disaster happen just after Aulani opened and I too think they were counting on lots of buyers there. But really the only place they really even bring up Aulani seems to be at Aulani. Hard to sell if you never try. It's gone thru some growing pains and was developed a bit to much like the DVC next to theme parks but overall we feel it's the most complete resort DVC has done. They just barely try and sell it though.

So, I agree. More so wish they would go back to the several boxes of laundry soap and the name brand not the crap they have now. Also wish they would load up on the coffee packs. There is usually enough bar soaps for us though. In our 1BR with 2 part bathroom they usually have 2 or 3 bars (one facial soap and 2 bathing...no? Plus with the body wash we can use too.

But to be the party pooper of this thread...it is a home away from home. Not a hotel. So we should be bringing our own. Like any other VRBO condo rental or timeshare, they supply you with enough for 1 night until you have time to get to the store. We are arriving today and I have my own laundry soap, coffee, shampoo and conditioner. Even have bar soap, TP and paper towels, dish soap, kleenex clorox wipes and trash bags. But not for our 4 days in a 1BR at WDW...for the VRBO 10 day rental afterwards.
Ecos is actually a name brand and not cheap. It’s natural/environmentally friendly sans allergens etc.

Is ECOS the laundry detergent they are using now? The last time I went, in December 2019, there was an "environmentally friendly" powder in the room, but looking on the internet, ECOS seems to be a liquid. The powder did clean OK.

Yes, we had 2 small bottles of the liquid ECOS left for us.

I have found that price and quality have nothing to do with each other in most cases. In this case, if dvc is paying a premium for this garbage, they are catering to the carbon lobby on my dime for an inferior product which really annoys me.

It wouldn't be unheard of for a company to give a greatly reduced price on a product (or free) in order to gain exposure. A marketing expense for them.

First time renting DVC on my upcoming trip. Staying in a 2BR at Kidani - sounds like it would be best if we bring our own toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap, laundry detergent, dryer sheets, etc.)?
