'Scuse me whilest I stand on a (small) Disney Soapbox for jest a minute...

First time renting DVC on my upcoming trip. Staying in a 2BR at Kidani - sounds like it would be best if we bring our own toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap, laundry detergent, dryer sheets, etc.)?

I really like the H2O toiletry products. I will go to Dollar Tree and pick up a travel size laundry detergent, though. To my knowledge, Disney has never supplied dryer sheets of any kind. But I don't use them due to fabric softener allergies.

If you have a great preference for something then sure but otherwise you'll be provided with them the same as any Disney hotel.

I didn't think the laundry or dishwasher detergent worked all that well, but the biggest issue I had with those is they looked so similar. It's really easy to get those mixed up.

Next time, bringing my own laundry and dishwasher pods in checked luggage - problem solved.

I'm a little confused as the dishwasher detergent is in a packet and left in the kitchen and the laundry detergent is in a box and left on the washer. How did they get mixed up?

Everything was left in the kitchen in our unit. It kinda doesn't matter - not a fan of either product.

I don't mind bringing my own supplies to last the entire time we're there. More room for new "ears"!

I have found that price and quality have nothing to do with each other in most cases. In this case, if dvc is paying a premium for this garbage, they are catering to the carbon lobby on my dime for an inferior product which really annoys me.
I actually pay $14 for a large bottle of it because it works really well and doesn't have chemicals that can cause allergies. So its not an inferior product, in fact, I consider it a substantial upgrade from the powders formerly there. Its made here in the greater Seattle area where it is well known and stocked at Costcos even. The more you know...

The laundry detergent is liquid now. Not a powder in a box. A single bottle is supposed to do two loads. The dishwashing detergent, not the dishwasher detergent is similar.

Nice to hear. It's changed often enough and even between resorts that I really never know what we'll find when we get into the room. The laundry room soap dispensers have always been powder and I wish they'd be liquid although it's rare when I've had to purchase from them.

So, any guesses as to why Aulani sales are slow? Do you think it is really just because there is no Disney park associated with the resort? I would've thought Hawaii would've sold well to West Coasters, and to the Asian market. I don't own there, but I'd like to go sometime, I haven't been to Hawaii since 1976.

I’m a west coaster and I looove hawaii-we go for a week or two every couple years (it’s an easier trip than getting to Orlando). However, we don’t love Oahu-fun to visit once and I’m sure we’ll eventually go to aulani but I can relax for two weeks on Maui, which we love, for a much more reasonable price.

Didn't jim (little "j") bet heavily on the Japanese market and then their economy tanked just after it went up for sale? Seems like I remember that for some reason.

For me, I think it's silly to own my 11 month window at a resort I may visit once or twice during my ownership if I'm lucky. I suspect a lot of main continent Americans feel exactly the same way. It's not like there's a shortage of rooms most of the year.
Yes Jim was counting on a the Japanese market and they had the earthquake and tsunami.

For the last few year, on arrival day when we would have groceries delivered, we would also buy a ton of papergoods, soaps, cleaners, LARGE trashbags, etc. Pretty much all the consumables.

I am aware I should not have too. But I found years ago that asking for a resupply every day was a hassle. I have a big family (10-12) and being out of any of those things can bring a carefully planned itinerary down to a screeching halt.

Just got back from OKW studio. We had two extra rolls of shoebox tissue in the bathroom cabinet and an almost new roll on the spindle. On our day 4 trash and towel, they replaced the partial roll on the spindle and put the new one on BACKWARDS (hanging under instead of over) and didn't unroll the first sheet (it was still stuck to the roll) and fold it in a nice little triangle. When you need it and you can't reach it or unroll it, it's really annoying. I did change out the hang. The paper is so thin (even being double ply) you could use a single roll for a week or two before needing more.

The issue for me is not the people who take home what's left at the end of their stay, even if it's more than one bottle. It's hiding the supplies they already have with the intention of having housekeeping leave more than normal so the guest can take home many extras - substantially more than "a night's worth of products." As an owner whose MFs pay for those supplies, I do mind subsidizing other people's gift giving.

if only Disney like other luxury hotels would offer those items for sale. Like robes and towels there is a note if you like these items please let the desk know and we will provide you with brand new ones at checkout for a nominal fee.

with Disney Management’s raging greed It alway baffled me why the would not things like sell the stuff people steal from hotel rooms. Lots of luxury hotels and resorts do this and its a nice source of income that otherwise would be a loss.

They do sell the H2O products in the gift stores - large bottles for even larger prices. I’m sure they sell, but not to me!

Belive me I know DW has bought many bottles both in person and online she has sensitive skin and these products agreed with her skin.
