Running for Freedom(of the Seas) The Journey Begins Today!(Comments Welcome)

Oh how I hate when DH gets sick.

"Comfort food" is all he wants-ie mcdonalds, subs, chinese any kind of take out. Friday he stayed home, wanted McD's for lunch. I got a salad with grilled chicken. Then for dinner he and DD wanted KFC. I was so hungry I got the stupid bowl thing (which was really good) but not good for me.

Saturday we went to the auto show with FIL, got Subway on the way home. I had the oven roasted chicken, so not too bad. Then DH wanted ice cream. I had some, but it did not sit well with me at all.

Up early this morning, but not running until 8 am as that was what my inlaws wanted to do. I would have gone at 7, since I was up.

We ran a REALLY fast 6 miles, 1:04:50, 10:48 pace. Now I am off to do a school project with DD.

No chicken noodle soup? Wow, that's some kind of cold craving fast food! Must be the carb thing that colds crave.

In this week'd rag of a magazine, Woman's World, there is actually a page for you; it's how to diet using fast food restaurants. I had to laugh when I read it and actually picked it up to use with my modern-day muckraking lessons using "Super Size Me" for Thursday and Friday thinking it would be ironic how we are such a fast food nation that there are diet plans based on fast food. But, you may actually be onto something here...feed the craving, cure the cold, and lose weight all at the same time.

Good pace on the run - you are going to do well on the race as you are prepareing well.

Laurie

Didn't realize I hadn't posted in so long!!

Crazy week this week with DD off school Weds, Thurs and Fri. DH is still on the eating out bandwagon, I am doing slightly better. Got my running in during the week, even got to run outside on Thurs am. One of my best runs yet. 3 miles in 31:42, it felt like someone had their hand on my back and was pushing me the whole way.

Was supposed to run 8 miles today, but woke up to moderate rain, so not today. Tonight DD has a sleepover for her birthday, so I will be up half the night with 6 10 year olds. So probably no running tomorrow either. But Monday I will get back to short runs, and be right back on track.

Good morning Veronica! Sounds like things are going well. Do you mean your DH likes to eat out alot? I have the same thing here.Once in a while is OK but the sodium alone starts to kill me.I can truly feel the difference when I have had too much- even the salads are loaded.

I need to run just to sweat off the sodium.I find it very hard to limit sodium, I don't use a shaker but it is in everything.A can of soup- great for the diet but has a day supply in it.

Too bad about your LR today.Maybe you could sneak it in tomorrow, it is supposed to be beautiful.

Linda

Linda-when DH is sick all he wants to do is eat out. I try to indulge him for a short while, but now we are dragging on, and it is getting tired.

No long run for me-yesterdays 8 miler was cancelled due to rain. If it had been a drizzle I would have gone out, but it was really raining. And after staying up until 3am with the kids for the sleepover for DD's birthday, I was in no condition to run today, though the weather was beautiful for it.

This week I am going to run short runs every day to make up some of the mileage. All treadmill work, unfortunately, but I am finding it is helping with my speed.

Back on the food plan too-I will be strictly counting WW points this week.

Ran 3 miles in 31:59 today, was nice out except for the wind.

Got a 9 miler this Sunday, hoping the weather is good.

Next week is Turkey Trot, hoping to finish in under 33 minutes, pretty sure I can do it. (Its a 5k)

Glad the weather cooperated for your run and I'll keep my fingers crossed for Sunday! We've had nothing but nasty, windy, pounding rain and hail storms all week long on the West Coast. I'm so tired of wintry weather I'm ready to join the birds and fly south.

I hope the colds/flu have left your household--it's hard enough to stay on track with healthy foods during this time of year without the comfort food cravings.

Best of weekends to you,
Laurie

Todays 9 miler was awesome!! Slow, but consistent, finishing in 1:52. Felt good the whole time, it went well.

Weight was down to 174.6 today, that is down 3 lbs from last week. Was hoping to be at 170 by thanksgiving, don't know that that will happen.

Ran the Turkey Trot today, my best 5k time yet.

32:33, which is 1:15 better than last years race. And this year they changed the course, adding a whopper hill at mile 2. Lots of fun, record turnout (4600 runners)

Dinner was good, we cooked this year again. I tried to not overindulge, think I did okay. Now I am ready for a nap.

Congratulations on bettering your time (even with a monster hill)! Also kudos for keeping the Thanksgiving meal under control...you deserve the nap.

Laurie

7 mile run this morning, a bit sluggish but finished in 1:22. WEight was back up to 177, I know I am dehydrated as I have not been drinking nearly enough water. I have such trouble on the weekends, but during the week at work I have no problem getting all the water in.

5 weeks until vacation-hoping I can get down to the 160's by then. It would help a lot with clothes, though all my shorts from last trip fit with room to spare:). I have three pair of capri pants that work and my jeans and capri length workout pains too. I would like to get a pair of dress pants so I may look for those. BAthing suits still fit, which is good, cause its really hard to find those this time of year.

Looking forward to shoe shopping on Friday for new running shoes. Mine are starting to tell me that its time for new ones.

Veronica:

I'm so the opposite with the water intake - weekends I'm fine, during the week I can't get enough in me during the day (can't exactly run down the hall to the ladies when I'd like too...) But I know that when I get my water down, I lose weight.

I saw that marathon on the BL last night and though about you running a half marathon...wow! I can't even fathom doing that myself. I'm so impressed that you're going to actually do it.

I don't know if you have Eddie Bauer Outlets close by, but they still had a large selection of summer weight slacks and skirts at the one near us. The prices were good too--I'm just too stingy to buy stuff that is tight in the waist still, but baggy in the britches. :)

take care,
Laurie

I went online and got our bib#'s and waivers for the Disney Half. It is just sooo exciting to me. Even if we are in the last corral, I don't care. Just to be doing this is my goal.

Went to Fleet Feet today to get new running shoes. My guy says I will only sell you what you are already wearing, not changing shoes 5 weeks before the half, not enough time to trouble shoot should you have a problem. Like I said on FB, good running shoes are like chocolate, they just make you feel soooo good.:goodvibes

Tomorrow is DD's first 5k for her Girls on the Run program. It is the Reindeer Run and while I do not expect her to run the whole time, I am going to pace her/push just a bit to keep her moving. I am very proud of her and hope that she enjoys it.

This Sunday is a 9 miler, and it will be MIL's last. She has to have surgery on her hand on Monday (pins needed to fix her thumb she broke playing tennis). So for our longest runs, it will be just FIL and I. But that is okay too. We have been super lucky (and hope it continues) with the weather, beautiful day today, upper 40's and lots of sun. Supposed to cool down tomorrow, but as long as the ice and snow hold off, its all good.

DH is cracking down on the diet/food thing. He is really discouraged about his weight. I am going to look into the lap band for him, it really may be a good option for him. I may pop over to the guys thread (razor man???:confused3) about his lap band journey and ask some questions. When we get back from vacation, I may encourage (read: drag) DH to see his dr. about it.

As for me and my weight, I am really just trying to maintain between now and the trip, any loss is bonus. Once we are back, I am going to ease up on the running, do more weights and maybe some classes like Zumba. I really dislike running on the treadmill, so once spring comes I will be back out on the road running. During the winter is a good time to cross train, try something new. Hey maybe I'll even get back on the elliptical (machine of death and torture that it is:lmao:).

My goal for after the Disney half is to be to goal weight by 11/18/10, which is my 40th bday. So depending on where I am post vacation, I will need to lose around 50-55 lbs in 10 months. Very doable. I am also seriously thinking about a full marathon at some point in my future, but am holding off on that for now. I am definately doing the Marine Corps half in October, may throw some 10k's in here and there.

You've set some good goals for yourself and thus far it looks like you're well on your way to meeting them getting ready for this half marathon.

My dad and I both looked into the lapband; me out of frustration and since I wasn't 100 over, it wasn't an option for me according to the criteria. My dad is well over the 100 mark, but would have had to lose nearly 50 before they would do the surgery and he hasn't done it. My mom's still trying to convince him to try what I'm doing (HCG) and since my sis' DH has now lost 40 on it faster than I did, it is looking pretty good to her (not to dad). I know he wants to see if I can maintain the loss after I'm off plan (I want to find that out too.)

I hope your DD enjoys her 5K, it should be enjoyable to run with her.

have the best of weekends!
Laurie

Well the weather finally caught up with us.:headache:

The "little flurries" on Sat turned into 3 inches of snow on the ground. So when the night came and temps dipped, all the slushy stuff froze. And the trail we run does not get treated or snow removal, so our 9 miler was out for yesterday. Since I had run (kind of) on Saturday, I wasn't devastated about not running yesterday. However I am going to run every day this week to make up the mileage.

Saturday morning was okay weather wise for DD's first 5k. There were a lot of girls there for the Girls on the Run program, probably about 50 or so. There did not seem to be a lot of other runners however. The course was nice, start at the bottom of a moderate hill, then downhill and flat the rest of the way. Only 3 turns. Definately a course you could PR. Unfortunately, DD decided to hang out with two girls who a)wore ugg boots to the race:confused3 and b) were both asthmatic, so a lot of running was out. They ran bits and then walked. Since I was the grown up with the three of them, I really couldn't go anywhere. But that was okay. DD finished in 49:20, not bad considering she had never done the distance before and only had 8 weeks of once a week training. I am very proud of her.

DH has decided to do a modified nutri system-basically eating lean cuisine or smart ones for lunch and dinner and slim fast for breakfast. He is hoping to drop 10-15 lbs by our trip. I am doing it too, makes life easier if we do the same thing. I am still going to have him look into the lap band, he needs to lose about 125 lbs at this point.

Can I just tell you that I hate the treadmill?? Like soooo hate that plasted thing. I just don't like running on it anymore. I have run each morning this week, making up the miles we lost on Sunday.

Today we had a monster storm, dumped about 6 inches of snow on us. Dad and I are trying to decide where we will be able to run this Sunday, since the path we run on won't be clear. Gotta do 10 miles this week.

Food seems to be going well, DH has managed to stay "on plan" and I am doing okay as well. We shall see how much weight can be lost in the next 30 days.

Sorry the weather isn't cooperating and you're stuck inside running on a moving mat. :sad2: Maybe you could take up cross country skiing instead? or go on snow shoes?

No snow here (Praise the Good Lord) ! I'm quite religious when it comes to praying away the white stuff in the lowlands. No one here can drive in the stuff (or at least most can't--I'm fortunate that my father took me out to learn in a squirrely Camero when I was learning to drive and we ski so I'm used to poor conditions on the roads). It just becomes a giant parking lot from state border to border in Western Washington when a single flake falls. The weatherman is hyping it, but I'm betting for now it won't materialize. (Or at least it better not!)

What you are dealing with is our usual moisture that was supposed to fall here but got pushed up into Canada and over the Rockies and over to you. And you're welcome to it (hopefully you're better prepared for it than we are.) The jet stream is supposed to change this weekend; a warm up here and a return to rain (if it doesn't come down as an ice storm first.) So, hopefully, you weather will moderate too.

Don't slip and break anything! and best wishes on the eating plan.
Laurie

Veronica,
Don't you just love New England???? We came back in the snow.Running was great this morning in 22 degrees.

The treadmill is so boring with anything beyond 3 miles IMO.Good luck.Has training been going OK otherwise? 4 weeks to go- where did that time go?

Linda

So todays 10 miler ended up being only 7.5 miles. It was cold, 18 degrees when we started and only 23 when we finished. We are running on the school campus, so lots of turns and curves. But clear of snow, which is more important.

Weight is back down to 175.4, still hoping to see 169 before we go to Disney, but either way, once I come back, it is time to crack the whip and get down to serious business.

They clear your school grounds of snow!?! really? Our campus is the last place that gets cleared out after inclement weather. Last December's storm lingered on the school grounds until mid-March in the places where the sun doesn't hit. What a difference a coast makes. I'm sure glad they do for you so you have a break from the moving mat. :)

If you want that five lbs to go away, you might just try going protein, veggies, and fresh fruit only for a couple of weeks. (I don't advocate the VLCD thing without the HCG), but you mentioned eating the lean cuisines and I ate them religiously for lunch all last year and actually put on 25 lbs. The sodium levels are off the charts even on the spa type with more veggies. We package up 3.5-4 oz of lean beef or chicken breast with either a small salad or veggie serving for lunches now and it just as easy to take with me as the frozen meals used to be. That extra sodium in the processed meals keep you 3-5 lbs heavier than you really are IMHO.

Best of luck, I'm glad the weather hasn't slowed your training down!
