You can spend 6 mths plannng "the perfect vacation" and still have things go wrong. Here are a few things that didn't go quite the way I planned.
**July 17th-stayed overnight at Philly airport hotel to catch an early flight. Did same thing last year and worked great. I reserved w/cred. card but paid w/travelers cks when we checked in. They insisted on $50 dep. to be refunded at checkout--a little argument, but gave in and wrote out another travel check. Checked out at 4:30AM to catch shuttle over to airport. "Sorry, no bank money in drawer to give you $50 refund (actually only $38 because of $12 movie rental) and "no, the manager doesn't come in until 7.....fill out this complaint form and we'll mail you the money. Fine, but that's less money I have to spend on vac. To self: "Shake it off, don't ruin our vac".
Arrive at airport for 6:50 AM Flight--I get stopped at security and searched. Turns out my roll of wash quarters (last yr, change mach at RPR didn't work) is still in the bottom of my purse and looked suspicious. I had thrown them in at home, meaning to transfer them to a suitcase sometime....oh well. Flight board shows our flight is delayed almost 2 hrs......great, so much for early checkin at 10:15 at RPR......call HappyLimo to let them know not to meet us until later. "Your plane is over at main term. for mech. work and will be headed over here shortly".......ok, so tell me it's late, but DON'T TELL ME ABOUT MECHANICAL TROUBLE!!! Plane rolls over to gate "still having problems" call limo again, they're great, tell me not to worry" Then, after luggage loaded on plane.."passengers move to gate #whatever, we are switching planes" Finally in the air, arrive in Orlando around noon.
**RPR checkin--after confirming and reconfirming weekly since Feb. Club Level 20 nights, poolview if possible for us and mom's stand. kingbed room for the 19 and 20th..."Your room isn't listed as club....and we have nothing available" Helloooo Mr. Manager, look at all the notes, names I have...blah,blah,blah. Ok, choice of one room far, far away at the end of the hall, or poolview til Tues, another room til Thurs. and a third room for remainder. I chose to stay put in one place for the entire time. Room is #3755 and overlooks dogwalk? and distant Luau. Ok, at least we're here.
**Mom stays for 2 nights in her room (by the way SHE got the beautiful poolview!) and manages to loose a pair of pants that match set. Calls me after arriving home. Lost & Found checks inventory but room can't be rechecked until next morning when other people checkout of her old room. Pants never located so I'm hoping they show up somewhere at her house when she gets back from Calif.
**Waking up each morning w/pillows surrounding me on floor, bed, etc. Have brought "snore stop" w/me and dh, but evidently does not work. lol. Good note- Star Services will bring you "non-snore" pillows as well as sound machines. Bad note---neither worked! Oh well, I slept fine
**When planning our vacation, I asked if there were any big conventions there at the same time. "No, only one small one for 3 days." Even RPR staff said they didn't know about the HUGE Youth Convention until the week before we arrived. They were there for the last 5 days of our trip......35,000 throughout Orlando and about 250-300 (4 to room) at RPR. Lack of chaperones and RPR security made it a looooong 5 days around the resort. Not even a quiet place to sit out and have coffee/newspaper. Only saving grace was us being on club level where they couldn't get to.....feel sorry for those guests on regular floors though.
**I am sooooo excited w/ Fan Club card, AAA Card, and pref. AP card.........so WHY CAN'T I remember to use them at restaurants and park shops????!! lol, don't worry, I got the hang of it after 2 or 3 days!
**MIB......ahhh, what could possibly be??? Ds18 had been flirting w/one of the ride attendants a couple of times through. Then on our last day there, she happened to be in the overhead control part of the ride (just up over the steps) Hmmm, ride stops in middle....our car is stuck under the "did you like that? too bad you won't remember any of it" FLASH......again, and again, and again.....about 6 or 7 times before we start moving again. We all sat there w/ heads in laps until exit area.. Coincidence? In two years, the ride never stopped w/us....hhhhmmmmm lol
**"Let's see International Drive" ok, so go-karts are kind of a family tradition and a place called Fun Spot on Int.Dr. has them. Change of pace, let's get trolley tickets for the day! Taxi driver has no idea what Fun Spot is so we settle on being dropped off near Wet n Wild. We see a trolley stop and wait....and wait....and wait. We start walking towards FSpot. It's hot, we stop at a gas stat. and get drinks....and see a trolley go by finally--unfortunately, we are still inside the station ...find another trolley stop and waited and waited......got a trolley finally.......ride about 2 min. and there's the "landmark of Orlando" Fun Spot ferris wheel.....huh? barely could see it from a distance! lol ok, so go karting in the middle of July in Florida was probably NOT the best idea in the world...we decide after about 1 1/2 hrs. to take the trolley the length of Int. Drive. to just look around. Waited just as long the second time except 2 trolleys actually stopped at our "southbound" stop to tell us they were "northbound" and one would be along shortly for us. .....yeah, right.......where's the camera?? Finally....a trolley. AC feels mighty good! Ride to the mall turnaround point and driver says "no, you have to get off and catch another trolley to go back" So we are dumped at the mall.....and wait..and wait........ cont.
