Revival of the angry thread!

I have heard urban legends about some people realy loving thier jobs and working for a great company with a good boss and good pay.
But like I said it was an Urban Legend.

I'm sorry to hear this Deb:hug:....It's just plain WRONG.

What a stinkin' kick in the butt.pirate:

I'm thinking he should use his knowledge and experience and start his own consulting business. I believe there are probably small businesses who could use a telecommunications expert for specific jobs but not for full time hire.

I've suggested that to him. Back in the day when PC's were becoming the thing to have, he had his own business building custom PC's for both business clients and individuals. He did very well with it until people became became computer saavy & the big box stores started selling PC's. I told him there were a gazillion small businesses out there who could use someone with his knowledge & expertise. Most places don't mind paying someone a couple of hundred bucks to advise and occasionally service their telecommunication and computer needs, but don't necessarily need someone full time. I am one of those people. I do not hesitate to call my computer tech anytime I need help - and they charge $125.00/hour. I honestly don't know why he's hesitant about setting up his own shop. I don't think he knows, either. With his current job it would be very easy for him to start building clientele on the side and eventually turn it into full time work. I just need to know the "right thing" to say to gently nudge him in that direction. Any suggestions?

Man.......MALL COP doesnt come out till NEXT Tuesday!!!! I was all hopped up and ready to watch it TONIGHT!!!!

And whats up with BlockBuster not having Seth MacFarlane's new video "Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy" for rent??? They are willing to SELL it, but not rent it? Them and their "family friendly" BS is really starting to vice my gahonas. You guys happy with netflix?

I think it's an EXCELLENT idea...I pay the same thing everytime we have a computer problem. We use a guy that has a company called "Dial a Nerd".. No having to drop it off at Best Buy..and wait for the geek squad, he's here the same day.

As far as what to say to gently nudge him in that direction. :scratchin
I'd try a bottle of wine, and some new lingerie..:confused3WHat?..I'm just sayin'. Okay, probably shouldn't have said that. (he is a man though..and I've found it usually works...just for future reference:rolleyes1)
Seriously, I would tell him just what you said..that he could easily work this around his current job, so it's really a win/win. What could start out as extra money could turn into a full time business venture. He could work his own hours...and it's something you could help him with. Again..I'd probably go with the wine at that point..but that's just me.

Here's what you tell him: In all the years I have worked, the only job security I ever had was when I worked for myself. You could also say you get to take time off whenever you want and all the money you make you get to keep, but that's a load of crap. At any rate, he has nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Tell him that when he gets his business started and bills his first client you'll take the curlers out of your hair and shave your legs.

Hmmm, that's what I get for listening to the Blue Collar Comedy channel on XM all the way out here today. :lmao:

Been a heck of a spring dealing with medical issues on the oldest son again (2 years and counting), found out late Thursday that one of our doctors is very concerned with Justin's lymph nodes in his neck and we are off to the races once again. Phone calls at 7:00 pm last Thursday with results of blood tests, calls to the specialists on Friday off and on, he came off his replacement thyroid meds to get ready for specialized testing in mid-June (full body gamma scan to search for the persistent little cancer cells that keep flaring up). We were just hoping to get him through the rest of his junior year with some sort of normalcy and get his grades in line (he went through tutoring all last summer). Now he will have no energy and feel like he is in a fog for about a month (thyroid controls your metabolism, without it, you have no energy or focus).

At least he has good spirits about it all, is getting really tired now 5 days into withdrawal of the hormone, but still has a sense of humor and has decided to make the most of it despite the pain from some of the enlarged lymph nodes. I pray that this is the last of the challenges and that he gets into a routine of monitoring only in the near future.

Ya'll absolutely have the very best of prayers and well wishes that we have to offer. Altho I've not had the pleasure of meeting Justin and ya'll,,from your posts it is obvious that ya'll are a awesome family support system for each other. My hat is off to Justin and the entire family.
Our prayers are with you.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family and Justin during this trying time. He's one tough kid..and you've been through so much already. Please know we're here for you.

Young jason sounds like a trooper. many prayers for all of you.

I don't have any magic words, but I'm praying for you all Dan.

Thanks - two good signs so far, the CT scan showed potential for sinus infection, so they have started a course of antibiotics to see if that helps (full body scan two weeks from now).

The other good news, he finally decided that if he was going to feel miserable for a few weeks without his thyroid meds, he might as well give up smoking. Something we've been working on for two years (anyone who has raised a teenager knows how hard that can be), and it seems like it will work.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers.

Dan, I'm sending lots of prayers up for Justin and the whole family. He's been through so much for such a young man. Please tell him congrats on quitting smoking!! I remember starting that awful habit as a teenager. July will be 10 years smoke free for me!! I know it's a difficult addiction to quit, but so important for him to do! :grouphug: to all of you!

Dan, so glad to hear that the first round of tests looks promising. I will keep your family in my prayers for sure! Good for him for kicking the smoking habit! If that isn't testament to his will to thrive than I don't know what is!!!! Please keep us informed!!!
