So how does the back up BG work? Appears they are at 93 currently so if you have a BG let’s say 107, will you get a notification if they will let you ride?

To me it seems like having a back-up BG function the exact same as a regular BG - only difference is that if they don't get to you then you get nothing, whereas with the regular BGs if there is a major tech issue and they don't get to you I think you would get some compensation like they did the first few days of a future anytime FP and/or extra park ticket

So by separating the type of BG it reduces the amount of compensation Disney would be exposed to having to give out

Yup!

So far, have we heard reports from people with backup BGs that haven't gotten to ride? (Though I think everyone following along on this thread has been arriving to get a regular BG)

I had anticipated getting to HS by 6 am but that darn alarm didn’t work and when we did get up which was 630am we walked over to skyliner from POP around 7am and the skyliner was down. So we didn’t get to HS until right after 745am and tapped in right before 8am and got boarding group 107. Hoping we will get to ride.

To that end, it could just be a shell game, reducing the number of people per boarding group to make appear as though they are getting through them faster.
On the flip side, break downs haven't been reported the last 2 days that I've seen, so capacity must be better.

Really the only way is to count the people exiting the ride to see just how good its running. At the rate they are going through boarding groups today, if they are 100 people or more in the boarding group, they are least serving 1300 and hour. If the groups are 125 people, then they are hitting the reported attraction capacity or close to it. That is significant.

First day of backup bg no one got to ride, the past 2 days it has taken the backup ones.

They are already at 99, something catastrophic would need to happen for you to not get on today.

I will be there on Dec. 28. We plan on being there before the 6 a.m. ropedrop time, and will try to get a boarding group. Once they day your boarding group is ready to board, how long do you have to get to the ride? We have a ADR for Olga's at 9:45 a.m. Should I just cancel it? What if we are at our 11:25 lunch? Riding ROTR is our number one priority for the day, but the boarding groups really make it hard to plan your day.

That's our first day at WDW so we'll be there too! Trying to decide if it's worth arriving by 5 am or if 5:30 will be good enough. As long as we get on RotR we'll be happy. Plan to be there every morning of our trip if we can get naps during the day. ;-)

They are up to bg 101 at 2:12pm. Unless the ride goes down for the rest of the day, the chances are really good that you should be riding soon.

As others have said, either they've reduced the number of people in a boarding group, or the lack of breakdowns really has increased the efficiency of getting people through the ride.

I saw rumors that they were planning on a software update this week that was suppose to fix the issues with the vehicles losing connection. Wondering if it was done Monday night since there has not been major breakdowns since that time.

And just for reference, MFSR opens every morning with a 60 min wait time, that's just their standard opening procedure. Once the tide actually opens and starts taking guests then the time is adjusted to real time. But every evening you can see how the wait time for falcon just drops dramatically
Thanks! I'm heading to WDW in early February. The only plan I have for my second day at the parks is SWGE. I haven't been to WDW in 8 years, so day 1 is all things Pandora and Animal Kingdom (and I got a FP for FOP!!!) and day 2 is all things SWGE and DHS. I got a FP for SDD. So really, my main concerns are for day 2, getting a boarding group for RotR and riding MFSR. So if I can likely get on MFSR in the evening, that leaves all my worrying for RotR! :)

Certainly the reports of long stoppages have reduced dramatically.
It's a major improvement it seems, even though we don't have exit numbers to confirm it.
We don't if it's all full speed and capacity, but we know it's not having nearly as many stoppages.

I had read rumors that part of the issue is the full restart of the attraction takes a long time. If they alter how long it has to re-boot, that would also be a win.

At 107, we’ve hit the backup groups now. About 2 hours earlier than yesterday.
Looks like we're getting closer to the ride performing at 80% theoretical capacity with 13.5 groups per hour and an estimated 100 per BG during the initial groups.

In queue to ride with BG 107. Woohooo. Queue is moving quickly

I'm wondering how long the waits once called are now that more BGs are going per hour. Do you know where in the queue the line was backed up to when you entered?

How bad was the Starbucks line before BGs became available this morning? Yes, I am considering showing up early just so I can get through the line and have my java in hand before RD. Think of trying for MFSR after dinner so will head to TSL first for TSMM and Aliens at RD.

It was a constant walk to the start of the experience. Did not stop for more than 20 seconds during walk. It gets bottle necked in one area during the experience but don’t want to spoil anything. Right now waiting in the bottle necked area but it is moving consistently but slowly.

You should get a notification, but do not rely 100% on getting one. Even if your settings are correct it hasn’t always popped for people.

Keep checking the app. I was never notified and at the time, I had turned notifications on. I got other notifications but not the one I really needed.
