Technologically challenged here...people have talked about whether to use wifi or cellular.
I have an iPhone 6s (I think).
How do I know whether I am using wifi or cellular? And, how do I change to choose one or the other?
thanks.

At the top of your phone near the time it will say what type of internet connectioj you have. LTE/4G is through the cell towers. The half circles are wifi. You can turn wifi off from settings. It’s much safer to use internet through the cell tower, unless you are on a private wifi connection at a home. Cellular is usually faster too.

Took Skyliner at AOA at 6:57.
Got to Hollywood studios near 7:10.
Tapped in and got boarding pass for 3 at 7:20.
Got BG 86. Family right in front got BG 85.
Smugglers is like a 120min wait at 7:27.

On Sunday we did the 5:20am uber and got BG 27 near 6:40am.

Skyliner was terrific and smooth if you don’t mind the later BG.

Based on this report of someone tapping in 20 minutes after official opening and the fact that BG 72 is now being called, it looks like everyone who was in the park at 7 probably got a BG that would get them called by noon or shortly after. Not bad.

The attraction must be operating pretty smoothly so far today.

Reading intently as we'll be arriving next week, when the posted park opening time is 6 am, trying to figure out when we should plan to arrive.

So 72 as of noon time I think? 74 now as I type this at 12:08
That is a new best I think.

I have Verizon LTE and my DD beat me to the BG using park wifi

Couple thoughts FWIW:
DD used park wifi while I tried to connect using Verizon. I had a strong signal and no signs of lag, but she still beat me to the BG.
I would recommend using the park wifi to connect, but don't stand near a large crowd which could overload specific wireless access points or slow it down. We were on Sunset away from everyone else.

It does make sense from a networking standpoint that WiFi users would have a slight advantage - even if the WiFi connection is a little slower, your phone has a more direct connection to Disney servers. A large crowd of connections from the outside may well be slightly slowed compared to connections from inside Disneys own network.

It was a smart idea to get away from other people to use a less crowded WiFi hotspot though, that probably helped as well.

I'm so nervous about the Disney wifi. From the UK so unless I buy a sim or pay extra we have to leave our experience in the hands of the infamous Disney wifi.... *chews on nails until they become unsightly stumps*

Just off the ride! That was incredible. Worth every minute of research and all the wait. My 7 year old daughter said it best: that wasn’t a ride, that was REAL!
Give your daughter an extra hug from me! She is absolutely right. Last night I was thinking that calling it an "experience" wasn't sufficient--it's an adventure.

Loving the reports today! Seems like everyone who was in the park at right at opening (and tried to get a BG as soon as they opened) got something around the 30s or lower which is great. Almost every report is a morning I'd be really happy to have when we're there in late January.
So does that mean if we get to DHS around a few hours after they open (say in mid Jan) we likely won't get a BG or even get to ride?

Correct, today the guaranteed groups were full in under an hour and the backup groups were around for about 1-2 hours after that.

The initial boarding groups lasted until 8:15 (1 hr 15 mins) today. The backups lasted for another 2 hr and 45 mins. Of course, unknown how many of those will be called. Mid-Jan, opening times are later but I'd still plan to get to DHS in under an hour after opening at the latest for now.

you can go to a guest experience CM, they have blue shirts and are all over the park, and they will be able to help you join a bg without the need for a phone

Yeah, if it operates at least fairly good I think they should get through all the main BGs at least. The issue is if there are any major breakdowns and for people who maybe only have one DHS day or whatever that having as low a BG as possible is a big need
