Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

I think I missed a question or two but I saw @PollyannaMom 's. Yes, I do! I mentioned music in the car relaxes me. I have a treasured playlist on Spotify that I go through depending on my mood. I also pay for Sirius XM because I sometimes like to listen to the news or other channels too. This is what commuting in (usually) heavy traffic gets you. :hyper:

I thought I would share a story with you from my weekend at work. My patient was very, very sick (with Covid) and still sort of out of it for the most part, unable to talk. But Sunday she remembered me from the shift before. We were communicating with our eyes, mostly, since I was behind a mask and steamy shield and she had various technology lines crowding her face. Sunday morning I leaned down, touched her arm, and said, "Happy Mother's Day" and her eyes widened, as in, "It's Mother's Day?". I told her I know you're a mother and described her children, saying I saw their picture in her room and reminded her that they're aware of where she is and involved in conversations with staff, etc., even though they couldn't be there. Her face then relaxed with peace. It was a really nice, memorable moment. I somehow knew going into the weekend that my being there on Mother's Day was going to be important to someone. So I felt good about it. (And I feel as if my mother is with me now in these moments; it was her who inspired me to go into nursing.)

I have a day off today and DD suggested we go to the cemetery to put flowers on my mother's grave so that's what we're going to do. I hadn't even thought of it going into the weekend as it's become a little stressful going into shifts where sleep is off and routines are changed, not to mention forced awareness of self-protections, so that I really have to think about and concentrate on what I'm doing when I'm working. I am hoping that some grass has grown as last time I visited there was just dirt there. We will buy some pretty flowers in pink, her signature color. Somewhere along the line we will get a walk with the dog in, and hopefully something good and relatively healthy to eat! DS and DH brought one of my exercise machines upstairs for me and it felt good to start a little workout again. Nice to have a little energy back today. Hopefully the weather holds out, I haven't even checked what's forecasted.

To the bolded--that was a very thoughtful and sweet thing you did. You gave that Mother something nice and loving to remember the day by, instead of her just being sick. :grouphug:

Hey, we just hit 100 pages with this thread..whoo hoo! It's kept a lot of us going, and at the rate things are going, we might make it to 200!

@Pea-n-Me, what a wonderful and thoughtful thing you did.

I just found out that an OT, who is the director of rehab at a place I used to work with him, moved out of his home to quarantine. The nursing home has multiple COVID cases and he didn't want to risk his family's health. He just missed his daughter's 2nd birthday. I know in the scheme of things, this isn't much, but it made me sad for him.

We are those odd balls that grill year round,
We will too, as much as we can. Our gas grill is getting old and doesn't work too well in really cold weather.

Tuesday, 5/12 -Do you sing along to the radio in the car?
That's a big yes. But my "best" singing is at home when watching an old musical like West Side Story, Sound of Music, or The King and I.

YES let's make this thread get to 200 pages, love that idea, Lynxstch! I have often thought throughout this it would be neat once this is all over to somehow compile (at least some of our replies or maybe even positive memory or experience) together

Thank you from me, too, PollyannaMom for stepping in for Tina and keeping this lovely thread going!

Hug and thank you Pea and Me for your thoughtfulness!

My thanks to each of you extra today on my birthday. I give God extra thanks this Tuesday for Blessing me with each of you and our coming together on here. Wishing all of you a beautiful day.

Something funny is in my old car, and I do mean old, it was 26 years old when I finally sold it before it completely gave out--should have done so much sooner, I would listen to Christmas music especially and sing along though every now and then I'd listen to something else as well. True, old fashioned CHRIST-mas based music is my very favorite, O Holy Night at the top. in my current car which will be 4 this Summer, I have a CD player that I have never used lol. I should get a Christmas CD this year and try it out :)

Not sure when Tina gets back, so will ask another fill-in question for today:

Do you sing along to the radio in the car?
Absolutely. I'm not a good singer - I can stay on key, but I'm a bit reedy and nasally. I've been told I kind of sound like Sting and I'm sometimes marble-mouthed like Robert Smith of The Cure. But if I don't sing, how else is my son going to learn what the "good stuff" is? ;)

We had "thunder hail" here last night. It got very cold and teeny tiny bits of hail started coming down sideways. I stepped out to pull one of my mom's plants closer to the house and man, those little hail pebbles actually sting!

I didn't sleep well last night, so I'm feeling very tired and cross today. This pediatric inflammatory illness has me scared as well. I don't know if it will help but I am militant about Josh taking his probiotic every day, hoping to stave off any inflammation he might already have :sad1:

I am sorry you didn't sleep well. I can commiserate. I woke at 4:45 after a nightmare that a stranger was holding DGD under water in a river and she was drowning. I couldn't let myself go back to sleep. I don't watch the news about the pediatric syndrome because all it will do is cause m even more anxiety.

I sing in the car, and at home, but only when I'm alone in the room/car. I do not have a good singing voice, but IDC if it's just me. LOL

Had leftover beef Oaxacan Mole and fried potatoes for breakfast. going to make burgers, fries and veggies for dinner. Creme Brulee for dessert (it'll still be good today, right? I only sugared/torched the ones we ate last night.)

Walmart and UPS got their wires crossed on the package I was sending to DGS#2 (I ordered #1 and #3 on Amazon and they were actually delivered earlier). Had to call today and get a refund, then reordered for DD#2 to pick up in store. Very easy to get the refund, because it never arrived at UPS, 2 weeks after ordering.

DGS#3 sent me a 'light catcher' (made of a piece of plastic and some colored glass stones) and a homemade mother's day card. Too heavy to hang in the windows, so it's on my bookshelf instead. I love getting little cards and pictures from the grandkids. Totally makes my week!

Just normal conversations I always have with patients. It's the favorite part of my job.

What a horrible dream! I have dreams like that sometimes, too. I feel like they happen more often when I'm stressed. Perhaps it reflects your fears about harm coming to her during this time. (I like dream analysis!)

Hugs to you. Again, I think we're all under a lot of stress with this whole Covid thing and changes in our routines, missing normalcy and those we love. Be easy on yourself. My son has to follow a low inflammatory diet for a medical issue he had a few months ago. He follows the Mediterranean diet as much as he can (challenging, no doubt) and has to limit brown sodas. He used to love Diet Coke but can't really drink it now. Take it easy.

Thanks for keeping the questions going. I sing along ALL.THE.TIME....anywhere and everywhere. And I'm a terrible singer. I could never do karaoke but my hubby and our friends Iike to go to a dueling piano bar and I'll sing my heart out loud there with everyone else.

I sing along in the car, I sing along in the shower, I sing along with the stereo at home, and I sing along with tv shows, lol I don't have a good voice, but I don't care, lol!
::yes:: This is me....I even sing with commercial jingles...

@Pea-n-Me thank you for sharing that. ❤

My 4 yo niece came to visit this weekend and I just found out her new favorite movie, thanks to Disney+ is the Sound of Music. OMG, she is so stinking cute singing "....the hills are alive, with the sound of music...":lovestruc:lmao:

I always sing in the car. I also sing in the living room, the store, and any place playing my kind of music, country music or oldies. I am not the best singer but just enjoy singing along. I always turn the radio in the car down after DH has had it on. He turns it up a bit too loud for me.

There is a real thing about COVID dreams and I expect that is what this was. Thanks everyone for your support.

My 3 yo DGD has discovered Sound of Music at her house and is also enjoying itl

Happy Birthday @flyingdumbo127 Best wishes!

Answer to today's question:
Yes, I enjoy singing in the car. 🎶🎶 Oldies, country, and Broadway CD's.
And slightly related, I enjoy humming while I get my chores done. Top of my favorites to hum?
A little of the Overture from Carousel.
I've loved that music for years. 💜

That was my favorite musical when I was in High School, I was even in the school production of it. To this day, I remember the words to almost all of the songs, and I haven't seen or heard the movie in years!
