Project Runway - Season 3 Official Thread (SPOILERS!!!)

Did anyone see the new promos for next weeks show? Seems like they are alluding to only 2 people going to fashion week?

Is Fashion Week this week or next?

We really won't be able to tell from Fashion week because they always have decoys in show. So, actually all 4 left as of right now will present their lines and then only the true finalists will be shown on the show. Pretty cool though for whomever didn't make the finals because they still get some major exposure.

Subscribing so I can check in again next week. For the record, my top three are Michael (my fav), Laura, and Jeffrey (b/c the producers will keep him.)

Go Michael!!!!!!

I am so sad to see Kayne out. Jefferey's "dress" looked like something a street walker would wear. It was atrocious. And what was up with him flipping everyone the bird when he ran back into the green room after being told he was in?????? What a...come one, say it with me...HINEY HOLE!

So Laura CAN emote. how sweet! I didn't love her dress but it was better than her other matronly stuff.

Uli is a one trick pony...wait, MY ponies can do lots of tricks....

Michael, you'd better win this thing dude!

Michael must win! I just love this man. He is so great in so many ways. I always love his outfits.

Jeffrey will be kept around for ratings.

Then I think it will be Laura, Uli's work is lovely, but I am getting sick of the, " this is a good dress for Miami" line.

Didn't you love it last night when Laura and Angela were talking about Angela coming back and Laura said she thought it wasn't fair since her win was a team win (Laura and Michael assisting), then Angela saying, well it is the design that won, not the construction... meow!

Glad to see Angela and Vincent lose again! Did not like their outfits.

Loved Michael's dress, WHITE! Also loved Laura's classy dress with the feathers or fringe on the bottom. Liked Kayne's, especially the back. Jeffrey's was ugly, but they want him for the ratings, so... However, I don't think I was looking forward to an entire line by Kayne, and I am looking forward to an entire line by Jeffrey.

ETA: Final three, Michael, Michael and Michael - well, add Laura and Jeffrey to that mix.

That was funny. I agree with Laura. She and Michael were the ones reigning Angela in from putting Granny circles all over the outfit. :rotfl: PUUURRR!

Fashion week started last Friday. I was in NYC on Saturday and went by Bryant Park just to peek, on the way to the Empire State building. Let me tell you, there was NO Way I could have found out anything. Very tight security - I was just hoping for a walk by but alas, I know no more that the rest of you here.

My pick to win - Michael.

I agree about Michael winning. He is really the only one I see with the ability to put together a string of outfits for a show.

I like Uli, but it seems like it will be the same dress in different patterns, one right after another. You know how when you sew and you buy one pattern and on the front of the envelope they show you 3 or 4 different variations? That is Uli.

I just don't like Laura and so I find it hard to like her clothing. I know there is a market for her style of design, but it is just not something I can get into.

Jeffrey - I don't know. It seems like every year there is one person who can either be brilliant or atrocious and you just don't know who is going to show up. His work has a very limited audience however.

I didn't see the point in bringing Angela or Vincent back. They are clearly subpar to the 4 designers that are left and they clearly were not going to win that challenge.

Uli's dress was pretty much exactly like what she was wearing. The neckline was almost identical. Only difference was the pattern and the model had sleeves.

What was with Laura drinking champagne? I know that a little, sometimes, won't hurt, but most women don't drink during their pregnancies even a little AND they don't do it on national TV!

Also, I'm wondering how her girls are liking that she doesn't wear bras with those low cut dresses. I'm actually in pain thinking about her nipples rubbing up against the material with nothing in between.

What a twist having Angela and Vincent return- and Laura didn't hold back on her thoughts about it.

I did notice Vincent seemed to have some of his confidence knocked out of him for this show though... I'll guess I'll start with his dress- if he had only thought to use the extra material to make more of a skirt... lol but he still wouldn't have won.

Angela- ok- she was just a waste to bring back- I'm still confused over what it was she created- but I didn't see any granny circles- unless that is what was all over the collar of her dress

Kayne- I really think his design would have been fine- had he done some more white- I think he ended up out because of the lack of the white in the dress. it was nice to see that he could do something different and his presence in the mix will be missed- but I sort of knew that his departure was coming.

Jeffrey- this guy really is a jerk- and I loved his face when Angela walked back in lol- too funny- but what was he thinking- his outfit did look like it belonged on a street corner... it really was hideous- and I bet he will not be there too much longer

Uli- I actually had to edit this post and add her in here- forgot about her- I guess it has something to do with the fact that every dress she makes looks the same. None are bad- but she really needs to make something else or she will be next to go for sure. If you watch any one show and haven't been following along you like her designs you may even like any 2 in a row- but more than that it is just basically same dress different prints...

Michael- I think he will end up winning it all too- he is really the best overall designer and does do the best package when he designs. I was surprised with all the judges comments that he didn't win...

Laura- finally she came up with something that looked like another person could wear it. I really did like this dress and if I had the body for it would wear it- I could see my dd or nieces wearing something like this- but could also see some of my friends too... It was a nice dress and although had the "Babydoll" sillouette it didn't look like a babydoll dress. Not sure if she can hang in there for the end- I think the win will boost her confidence though but she may be gone if she can't do what she did for this show.

Good show- can't wait til next week.

Angela and Vincent came back only to be shown how outclassed they really are. I almost felt sorry for them.

Not only did they not win, but if it had been a straight competition, they probably would have been the bottom two. :sad2:

Interesting on the Bravo survey that about 86% wanted Allison :sunny: back compared to Bradly or Robert.

I hope Bravo does not repeat this experiment next season. It seemed unfair and created a lot of resentment among the contestants.

I liked the twist. People who win a competition should have some special treatment. They had a chance to get back into the contest and the requirement that they had to win this challenge was a good handicap for them. They both failed and would have been near the bottom but this wrinkle clearly has some benefits.

I would want Allison to come back over Robert or Bradley also. Robert was very boring the last couple of challenges and Bradley was just plain out of it. Allison had some talent and the recycling challenge was not a good one for her given the fact that her materials did not work as aspected.

I liked the twist too, but I didn't agree that Angela should come back since it was a team effort that got her that win. If Laura and Michael hadn't reigned her in and her crazy crocheted circles, that INC outfit would have been another loser for her.

I would have liked to see Alison come back. I felt she had way more design talent than Angela. She should have spoken up on the runway about how her original striped paper skirt wouldn't sew together right and in the last hour she had to crumple up that paper to make an outfit. Kane cried about his and about how he scrapped his original wide skirt and threw that bottom together in the last hour. The judges seemed to judge him less harshly after he said that.

I think Michael is the clear winner overall, but I like the others too. Uli makes some beautiful dresses that I'd wear, but she does need to mix it up a bit or she'll be out next.

Can't wait for next Wednesday!

I had to run some errands after I picked up my dd's from school. I said "would you guys mind if we ran in Macy's really quick?" My dd8 says "You know I want to go in there! We still haven't seen Angela's outfit." I just thought it was funny because I had totally forgotten. We have looked a couple of other times, but I really figured that we would not find it because our store just turned into a Macy's (from a Jone's Store) right around the time of that challenge. Well sure enough it was there tonight!!! It was kinda cute, but I thought that the quality wasn't all that great. The granny circles were kind of weird and not attached very well. The jacket was $139, pants $89, pink top $39. Seemed kind of high for the way it looked. The jacket was short sleeved. Was it short or long sleeves in the original? The granny circles from the back of the collar were gone too. Anyway, it was pretty exciting for dd8 and I! :thumbsup2

Using all the fabric pieces was a really dumb challenge element. When, in real life, is a designer ever going to have that kind of restriction? It made the garments worse, IMO.

From Heidi's reaction/dismissal in the elimination, it seemed that Vincent and Angela were not going to win no matter what. I think bringing them back was just a stunt.

Ug-- I still hate Angela. Lose the bubble skirt; it's not doing you any favors and that trend is long dead. She tried to lie about lining the bag with the excess fabric. Loved how the judges called her out on that!

Vincent-- don't blame your model. The dress was ugly and cheap looking. My thought during the whole show was "Why not make the skirt longer to use up the extra?" Would have made the gown look better.

Laura basically used her model's idea for the sleeves on her dress. I did like the fringe, though. I would wear it. Good job on lining and lining and lining the bag.

I still love Jeffrey. Yes, his cocktail dress was/is a little 1980's teenage hooker/currently found in Forever 21, but he is consistently creative and different in his designs while still maintaining his own aesthetic. He's not a one trick pony like Uli or Laura. I think he really took the judges' criticism to heart this time. I hope he produces a bit more elegance for the next challenge.

Not everybody lives in Miami, Uli. I think she should have been in the last two with Kayne.

Kayne-- I liked the couture dress! The front of the cocktail dress was hot! The shape was very now and very modern. The back-- eh, not so much. I think it was due to the white ribbon. If it was black, I'd wear it. Kayne, having designed a dress for Miss USA, will probably be more successful in the pagent world than if he had actually won PR. I think he benefited the most from the show and probably will do better than the winner in terms of business.

I didn't like Michael's dress very much this time. I thought it was very simple, almost too simple.

Michael has to be top three. I can't figure out who the decoy will be. If Uli makes top three, we can count on a collection of flowy halter-type gowns. I really want to see Jeffrey produce a full collection. His look is very modern and very hip right now and I think he would do well. Laura's collection would hold no suprises. I wonder if she could really produce a full collection, with the baby and all?

Uli's new nickname is

hol your breath for it

MIAMI!

:rotfl2:

Seriously, I do love her work and I think her dresses are lovely, but they are the same each time. I want to see what else she can do, just like I want to see what else Jeff can do.

I hope it is Michael all the way! He rocks!

I know on other reality shows like American Idol, if they take someone under 18 on the road a parent must accompany them. That would be a huge expense, but then again.. maybe that's not something they HAVE to do but just something American Idol does as a rule? :confused3
I think it is a law. Paris, one of the 10 finalists on this year's American Idol, was 17 during the competition. The American Idol tour was just in Minneapolis recently and they made a big thing about her having her birthday and no longer needing her mom (or another guardian) to accompany her. I know her Grandma was with her for part of the competition. She's originally from the Minneapolis area, so they had quite a bit in the news about her.

They also just had a try-out for American Idol in Minneapolis last week end. Some of the news stories made the point that anyone under 18 had to be accompanied to the try out by a parent or guardian, who would also have to go to LA with them if they were chosen.

::yes::
I agree. If they had just done everything she told them to do, the whole thing would have been covered with granny circles. Michael and Laura not only reined her in, they were the ones who worked on proportion and line. All Angela had was some really basic sketches.

It did an interesting dilemma for the designers. They had to know how their pattern was going to be laid out to make the most efficient use of fabric before they bought the fabric.
Laura basically used her model's idea for the sleeves on her dress. I did like the fringe, though. I would wear it. Good job on lining and lining and lining the bag.
I thought it was interesting how little of her fabric she had left. When I mentioned it to my oldest DD, she pointed out that maybe being an architect (and a very good pattern drafter) was a BIG advantage on this challenge.

Project Runway" final four show collections in NY
September 15, 2006 15:42:36

Models walk the runway wearing designs by Jeffrey Sebelia in New YorkBy Christopher Michaud

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The final four aspiring designers of television's "Project Runway" unveiled their collections on Friday for New York's Fashion Week, each hoping their style would earn them the winning role on the hit show.

The winner of the reality show, now in its third season on Bravo, gets $100,000 to start a clothing line, a spread in Elle magazine, bragging rights and enviable media attention.

After a season of competing in tasks from making a couture gown to an outfit from recycled materials, all under tense deadlines, the last four contestants each showed a dozen looks before a standing-room crowd of industry insiders, cheering fans and judges who included designer Michael Kors.

The winner will be announced during the season finale on October 11.

First up was Jeffrey Sebelia, an outspoken, tattooed Los Angeles designer who left behind the rock-and-roll aesthetic that marked his work during the season and surprised onlookers with gentle, youthful and casually sophisticated designs.

Making heavy use of soft reds and golds, broad stripes and even polka dots, his lightweight skirts and party dresses seemed geared toward a California beach culture, with nary a whit of his signature black.

Miami Beach's Uli Herzner kept to looks more emblematic of her designs during the show's run, heavy on prints and shimmering, soft fabrics in gold or silver.

She produced beach sets of two-piece suits with matching cover-ups in yellow-and-brown or purple-and-gold animal-inspired stripes and softly glittering silver tops with leather skirts. A full-length tie-dyed dress in bright blue evoked her South Florida aesthetic.

Laura Bennett, a Manhattan-based architect and mother of five who learned during the show's filming that she was expecting a sixth child, showed high-waisted outfits in black or soft gold.

She used beading, fringe and shiny feathers to jazz up and stamp a look of elegance on her designs. Her dominant fabric was black lace, used extensively in tops and dresses, one of which she paired with a fake-fur shrug.

The audience favorite clearly was Michael Knight, who throughout the season showed judges thoughtfully tailored designs, but took chances in this collection.

Starting with an ivory and gold palette, the Atlanta-based designer showed lace-up tops and smock jackets, used strong colors such as deep fuchsia and metallic orange and went for the bold with a futuristic swimsuit that appeared to be made of shimmering liquid gold.

Michael all the way....he makes it work!!!! (Tim would be so proud!!!)

I'm sorry, but I think Uli's designs look like the same dress in different colors or lengths. I see no creativity! What is her deal!? She has to do other stuff. I can't believe she's gotten by so far on practically the same dress!

I loved both Michael and Laura's dresses. I would def. wear both, but would prob. look better in Laura's!
