Princess Ashlyn's Birthday Trip - That's 2 For 2! September 2010 PTR (Started my TR!)

Your movie nights have inspired me to have Disney dinners at our '50' day mark, '30' mark & '10' day mark til Disney.......I was going to pick one nights theme(disney movie and try to get the party plates and such that go w/it) and let DD & DS choose a night...any ideas?? Princess & the Frog is a great one w/gumbo but not sure my kiddos will eat the gumbo. ;)
I love your cake pops...i am going to try and google how to make them.

Oh how exciting! We  our movie nights. We have one coming up this weekend, actually, so I'll be posting pictures of that early next week. I have LOTS of ideas for different movies. I keep a list that I update every time I see a new idea on here or anywhere else on the internet or whenever something just pops in my head. There is also a thread on the DIS all about movie nights (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1707141) that I get a lot of ideas from. Let me know what movies you all decide on and I can see if I have any extra ideas, too!

Cake pops are SUPER easy. Bakerella is the MASTER of cake pops. I would totally check her site out (and of course she has the directions on how to do them, too). :)

Thank you! We want to do Alice in Wonderland (original, not Tim Burton's... still need to see that!!) but it might have to change last minute. But I'll talk more about that afterward. And I'm thinking we're going to have our night on Sunday instead of Saturday. Saturday's just packed with stuff to do already. Aaron is trying to convince me to sign up to sell some cake pops at the craft fair, just for fun, but I'm not sure yet. :confused3 We'll see.

Awhile ago Milliepie over on the DISign board made me something to put on a shirt for Ashlyn to wear on Father's Day. It is Mickey dressed as a sailor and it says "Proud of my Daddy."

Well, Tuesday Aaron comes home and says that Thursday (today) is "Take Your Child To Work Day" all over the base. Aaron tends to forget to tell me things until the last minute. He's gotten better, though. Anyway, so after I asked my dad and a friend for their opinion, I decided to go ahead and make the shirt for this event! She can always wear it again on Father's Day, too. :) So I made it on Wednesday after he went back to work after lunch and I knew he would be at work for a few hours and he wouldn't walk in and see what I was making.

Security set up a few demonstrations and different things for the kids to check out. Here is Ashlyn in her shirt before we left.

Aaron didn't know anything about it until we arrived to the event. He got a big smile on his face when he saw the shirt.

This weekend is our next movie night so I will be sure to post pictures of it as soon as I can!

Love the shirt! That's the perfect occasion for it too. :)

awwww....the shirt came out cute!
Ashlyn is too cute!

Thank you so much! I just loved seeing the look on Aaron's face when he realized what the shirt said. He first said "What's this silly shirt?" but generally when he says something is silly, he loves it and just doesn't want to gush about it. :) When he came home from work last night he even mentioned a couple of times how much he liked it. :lovestruc

ashlyn is soo adorable and i love the shirt idea its so cute:) your DH looks so proud:) I am working on catching up on your PTR:)

Aww that shirt is so cute. Aaron must have been so proud! That's very sweet!

Such a cute t-shirt! Awww.

Thank you!!! Aaron is so proud of his little girl. She really has him wrapped around his little finger. He doesn't always like to gush with emotion, but sometimes the look on his face says it all. :) I remember how when we were still in the hospital after I had Ashlyn, and we got her certificate of birth (different from her actual birth certificate... that info goes to the Bahamas and then the cert gets sent back to us) he read it to me and started tearing up. It was the sweetest thing in the world.

We had another movie night tonight! We watched Alice in Wonderland. Here was our table. I used some placemats from each of our sets to try and make it a bit more "mad." :lmao:

IMG_4776.jpg

I used Ashlyn's tea set to try to set up a mini mad tea party.

IMG_4777.jpg

I put mini pinwheels in the vase.

And of course we had to have a mouse in the larger tea pot!

You know, I kept that clock ad from one of our Disney trips and had it in my craft pile to make an Alice craft but never got around to it. I still wanted to use it, though. Maybe I'll save it for when Ashlyn is older and we can do something with it together... maybe for a future movie night!

I also made a few signs for our walls.

IMG_4765.jpg

:rotfl2: I just noticed that you can see Ashlyn's little hands trying to reach the signs in this picture. I really didn't see that until I was reading over this post! :lmao:

It's not a great close up or anything, but Ashlyn colored a picture of Alice and the Chesire Cat. It turned out beautifully. :) Aaron and I joined her, too, of course.

There were other crafts I wanted to do but I just didn't have the materials. Oh well, next time!

For dinner we had chicken caesar salad bites (chicken caesar salad on cheese crisps) and garlic & olive oil vermicelli.

IMG_4770.jpg

Our drinks were labeled (Ashlyn had a juice box, I had flavored water, and Aaron had wine).

IMG_4774.jpg

For dessert I made caramel apple oatmeal cookies.

IMG_4768.jpg

I was going to cut up an apple for Chesire Cat Smiles, but completely forgot. :lmao: It was so much fun to set up. After dinner we all watched the movie. Ashlyn LOVED it. She has a good attention span for an 18 month old but this is the first time she sat and watched 95% of a movie. She was so upset when it was over! It was a wonderful night and I'm already looking forward to our next one in two weeks! I'm not sure at all what movie we'll be doing, but I'm hopefully going to decide soon so I can start planning! :)

OH! I completely forgot to explain why I had to wait til last minute to really know what movie we'd be watching. We don't own Alice in Wonderland yet. Well, we ordered it online and just haven't gotten it in the mail yet. We still wanted to watch it this week, though, so I had to hope they still had it at the library to borrow and since you can only keep movies from the library for 3 days I went to get it on Friday. It all worked out, though. :cool1:

really cute. Makes me want to start doing theme movie nights but I haven't figured out how to get everything I need done actually finished lately, so it might have to wait! But I'm enjoying living vicariously through you!

What a cute shirt! A super cute Disney night again! I am glad Ashlyn loved Alice in Wonderland--my DD still talks about it. Those cookies sounds yummy, care to share the recipe?

Thank you! We're keeping our movie nights pretty simple right now. As Ashlyn gets older, though, I want to do more with the decorations and try different crafts. Should be fun!! Oh, and we decided today that our next movie night will be Monsters Inc. :cool1:

Cute! Great ideas for Alice in Wonderland night! :thumbsup2

Thank you so much!

Sure!

Caramel Apple Oatmeal Cookies
(The recipe is from Cooking Light Magazine. I honestly was a little unsure about a cookie recipe from a cooking light magazine, but they turned out very yummy. :thumbsup2)

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
6 Tbsp. unsalted butter, softened
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 large egg
3/4 cup finely chopped dried apple slices
3/4 cup caramel bits or 16 small soft caramel candies, chopped

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Lightly spoon flour into dry measuring cups; level with a knife. Combine flour and next 4 ingredients (through salt) in a bowl; stir well.
3. Place sugars and butter in a large bowl; beat with a mixer at medium speed until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and egg; beat well. Gradually add flour mixture; beat at low speed until just combined. Fold in apple and caramel bits.
4. Drop dough by 2 teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper. Flatten balls slightly with hand. Bake at 350 degrees for 9 minutes. Cool on pans 3 minutes. Remove cookies from pans; cool completely on wire racks. Yield: 4 dozen
