Princess Ashlyn's Birthday Trip - That's 2 For 2! September 2010 PTR (Started my TR!)

Tonight was our Monsters, Inc. movie night! We didn't have much for decorations, but that's okay. What we did have was pretty special. ;)

I had decided that I would let Ashlyn paint a door on a piece of poster board. Well, I guess I should say I was going to let her paint on a piece of poster board and I would add details to make it look like a door. :rotfl: I had cut out some paper in rectangles and a circle to tape onto the door so there would be no paint there in order to help make it look like a door. The purple is all her and Aaron painted yellow borders around the papers I put on to make it stand out while I went and got our little purple people eater into the bath. :lmao: Here is Ashlyn's creation.

Aaron had also said that he thought it would be cool if each one of us painted a door! I was so happy that he enjoys the movie nights, too, and wants to be involved. Here's his door (you can see where Ashlyn felt that her Daddy's door needed a little purple!).

And here is mine.

And the best "decoration" of all.... our very own Boo!!!

IMG_4849.jpg

She absolutely hates to stand still for pictures anymore. She either wants to run around or come check out the camera.

For dinner we had Boo's Mini Meatloaves (a REALLY yummy recipe I got from Kraft Food Magazine) and Mike's Mashed Potatoes.

IMG_4854.jpg

We also had Sully's Punch. I took the clear Kool-Aid (I think it's Watermelon Kiwi) and put blue food coloring in it (I don't know if they make blue Kool-Aid, but I DO know that they don't sell it here ) and then I had frozen grape Kool-Aid to use as ice cubes. You can't really tell, but those are purple Mickey-shaped ice cubes in the blue Kool-Aid.

IMG_4855.jpg

And for dessert was Eye Scream Sundaes. Aaron likes to get creative and had honey, chocolate syrup, strawberry jelly, nuts, and maraschino cherries on his.

IMG_4857.jpg

I'm a little more simple when it comes to my ice cream (oops, I mean Eye Scream) so I just had chocolate syrup, nuts, and maraschino cherries. :)

Really besides Ashlyn looking like Boo and the doors, the only decorations we had were green plates, green forks, and blue spoons.

I'm hoping our next movie night will be The Lion King, but we don't own it and the library doesn't have it so I'm going to be trying to find someone that I can borrow it from. Ashlyn's absolute favorite stuffed animal right now is the baby Simba we got her at Disney in October 2009. She's been carrying it around everywhere and calls it "Baba" since she can't say Simba. So hopefully that will work out! :thumbsup2

I also want to say an early HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all the moms out there!!!

What a great movie night!

I love the doors, and I love that all of you have your own. Although, to be technical, your monster and Aaron's monster would probably have to share a closet, unless you have more than one closet in your room. :lmao: Did I think that through too much? We all share a room, so the four monsters trying to scare us must have quite the traffic jam on their way to work!

The food looks delicious. Now, you will have to share that meatloaf recipe. And I need an eye-scream sundae!

Your little "Boo" takes the cake for best decoration!

Hope you have a great mother's day!

:rotfl: You always make me laugh! You're awesome! We technically have two closets connected to each other. Like we have one walk-in closet that leads to another walk-in closet (though it's all shelves so we use it for games and craft stuff). Does that count? :lmao: Or maybe we can just say Aaron's door is to the closet he has when he's in the doghouse. :rotfl2:

I'm on my way to bed, but I will get on tomorrow with the meatloaf recipe. It is SO easy and very tasty.

I  our Boo "decoration." :) I swear she sounds and acts just like Boo, too. You know in the beginning when Boo is picking up and dropping Sully's tail? Our poor cat (her name is Ali... sounds like alley... so she's our Ali cat... corny, but I  calling her that) goes through that EVERY day.

Love the movie night! Cute doors, yummy food, and, as always, Ashlyn is adorable! It is so great that Aaron gets so excited and involved. :lovestruc

And Happy Mother's Day to you too!

Incidentally we all sleep in the same room too and the closet is in the master bath with no door so I'm not sure how the monsters are getting in! :lmao:

What a fun night! I've made those mini meatloaves before and they are SO good! I've made the bbq ones and the Italian ones. Both have been great. Love the door pictures...very creative.

Love the Monsters, Inc stuff. Too cute!!!

Thank you! Happy Mother's Day!

I saw them and they turned out super cute! I love them!

I hope you had a very happy Mother's Day, too.

Great movie night! Those meatloaf muffins are great--we have made them bunches (I adapted the recipe for my family's taste). They freeze really well btw in case you had not tried before.

Happy Mother's Day. Your Little Boo is adorable! :cutie:

Oh cool! No, we hadn't tried freezing them before. I will probably do that next time we make them because we always have so much leftover. Thanks for the tip!

I hope you had a great Mother's Day!!!

WOW! I knew it had been awhile since I updated, but almost two weeks?! Yikes! It's been pretty busy around here, but I'm hoping to have lots to post about soon. We're doing a 100 day countdown calendar and I am planning lots of activities (big and small) so I'll post about them all. And that is less than a month away, so yay! :)

Yesterday we had our latest movie night. It wasn't anything big at all, but we still had a lot of fun. We were hoping to find a copy of The Lion King but no one I asked had it and neither the library nor the little "video store" here had it. :confused3 It just wasn't meant to be this week. BUT my dad has it and is going to send us a copy. It should be here in plenty of time for our next movie night so we're planning on doing it in two weeks. All that caused us to choose our movie pretty last minute so I didn't have a chance to put a whole lot together.

Anyway, Aaron chose the movie this week and he picked Pocahontas! I was so excited because I hadn't seen it before! I know, right? But I've seen it now and I loved it!!!

Here is our table. Pretty simple but I still liked it. Aaron had surprised me with the flowers a few days before.

For dinner we had a mini Thanksgiving meal... turkey, cranberry sauce (for Aaron), mashed potatoes, corn, and even some pumpkin pie! YUM!

For the craft, I found a cool Earth Day craft that I felt would go well with the movie. We made a wreath out of Ashlyn's handprints, put a lyric from "Colors of the Wind" in the middle, and all three of us (though mainly Ashlyn) decorated it with stickers. It was a lot of fun and it turned out really nice.

IMG_4882.jpg

The lyrics we used are:
"The rainstorm and the river are my brothers.
The heron and the otter are my friends.
And we are all connected to each other
In a circle, in a hoop that never ends."

Love the craft and a mini- Thanksgiving sounds yummy!

Cute movie night. That hand wreath turned out so cute! Did she sit still so you could trace her hand a million times? Impressive.

Dinner sounds delicious! Glad you liked the movie. I've seen it, but not in the longest time.

Love the movie night idea! I've never seen Pocahontas either!

Amanda

Thanks! I'm glad that we did watch Pocahontas... I'm surprised I've never seen it. I really enjoyed it.

Love the craft and a mini- Thanksgiving sounds yummy!

We only have pumpkin pie for Halloween (I make pumpkin pie bites and decorate them as jack-o-lanterns) and Thanksgiving so it was a nice treat to have some this early in the year!

Thank you! Ashlyn probably would have sat still for a few handprints, but no, I just traced her hand once and then used that as a template to make all the others. She would have started squirming after the first 3 or so. :)

Aaron's like you... he had seen the movie but not for a really long time. He probably hadn't seen many Disney movies at all (except for Finding Nemo... he was stationed in Hawaii when it came out so he went to go see it) before I came along, though. Now he loves to watch them. I had mentioned watching a bunch of the princess movies closer to our trip with Ashlyn and said that I would during the day so he didn't have to and he said "You better wait until I'm home so I can watch the princesses with my girls!"

i love your pocohantos movie night:) your table set-up is so cute as always:) I can't wait to see what you do for your Lion King movie night:) I should start doing the movie nighted dinners and themes too:) it wil be something fun to do with my hubby:) thats a good idea to cook a turkey day dinner:) sounds delicious!
