POT (Proof of Time) Race Equivalency Cutoff Confirmed Times

For which race? If it was the 10k then some people likely lied about their pace to get an earlier start. Not good but I’m not sure how pervasive that issue is. If it was the half then that’s dicier, A should be just for the fastest POT participants, so I’m not sure what the story would be there.
There were some in A for half but much more for the 10k which makes sense given what everyone is saying on POT. Not to be rude, but saw several participants who did not look like they could physically obtain a qualifying POT.

Completely agree, someone could have an injury or just choose to walk for whatever reason. I was frustrated they weren’t walking on the right especially in the first section of the course which was tight.
This is very true. What was most frustrating to me is that there were so many walkers at the front of the corral. If you have a POT to get into A but you are injured or just choosing to have fun and walk or jog slower, race etiquette would say to stick towards the back of the corral.

Agree! in the A corral for the 10k a large group lined up at the starting line and just started walking. At least hang to the back half of A to let people run ahead. Not sure if they keep starting line videos but would be helpful to see. I was shocked at the pool in A/B, expected it to look like it did in the Halloween race.

I agree with this. At 2024 MW, for one of the races I had some people by me at the front of A who were sooo happy to be there because they didn't belong in the same speed group as those around them. They started off walking and I had to dodge them as I started.

The worst part was they lined up in the middle front of the corral. It took a second to get around them and it caused a log jamb for a sec. They should pick the far right and stay over there. Half was cleaner. There was a group of self serving people wondering around stepping on and bumping into people to get up there. There were a few angry individuals

This is why I think there should be POT for the 10k, or at least an option to submit it for the 10k. My 10k speed puts me in B but I’ve been in C before because of all of the fibbing people are doing. Without being allowed to submit a POT I don’t have much option to challenge that C assignment.

Agreed. The timed races should require POT for A/B. And at this point, they should just make the 5k be a first come first served corral placement, since so many people lie anyways.

Unless you qualify as Elite maybe. Otherwise, DD would not have been able to win a race at Disney if she would have placed in later corrals. Also, a completely arbitrary placement could have prevented me to start with her. There is no ideal.

Agreed. Since they use POT for the challenge folks doing the 10k, they may as well make it for everyone. Selfishly I would love if they made A a POT for the 5k too, but I know it's supposed to just be a fun run.

I was in corral A for the half. My POT was from 2022 so last time I could use it. Spent first half of 2024 not running due to pretty bad knee injury. Knowing I would be slow I stayed at the back of the corral for the start. I also was doing intervals with a fairly big walk interval but had no issues getting to the side.

Injury is a big reason people can be in A who do not belong. That was me but I was not moving back and I tried to be respectful to all the people running that A pace.

I've run a fair number of RunDisney races from corrals A and B while injured or not at my best, as well. I always make it a point to start to the side and preferably at the back of a wave, if possible. I don't think it's the experienced runners with injuries that are causing the majority of the issues. My observation is that it seems to be the runners who are trying to get a time buffer to allow for character stops along with some folks that have an attitude of "it's my race and I'm going to run it how I want to, regardless of the circumstances". I've seen that sentiment expressed many times in other running groups to excuse lack of etiquette or consideration for other runners. Also, to be clear, I've seen that expressed both by slower runners in early corrals and by faster runners in later corrals, so I'm not saying it's limited to one set of runners/paces.

Ya absolutely, there should be a way for any elite runner to ensure they’ll be in A.
Right now it is arbitrary though. People with the same anticipated pace are placed in multiple corrals since so many put a faster time.
The real ideal would be people be honest about their anticipated time.

Fast runners in later corrals, especially the type who like to deliberately start late and see how many people they can pass can be a major hazard, weaving in and out of crowds with no apparent regard for what they're doing.

I'm one of those slow people in B, and I start wherever I end up in the crowd, but I am extremely conscientious of staying to the right during my walk intervals, signaling my intervals, and actually looking before I slow down. I don't really fit in comfortably anywhere because my run pace is fast, so I get super frustrated around the slower people, and my walk pace is average, so people, even other walkers, pass me like crazy.

...and actually looking before I slow down...
This, this, this. The amount of people that just throw up the hand and come to a dead stop is just bonkers. Then they have the self righteous indignation when you 'fly' right by them trying your best not to brush up as you pass. Or even worse have a slight bump.

The W&D half was my first Disney race and I had a blast. There were three of us (two A and one B) that decided to run together, so we started out in the front half of B. We were surprised by the logjam of slower runners/walkers at the start line and had to weave around for the first stretch until it cleared out shortly before entering EPCOT. It was pretty smooth sailing from there. We stopped at most of the characters, so we would pass folks, stop for pictures, then pass the same folks, stop for pictures, and repeat. Overall it was a great experience and I look forward to running the half again.

I also move to the right before I slow down (whenever possible), so I'm not becoming a slow hazard in the midst of the runners. I worry about all this less on the wide highway miles where there's plenty of space for everyone

It's just like driving on the freeway - anyone slower than you is an idiot and anyone faster than you is a maniac 🤣
Only if they're doing it in the wrong spot--drive slow in the slow lane and fast in the fast lane and you're fine

Good point - more specifically "passing lane" and "driving lane" 😎
