Popeyes chicken sandwich. Is it that good?

Popeyes mostly sells bone-in chicken except for their strips which come cut into strips. So fresh, boneless chicken breasts cut to use for these sandwiches and probably pre-brined, is something that they probably ran out of easily.

They have dealt with bread because they have Po-boys but not with this specific bun possible their supplier ran out of these particular buns. Pickles they would have because they come on the po-boy.

It was never a brioche bun though. Isn't a po-boy supposed to be served on a French roll? The bread reminded me of burgers I had on a Kings Hawaiian bun.

This was supposed to be a limited time promotion, although if this holds up I think it might be permanent. The other thing is that Popeyes is getting really expensive. I looked at my local one and saw a 3 piece combo with drink and a side is almost $12 before tax. At least the sandwich has a national price of $3.99 and a combo $5.99. A small drink at my local one is $2.79 and a small side is $3.19. I just wish I could get jambalaya as a side at the combo price.

From what I heard they had an anticipated 7 week supply that lasted something like 2 weeks so they did underestimate the demand.

I don't really frequent Popeyes but I may try out the sandwich when it gets back in stock.

I am loving/laughing that this thread is now 5 pages long.

Made me go to the chick today (it’s closer). After my lake trip this weekend, I’ll be sliding in sideways to a Popeyes 😂

Even if no sandwich is available. German husband’s favorite American food, in this order.

1. Publix fried chicken (I don’t get it)
2. Popeyes fried chicken (I do get it)
3. Church’s fried chicken (also get it - and fried okra - just sayin’)
4. My spaghetti
5. My mashed potatoes.

Go figure 🤷‍♀️ And I make good fancy meals y’all! Spaghetti? Fried chicken?

I’m all like look, “lamb chops”! 😂

I don't get Chick-Fil-A. I've tried it a few times. Kind of bland I thought. Of course I could ask for sauces and it would get totally doused in it. Also they used styrofoam cups which seemed kind of strange. I haven't seen a fast food place with styrofoam cups in ages, save Sonic. However, they serve frozen drinks.
Agree with all this. And it’s over priced. It’s $12 for a meal. We have one a few towns over and we’ve been maybe 3 times
Since it’s opened. Won’t go again

You aren’t the first to mention Church’s and that’s the one I don’t get. I remember them when I was a kid as being really good. There is one in the town ds lives in and I stopped one evening after taking my granddaughter home. Yuck! It was like it had cornmeal in the batter and just not a good texture to the meat.

But a couple of weeks later Dd mentioned someone was bringing them Church’s for lunch. I didn’t comment but figured she would hate it. She really liked it and didn’t find anything off about it.

So I guess it was just the one I went to.

Yeah, that’s why I said not that specific bun.

Wow. A lot higher where y’all are! It’s about $7 here. Not any higher than any other ff meal. I think the small sides are 2 something.

It has gotten prettty expensive for family size meals though. We used to grab chicken on Friday nights because we could get take out for the family pretty cheap. Now it’s cheaper to get everyone a separate meal.

We had a Popeye's open last week and CFA opens tomorrow in a nearby city...basically across the street from each other. :rotfl2:

That's interesting. :scratchin I've always wondered why fast-food places open in such close proximity to direct competition. There are lots of them here that actually share parking lots. You have to be paying attention to be sure you turn into the right drive-thru line.

Because if one opens where the shopping centers are and the other one opens 3 miles away, the one at the shopping center is going to get all the business.

I'm cheap. I had a brief look and I thought a 3 pc combo was more than $10. I can't find a recent picture though. I just found this one from Yelp. It's the Popeye's in Berkeley, California and it says it was from last May:

So a 4 pc combo is $11.49, although a 3 pc combo is $9.79. I can't quite tell what the $3.99 meal deals are though.

I use to get a Popeye's special before I went to Oakland A's games. It might have been something like $9.99 for a 12 pc bucket, which was cheaper than eating in the stadium and they allowed outside food. I was a regular at the games and then asked who wanted some of it. I'd grab 3 pieces for myself and then there were always takers. I was the guy who brought food and beverages to share. I may have been cheap, but that was my way of being cheap, yet generous.

I don't see any mention of Canes. I think they're pretty good. The sauce is awesome. I'm not sure what states have these restaurants.

I never feel bad after eating at Chick Fila, and I've never had a bad meal there. Whether you like it or not the quality is consistent. I find it similar to In and Out in that regard. Both these places are cash cows on the West coast. They always have lines a mile long. I've found KFC and Popeyes to be pretty hit or miss.

Must be. I’ve never detected cornmeal in their batter. But not all Church’s are equal. Some are not as well maintained. We happen to have a good one.

At my good one, I just get that flaky, greasy delicious goodness. So crunchy!

Fried okra side never makes it all the way home.

I grew up near Berkeley and there was a Church's right across the street from a McDonald's. It's kind of weird though as it closed a few years ago and is still just sitting there abandoned with a for lease sign. There's an empty lot across the street. However, just a short block away in either direction there are successful businesses and that McDonald's is always busy.

The only other Church's in the area is a few miles away and still open. The last time I was there was because I needed to go to the nearby DMV to replace a lost driver license and after it was over I needed to take the bus home. But it seemed pretty cheap and I was hungry. I remember that place from my childhood, and other than new signage it still seems like the greasy spoon I remember.

I've tried the fried okra. Okra is always kind of slimy though. For something similar, I prefer the fried zucchini at Carl's Jr. Does Hardee's have that?

We have a KFC, a Popeyes and a Raising Cane's all in a row. We call it the chicken strip! hahaha

RC is my favorite, though I do like Popeyes and Chic fil A. Our KFC is terrible!

I'm originally from New Orleans and I do love my Popeyes! Haven't tried one of the sandwiches yet.

I love their white meat/spicy chicken, biscuits and mashed potatoes with gravy. We never order the combos that come with the drink - we get the meal (no drink) and it is a little cheaper. They do seem to be on the expensive side, but so is Chick-fil-a. IMHO, Popeyes is way better!

We ate that last night! DS’ (16 mos) favorite food is the mashed potatoes!

they are on the expensive side - but we only go there with the coupon from the Val-Pak. I get 2 10 piece meals (one tenders and bone-in) for under $30. perfect for dinner and then everyone takes some for lunch the next day. I wouldn't go to Popeye's without a coupon

Since I am in Baton Rouge I eat plenty of Cane's. I would much rather go there than CFA.

I remember when Canes was a special thing that you could only get at the one by campus. Couldn’t get it when I went home to NOLA!
