Popeyes chicken sandwich. Is it that good?

There are quite a number here too but the service is kind of a gong-show. Doesn't matter how many or few people are in the store, it takes 10 or more minutes to get in and out. That's too long for fast food as far as I'm concerned. The Calgary Airport has the only Chick-Fil-A in Canada, which is a really weird place for it, if you ask me. I've never had their food fresh as intended - only what's been brought to me by family or friends who are arriving.

I just heard there’s a Chick-Fil-A opening up in downtown Toronto this month. But I’m more likely to drive across the border then drive downtown. Lol.

I go to Mary Brown’s Fried Chicken for a chicken sandwich. I think that’s a Canadian chain. I don’t go often, but I think their chicken sandwiches are comparable to Chick- Fil-A.

Yeah I always thought Popeyes tasted the same up there too. “Up there” lol! I have never eaten it out of state though. If you’re talking about the one of hwy 73 by Dutchtown HS we used to go there a lot & it was always good! After Katrina my dad lived in St. Gabriel for a while. I also worked at Hunt Correctional! That was an experience!

Yep that’s the one! I live about 2 miles from it!

That's cute! :teeth:

Yeah, from what I know Mary Brown's is a chain from the Maritimes. There are a few here. I'm not really a chicken sandwich person so I really wouldn't know which is best. When we pick up chicken it's always just regular fried chicken.

I only go on Big Mary Monday. That’s their cheap chicken sandwich day. :P
Otherwise I get a bucket of chicken from KFC.

Side note-I always hear about the wonderful customer service at CFA, but the 2 here that we frequent are just as much of a cluster as any other fast food place but usually has a longer wait than other places. The only difference I see is they say “my pleasure” after providing the same mediocre service as everyone else.

Definitely not the same here. (I’m in NC). The service is more friendly and helpful than any regular (non-fast food) restaurant I’ve been to. They bring the food to your table and there are always employees wandering around offering to get you a drink refill or anything you need (napkins, sauce, etc)

But the drive through is really the difference. Ours have a minimum of 4 employees outside during busy times. They take your order in person and the line moves shockingly fast, a fraction of the time as any other drive through and there are at least four times as many customers.

I held off going for probably two years after I moved here and assumed the hype was ridiculous, but I was very impressed the first time I went. Double drive through line wrapped around the building and out into the street, but it was just a few minutes.

I have to say inside is like that here too. But, I rarely eat inside at any fast food place so I didn’t think about that. They have a similar process here outside too but only during peak hours. I don’t find it to be any faster or better than the McDonald’s next door. And if it’s not peak times, then waits can be even longer than McDonald’s b/c it’s still fairly crowded, but they aren’t doing the take your order outside thing.

And the CFA on Siegen is terrible IMO. I only use them on game day & used to order catering every home game & they NEVER had it ready on time no matter what I did!! We gave up & just get Canes now.

I think Popeye's is gross. And the one local here is trashy, in a trashy location, and has trashy employees. I hope other locations are better, but this is the first and only one I've ever seen.

CFA for the win!
That’s how the KFCs are here. I think there might be 3 in the whole metro area & they’re all in terrible locations & look absolutely disgusting. Popeyes is as ubiquitous here as McDonald’s or Wendy’s or any other fast food places.

I don't get Chick-Fil-A. I've tried it a few times. Kind of bland I thought. Of course I could ask for sauces and it would get totally doused in it. Also they used styrofoam cups which seemed kind of strange. I haven't seen a fast food place with styrofoam cups in ages, save Sonic. However, they serve frozen drinks.

Where I live it’s completely different. I also live 30 minutes away from headquarters. Where they train employees.

I see what you’re saying. BTW, I also LOVE Popeyes and Church’s for all of my fried chicken needs. I go to the chick for something different. The crack they put in their sauce, for instance.

Same here. And I fought the experience for years. I tried it. They changed my mind. I now use the app and have red status. 😂

I love a curbside pick up. And a peach shake.

Guess we will never know if you haven't had one yet as apparently the entire supply of Chicken Sandwiches for the promotion sold out a month before the promotion is over.

Sort of like McDonalds and the Shamrock shake during St. Patricks day. Usually sold out here weeks before St. Patrick's day. So far out you would think McDonalds could tell their supplies to produce more so they can sell more and make more money., In this era of Amazon Prime deliveries where you can get just about anything delivered in hours, you would think they could ramp up more syrup production with weeks of lead time.

Not only is CFA not good, it actually tastes bad to me. I tried it in a couple locations, including Texas!, and it was consistently awful. The fries are soggy, the chicken is bland and flavorless and the bun is really gross tasting (I generally don't like potato/sweet buns though). They have opened up a bunch of locations here in NYC now and I am always amazed at the lines, I figure it's mostly curious people or transplants who like it from home.

I've always liked Popeye's chicken, and I love their sides, so it is not hard for me to believe that their sandwich is better, though I haven't tried it yet. The quality of their chicken has always been better than CFA.

Not out forever-will become part of the regular menu.

But don't worry, these Popeyes sandwiches aren't gone forever.
"We, along with our suppliers, are working tirelessly to bring the new sandwich back to guests as soon as possible," said Popeyes in a statement. The company said those who want to be notified when they return to stores should download the Popeyes app and "sign up for push notifications.".

I went to a Popeye's once, last year. I got the chicken tenders. They were dry as a desert and the place was filthy. Never again.

I like Chick-Fil-A, but I also have mixed feelings about going to Chick-Fil-A.

Doesn't sound unusual. Franchises often have varying standards. I've been going to a few local ones, and they're clean and the service is pretty good. If they were dry, it was because it was sitting under a heat lamp too long. I got the Tuesday special (leg and thigh for $2.49) yesterday and it was great.

CFA has some of the most stringent franchise standards. Also - I've heard that the parent company really makes the money as the franchisees don't really make much compared to similar business.

Am I the only person on the DIS who has never eaten at Popeye’s or CFA? We have them here. I just haven’t tried them.

Trust me, Popeye's is NOT the same outside of Louisiana. Here in the Midwest, I have to pre-order it to get Louisiana-level spicy. IME, with the possible exceptions of southern Mississippi , South Texas, and the Nashville area (where Hot Chicken is, after all, a Thing), the spicy served elsewhere is generally equivalent to the mild version sold in Louisiana. (I just realized that this post sounds like I'm on a nationwide Popeye's tour, LOL! I'm not, but with an autistic kid, familiarity tends to work well on road trips.)

Also, the "cajun rice" is not quite right in locations where the staff doesn't know what it's supposed to taste like; they tend put too high a ratio of livers in it, to get rid of them. (My test of whether or not a Popeye's location is likely to be good is in ordering that: if you ask for rice dressing and they have to ask what you mean, that's your sign.)

FWIW, I generally like CFA, but I would really prefer it if they didn't bag sandwiches that are being eaten in-house. The bag does keep them hot longer, but it steams the whole sandwich, making it soggy.

BTW, there is an article in yesterday's Times-Picayune on local New Orleans alternative chicken sandwiches. The review gives the crown to Chubbie's (in Algiers)
