Popeyes chicken sandwich. Is it that good?

Lots of Popeye locations around me. Sadly the chicken sandwich never made it to Canada. I’d definitely give it a try, even though I’m not really a Popeyes fan.

Love Chick-Fil-A when I travel through the States. :)

It’s that good here. I’ve heard ppl say that our Popeyes here are better than other locations. So, I can’t say what it’s like other places. Before the official hype, ppl here had been talking about it. I had heard it rolled out here first (not if that’s true). But, it is that good!

I lucked out moving to Dutchtown. We have a slammin Popeyes!!!

Chick Fil A has always been our go to. Love their service and their food.

Our Popeyes isn’t very good (love going to the ones in Slidell and New Orleans)

But, I did try the sandwich and YES it really is that good. It’s more “southern fried” than Chick Fil A. The fried breast used in the sandwich is better than Popeyes usual fried chicken. The breast is cut a little thick for a sandwich but it really is very good.

I live on the West Coast and our Popeyes is terrible. We ate there once and haven't been able to convince ourselves to ever back - it was that bad. Friends have similar stories. My boys both have been to them in the Slidell and New Orleans stores and said it was night and day different and very good there. The only place I've ever been to a Chic Fil A is in airports, so I can't really compare.

I've never been impressed with CFA....I just don't get the hype for them at all. :confused3 But I love Popeye's though, whenever it's a food option we get it, so I can't wait to try their sandwich. We have neither very close to where we live and they are now sold out so who knows when I'll actually get to try it.

The irony about this is that the recipe was developed by the owner of the restaurant in Southern California that got outed as buying Popeye's chicken tenders and selling them as part of their menu.

Well I don’t know why he was buying their tenders if that was his recipe for the chicken in the sandwich. It’s much better.

The best fast food chicken sandwich was the Super Clucker from Farm Basket. I found myself wanting one about a month ago and since Farm Basket doesn’t exist anymore I headed up the street to Popeye’s. To my dismay the location by me doesn’t even serve chicken sandwiches. Or macaroni and cheese. Or half the things they’re purportedly famous for. Seems you can get a bucket of chicken there but not much else.

I actually liked the mid-90s McDonald's chicken sandwiches. They had two version - grilled and crispy and I preferred the latter, although I got the grilled version when I wanted something less greasy. However, the prices that McDonald's has for their "premium" sandwiches is just ridiculous these days.

McDonalds chicken filets they use now are HORRID.
I simply can not even eat them.
Wendy's used to have the best, fresh grilled, non-processed chicken.
I remember their Mozzarella Chicken Sandwiches they used to feature every year. They were delicious.
Sadly, they now use the pre-processed low quality frozen chicken full of additives, preservatives, etc..

I think Popeyes takes care of the chicken, but they took care of the sandwich part. Or maybe I got it wrong. It might have actually been initially sold by that restaurant kind of as a joke.

The chain’s first-ever chicken sandwich — a buttermilk-battered chicken filet on a brioche bun with pickles and mayo — will be sold at Sweet Dixie Kitchen today and tomorrow as a teaser before it lands on Popeyes menus nationwide next Monday, August 12. Popeyes also filmed this commercial with the mastermind of the original chicken hoax, restaurateur Kimberly Sanchez, recounting the story of the scandal and the Yelp drama that ensued. After explaining her partnership with Popeyes on this new product launch, Sanchez remarks that “the universe is having a great sense of humor.”

There are quite a number of Popeye's here too but the service is kind of a gong-show. Doesn't matter how many or few people are in the store, it takes 10 or more minutes to get in and out. That's too long for fast food as far as I'm concerned. The Calgary Airport has the only Chick-Fil-A in Canada, which is a really weird place for it, if you ask me. I've never had their food fresh as intended - only what's been brought to me by family or friends who are arriving.

Nothing will ever beat the Super Clucker. 😂 Farm Basket also had a breaded fried turkey breast with mashed potatoes and gravy. I lived on that when I was pregnant with my oldest. My go to fast food chicken sandwich is Burger King Tender Crisp but it is no substitute for the Super Clucker. Never had a McD’s one. A good chicken sandwich seems to be hard to come by around here.

I think Popeye's is gross. And the one local here is trashy, in a trashy location, and has trashy employees. I hope other locations are better, but this is the first and only one I've ever seen.

CFA for the win!
Same for our Popeye’s here also. I only go there on occasion and their employees are dreadful, always getting things wrong and not really caring that they did. The difference between them and our CFA is like night and day.

We have 3 in our town. The best one still doesn’t have the service of CFA.

But the further south you go from us to New Orleans, the better Popeyes gets. It’s the funniest thing but I would guess it has something to do with the regional manager, perhaps?

But if you happen by one that is decent, really, try this sandwich. It really is that good.

Yeah I always thought Popeyes tasted the same up there too. “Up there” lol! I have never eaten it out of state though. If you’re talking about the one of hwy 73 by Dutchtown HS we used to go there a lot & it was always good! After Katrina my dad lived in St. Gabriel for a while. I also worked at Hunt Correctional! That was an experience!
