POP Century ~ Unofficially the Grooviest FAQ Thread #6 ~April 2012

A couple of questions I can't seem to find answers by using the search function in the forums.

1. Can you buy a box of Cereal, milk, spoons and paper bowls there? I'm thinking about getting box of cereal and milk on site to help speed up breakfast due to their lines.

2. Which Theme Parks are closest to the resort? This would help me with getting to the resort around 2 PM on arrival day to see which park to see the first day.

1. Yes, you can buy cereal and milk in Everything Pop. I think the cereal comes in ready-to-eat packages not a full-size box. Spoons are available at the utensil dispensers. Paper bowls, I don't think so. How about packing a box of cereal to bring with you? For our in-room quick breakfasts, we pack bagels and a jar of peanut butter, and grab jam packages from Everything Pop. Also some people like to use a grocery delivery service (I have no experience with that).

2. Hollywood Studios is the closest and Epcot is the second closest.

:lmao: There ya go!!!!!!!

I posed your very question to the CM adding my (drum roll here) 5% (cymbol crash here) discount :woohoo: and her response was simply that POP & Movies are more popular than Music & Sports.

IOW, they DON'T have to discount them :rolleyes1 and we oughta be dang happy to get that 5% (she really didn't say that). I ended up saving $40, if I'd moved to Music or Sports I would have saved another $115 - our differences must be due to dates & weekend since you're saving $200. I felt for the 3 of us $115 over 7 nights, for $16-17 more a night I wanted to try POP but honestly, I really did like music & you probably will like it to.

Just not as much as POP

PM me if you have any questions about ASMu :thumbsup2

This is the kind of thinking that gets me into trouble. :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

You are right... It is great that they do discount rooms and I really am grateful even if I don't sound like it at the moment. :lmao:

I appreciate the offer of info about ASMu. I will take you up on it if I think of questions. I am trying to be strong and stick with ASMu. If I can just hold out for awhile maybe the AP rooms at POP will be gone and I will have to stay with ASMu. :thumbsup2

Yes! POP does sell a 1/2 gallon of milk ($2.99 as of 6/2011). Cannot remember if POP sells a loaf of bread, but you can purchase slices (2 per package) near the bakery items in the food court. :)

If you require more groceries than what POP sells just stop in a hotel that has DVC (BC, BW, WL, Contemporary (on monorail line), or the best selection I think is the campgrounds)

Can you buy any type of groceries at the store in POP? The only thing I want to get is a gallon of milk to keep in our fridge for my girls to drink in the mornings while getting ready. We will not have a car...so just wondering if that is a possibility??? (Maybe a loaf of bread for PB&J's too?)

1/2 gallons of milk are avail. I don't know about a loaf of bread. you can buy slices but for a whole loaf you might have to go to a resort that has DVC.

So excited! Our trip is almost here, and I am starting to really think about room location etc. I have a question, for those that have more experience as we have never been there. I've heard of people mailing down welcome letters before you go for the hotel to put in the room ahead of time to be in your room at arrival. Do you know if POP would accomodate something like that? Also, I was thinking of doing pillow cases for my kids with some name fills that the folks at the DISigns board have come up with for me. Do you think if I send them down ahead of time with the welcome letters the staff could have them in the room for us? This is a surprise trip for my kids and I'm trying to make it as special as possible. It would be so fun if there were welcome letters and pillowcases for them in the room when we arrived. Thanks!

Sounds like our requests :) ... both great locations:thumbsup2

charliesmom86 ...lakeview request will most likely find you in bldg either in the courtyard facing the 60s (closer to pool) or the backside directly facing the lake (a little bit further). Overall do not believe it is a huge difference, but everyone views these things differently. These standard rooms are quite nice in these 2 areas and convenient to Classic Hall and busing. :)

mouse2mouse ... one of my favorite visit was when we were in Bldg 5 lakeview, 4th floor. You will love having a room in the 60s! A close walk to the pool, Classic Hall and busing!!

Thank you so much! We are traveling with a party large enough for two rooms lol. So can we request connecting, 70's lakeview? Or is only one request allowed? I know we may not get the request at all but just wondering how to word the request when I call. Also we are 11 days out..and I haven't requested..should I request now or wait till 5 days out?

Put in the request now. I believe you can put in 3 requests ... just put them in order of importance.

You're very welcome!! :goodvibes

GG gave you good advice :thumbsup2  Linda!

Our party is getting 2 rooms in August and our requests will be very similar, we are hoping for connecting, 60s, lakeview. :thumbsup2

This is very interesting ...would like to know as well. :) Just a thought, do you think that sending personal items like pillow cases might possibly end up misplaced??

IF Disney can't guarantee holding/handling items besides mail, maybe someone in your party can go ahead of the others and place items brought from home in the room before the kids enter. :)

Thanks everyone. I will call today. As far as putting things in the room, I would hate if things got lost or didn't get put in the room..so we are going to go ahead of the rest of the party while they explore and decorate the room. :)

Its our first visit, should we do online check in or do it at the resort? We won't be arriving til night time on the first day so I'm thinking the room would be ready anyways.

I would echo what other people have said and plan to take care of this yourself. There's always the possibility that when you check in, you may not be happy with the room location that you've been assigned so you may want it to be changed. I always take gift bags to put in the room from Mickey & Minnie for our kids. I usually just have my husband take the kids out of the room (to explore the resort or head down to lunch/dinner) and I lag behind for a few minutes and set everything up. That way I know nothing gets lost.

All I have to say is TGIF and COME ON AUGUST!

:thumbsup2 I SECOND that!!!

Probably been asked already but are the Goofy Jets closed for good?

Unfortunately, yes, :sad2: I can't imagine Disney will bring them back ... there was always so many issues with the POP Jets working properly even before Disney closed it down. And Disney has turned this area into a scene resembling a beach. Goofy & the car received some TLC in the form of a face lift for Goofy (cleanup up and painted) and the car was been detailed (aka repainted!) Rubber matting covers the jets and is painted to correspond with the beach look. Believe this area is intended for scenic purposes and of course photo opps. :)

First, I just want to say BRAVO to the thread keeper, JanetB, for a FABULOUS page 1 :worship: We have not stayed at Pop since 2008 so this info was much appreciated to refresh my memory on buildings, room pics etc. How exciting about the mini fridges now!!

We are planning on POPing (;)) down in early August and I was wondering about pool activities. Do they normally have some in the afternoons, and which pool would they be at- Hippy Dippy?

Also, is it the general consensus that AoA will have its own buses and not share with Pop?

Thanks! :goodvibes

Can you buy a case of water at the gift shop and how much is it? Debating whether to do this or order stuff from garden grocer.

No one is 100% sure on the bus situation yet.

The activities at the hippy dippy pool started around 1230 pm last year. The movie started at 8 pm. I think at certain times the movie starts at 9 pm.

Subbing to this thread  I'm planning my fifth Disney World Stay September of 2013 (hopefully they will do free dining again) at POP. This will be my first time staying at POP so I am really looking forward to it.

I am hoping to find a new Value home. I am an ASsports girl but my last trip (just a couple of weeks ago) there were cheerleaders and dance troupes there and let me tell you they were RUDE. Cheering at all hours of the night, nobody could sleep, it was awful. Anyways other than that my vacation was fabulous but I am definitely looking for a new Disney Home. ::yes::

This past visit was my DD8 first Disney trip and she is so sad it's over I decided to surprise her with another trip next year and it's not going to be just the two of us this time. My mother, brother and his fiance are coming along as well! I am not planning on telling her until the morning we leave so I hope I can keep the secret that long. This will be my first time visiting in September so I am hoping it's a nice time to go :) Anyways, I have read this whole thread and a big :thumbsup2 to Janet and everyone else for being so knowledgeable about POP. This next year and 4 months needs to go by fast! :lmao:
