Point clean-up at 7 month window -- question

We currently hold a 200 pt reservation at BCV (using 2002 BCV pts) in January. We are now at the seven month window for this reservation.

If we call MS and there is availability at BCV, can we take back some of our 2002 BCV points, and use some remaining 2002 HH points in place of these BCV points. Also, can we in borrow some 2003 HH pts to take back a few more 2002 BCV points.

We are hoping to clean up some straggler HH points this way, and accumulate some additional BCV points.

At the seven month window, you can use any DVC points in any combination for any DVC resort, right????

I believe if there is availability you can do it, you will basically cancel the reservation you have now and redo it.

Yes you can. If the type of room you want is currently available, you can book it at the 7 month window using the HH points. Cancel the corresponding days with the BCV points and link the reservations. As I'm sure you already know, what you can't do is substitute one set of points for another if there is no availability.

I think I know the answer to your question because I just talked to Garth at MS on Friday regarding this:

Garth (I think there was a thread several months ago about him) told me the following:

You can swap points if:

both your BCV and HH contracts have the same use year, and
there is not a waiting list for the night that you are swapping.

Therefore, you can go through each night with MS to see if any night is free of any waitlist and then you can swap that particular night's points between BCV and HH.

I believe you can borrow HH's points also, as long as the above condition is met.

Garth checked with his supervisor before he told me the answer. So I think this is probably right. Also, this sounds like a fair policy.

Dean and other people are right. the use year does not matter in this case.

You won't be able to return any points you may have borrowed from the 2003 BCV contract so if there are any borrowed points involved, make sure you tell MS to give you back the points you can bank. Also remember you are not that far away from the 100% banking window though I doubt it will matter in this case.

The use year for each contract would apply in terms of points availability and in the banking/borrowing scenarios but not for the ability to make the reservation.
