December Dreams - Dec. 2025 W.I.S.H. Thread

I couldn't figure out what reaction emoji to use, @Summer2018 -

It's so wonderful that the little girl in your class was speaking :dogdance:

and so sad that normal circumstances prevent that for her. 😢

Educated has such a history of over correction - we went so far to include students who could be and hadn't been that now we're including students who are directly hurting other students. It's too much.

Social Saturday ~~~

Inspired by a pancake breakfast we went to for one of the lodges,

what holiday social events are you attending this year?

I was invited to three events, but I am attending none. I am just not feeling it this year.

The first was a charity gala that took place last night, and I am so glad I didn’t go. It was freezing out and I was exhausted. I declined the school party because I don’t like the venue. I said, ā€œnoā€ to another event because I just don’t have the social battery for small talk.

I used to be a party girl. I am a lot more selective now. It needs to be the right people at the right time in the right place with the best food and drinks for me to dress up and go out at night.

I went to said pancake breakfast yesterday morning, and there is another (different Lodge in the district) next weekend. Last night was a dinner / gift card drive with an oldies band. Today I am going to a Polar Express themed show with the twins and their mom, and last Wednesday, I helped decorate a tree for one of those charity raffle things. - It's definitely way busier at this time of year than my usual social calendar!

It’s been a busy week and the next few weeks are equally busy. DH and I had theater tickets for water for elephants last night and it was a great show. Never read the book or saw the movie so went in only knowing it had something to do with the circus.
Was flipping through the latest issue of food network magazine and found the Hanukkah section of the Holiday recipes included babka! Every online recipe I found looked very intimidating but this looks manageable albeit time consuming. So I may try that next weekend. I want a recipe in my back pocket in case the bakery we have purchased from in the past stops being available at the local specialty market. I know mine won’t be as amazing but having a close proximity would be nice.

Welcome to a new week wishers, what is motivating you?
I love this! I tell this to my kids all the time!

(By the way, if you saw my classroom, especially my Art cabinet, you would be shocked by the variety and amount of glitter and glitter glue I have.)

I am motivated to eat healthy in the midst of endless treats so that I can at least maintain my weight during the holidays.

This week I'm motivated to get out of the house for more than a walk to the mailboxes. How does the saying go... I'm so sick and tired of being so sick and tired. I feel like the holiday season is flying by out there without me and I'd like to at least catch the tail end of it..

Topic Tuesday. I stumbled on this quote and it struck me as the potential for looking silly has affected my wellness journey in the last. Has this been an issue for you on your wellness quest or in other areas of life?

I agree this holiday season is going fast! I like when Thanksgiving is a bit earlier.

And I love that Amy Poehler quote! - Sometimes I don't mind looking a little silly at all, but I am more likely to do yoga if nobody is home. - I prefer the kids' channel to the adult one, and I would feel funny if DH and DS were watching.

I think I am finally over that, but I think it comes with age and life experiences. I remember being very concerned about that when the gym I was going to eliminated the women’s area and opened it up to men.

Now I don’t care about what anyone thinks. If someone has a problem with me and how I am, they can pound sand.

I spend most of my days being silly in order to entertain my students and make learning fun. The district director of literacy popped in my classroom last week unannounced right after our elf, Jingle, had been introduced. Everyone was jovial, and she sucked all of it out of the room when she didn’t smile and join in on the joy. So we carried on, got serious for her, and delivered an excellent literacy lesson. I wasn’t embarrassed or self-conscious, because if a cheerful Kindergarten teacher and her students turn her off, that’s her problem, not mine. My stellar reputation in the district speaks for itself.

Yesterday, my troubled student came back in the worst shape I have seen him in two weeks. I will spare you the details except to say that after an extremely violent episode, he slept for 6 hours. After he fell asleep, I reported his mother to DCF.

I don't think I get hung up on looking silly, but it does bother me to look old. There's a gym next to my massage place that I was interested in, but one day a class was in session when I walked by and I was all "nope, not doing fitness classes with hip young things".

I made it into the office this morning, so far without any coughing so fingers crossed that continues. It feels good to get out of the house, that's for sure.

I very much worry about what people think of me so looking silly has hindered me. I am getting better at it but sometimes I need a bit of a push. Working out at the gym I feel silly because I don't know what I am doing. I have started to change my thoughts to if I am doing something wrong maybe they will see and help.

@Summer2018 I feel so bad for your student. I can't imagine not getting the help my child needs or even fighting to help them.

Woohoo... past me put a reminder on my Outlook calendar that this weekend is the monthly Ravelry Meet-up at the yarn sore, and I'll be done with my card reading by the time it starts. It's almost like someone knows how to plan.

And woohoo... this latest bug appears to be just a regular cold virus, as it is now day nine and has pretty well run its course.

I am woohooing having lunch with a good friend today. She was actually my boss 19 years ago at the daycare and our boys are the same age and have been friends. Later our boys were on the same tee-ball team and other sports as the years went on. Then she worked with me for a few years where I am at now. We don't always get to see each other not that I don't have kids in school (we would catch up at the kids activites a lot) so we try to get together every now and then for lunch.
