December Dreams - Dec. 2025 W.I.S.H. Thread

WOO HOO! Yesterday was a half day!
WOO HOO! We had an extra one-on-one staff available to work with my aggressive student.
WOO HOO! My professional development was manageable.
WOO HOO! Volunteering at the school’s Holiday Spectacular turned out to be fun.
WOO HOO! I have Friday night off so tonight is the last night I have to work this week.

At Thanksgiving there was a conversation with the non-locals about how we don't use umbrellas around here, you just pull up your hood and get on with it. While that is true, I do own several umbrellas, and with today being at least day seven of heavy rain, I pulled one out for the commute to work. It was a delightfully magical little tent that followed me where ever I went, and I arrived at the office relatively dry. So I am thankful for whoever invented the umbrella... which was most likely someone who lived in China over 4000 years ago. I hope they got a patent on it.

I am thankful that I got my flu and covid shots. I’m surrounded by very sick kids and adults who did not. For most people it’s an option. For me, my doctor has made it mandatory. I’m thankful that I listen to the experts.

I’m thankful that the one-on-one staff came back this morning. My aggressive student was without support for only one hour and he caused tremendous trouble in that short period of time.

DD lives with her boyfriend now and she was in the ER with him last night. I got a call at 2 asking what they should do. He had a fever that was going up with Tylenol. Within 15-30 minutes it went from 101 to 102 with the Tylenol in him for 2 hours. He has Covid. I am sure she will get it as well. She does get some immunity from her antibody infusions. THankfully today is her last final exam but I am guessing she will not be starting her new job next week. It is working in a nursing home. She works at Culvers right now and it sounds like they all have it. She told her boss she wasn't going to be in tomorrow and he said she has to go in because they are getting to many call offs. The illnesses are getting bad here too. I told DD that she can't come to our house right now but if they need anything I will do a porch drop off.

So thankful it is Friday. It has been a long week. Tonight we are going to dinner with friends for her birthday. Then the rest of the weekend will be finishing my wrapping, packing, and cleaning the house. It is supposed to get pretty nasty here Saturday and Sunday. Looks like we may get like 4-6 inches of snow. This might be the first white christmas for us in a long time. With the cold we are getting, the snow is going nowhere anytime fast. The real temp is supposed in the single digits on Sunday. Thankfully there is no bad weather on Monday for our drive.

Normally Friday is my work from home day, but I took that Monday because I was still feeling yucky, so I had to drag myself into the office this morning... I'm giving myself a gold start for making it.

Big plans for the weekend... tomorrow I have my tarot card reading, haven't done that for a couple years and am really looking forward to it. Then it is either joining the meet-up at the yarn store or finishing my Christmas shopping in town. I'm down to just the little stocking stuffer type stuff, so it should be fun to see what I can find. Sunday I may bake some cookies to bring in to work.

In addition to the usual weekend chores, I will be baking dozens of sugar cookies.

It was another challenging week so I have been doing a lot of art projects. I taught the kids how to cut out snowflakes, and we created a bulletin board with them. We have to decorate a door for the school’s contest, so we kept cutting them. I have found it to be very therapeutic, so I find myself cutting out snowflakes every spare moment.

What is your plan this Sunday?
Self-care today will be hanging out by the tree and watch a Christmas movie over coffee this morning... and shoveling snow later. (I'm weird, I know, but I love being outside after the sun comes out and everything is sparkling. Plus, it's more interesting exercise than walking on the treadmill.)

Self care will be trying to get away from the news. I just heard about the awful events in Australia while watching the latest on the attack in my home state at Brown. Today is a tough one and trying to balance the need for info while not bombarding the kids with broadcast after broadcast will be a balancing act

13/14 on the quiz, I've forgotten which one I got wrong.

Today I'm channeling my inner Dory... just keep swimming. We had a bit of a break over the weekend, but the heavy rains are back this morning. Lots of areas are already flooded, more water isn't going to be good.

The card reading was everything I had hoped for and more. Basically 2026 is going to be a big life changing year, in the best possible ways. It helped me to shift the way I was looking at a few things and has helped me break free of the funk I've been in.
