Please, have a LITTLE consideration

It's kind of a mantra on the boards, what to do on Castaway Cay. Get off early, get a place to sit, then go directly to the snorkel cove before the water gets kicked up too much and you can't see anything. That's what we did, and I'm sure that lots and lots of others did the same. We walked all the way to the end of the family beach to get a spot (with a hammock and a tree, I'm sun sensitive), and walked all the way back to the snorkel cove right after. When we were done snorkeling, we went back and enjoyed our spot for the rest of the day, except for getting lunch. Sorry, I think this was just fine. Diana

Diana, that describes what we did EXACTLY. We were off the ship almost immediately and had to keep walking and walking to get a free hammock, but we did, and then went back to get our rental stuff, and headed out to snorkle right away! :) We enjoyed the hammock about 45 mins after we initially set our stuff down, and stayed in it quite a bit. :)

You know what concerns me, though. I had heard a rumor here that they were removing hammocks from Castaway Cay, because people were fighting over them! Apparently, this isn't the case, but I could see it happening if someone like the OP removed the belongings of someone like us, and took the hammock while we were snorkeling. Diana

The4ofus and dancind, I dont think people are upset at what you described. They are upset about people who put there stuff on chairs or hamocks first thing in the morning just for the sake of having one and have no intention of using them at all. We are not saying that you have to be in your hammock the entire day. At least i'm not ;) I was complaining about people who reserve five chairs at the crowded pool and go to lunch for 2 hours and expect them to still be available. I like the post by the guy who said when he intends to leave his hammock for a while he invites the people around him to "borrow" it. That is what my family did with the chairs at the Mickey pool.

My youngest was potty-trained last year, but I have a question after all the 'yuck' posts about pools and potty trained kids.

I read that no potty-trained children allowed in pools, when my youngest was almost trained last summer, I bought those bathing-suit type diapers....
I asked at the pool we went to if it was okay for him to wear these, they stated that they were fine or a diaper with the rubber pants over it.

Maybe those young children had those on, or is that not allowed in the pools on the ship?

I ask because my friend (who has a daughter who may not be trained when they go) was hoping to be able to bring her daughter into the pools.

Thanks.

No swimpers or diapers of any kind are allowed in the pools. They do have an "ear" of the Mickey pool that is reseved for no toilet trained children. It's a miny splash pad with continuous running water.

We saw an older gentleman with a toddler in diapers taking him into the Mickey Pool. One of the life gaurds informed him of the rules and asked him to remove the child. His response was rude and (in polite language) basically was that he was just a kid and was going into the Mickey Pool. The life gaurd looked him straight in the eyes and said "You can take him to the right ear sir, or be banned and removed from the pool area." The man, unhappily, took the child back to the ear. :D It was great to see the CM's enforcing the rules.:teeth:

No swim diapers are allowed in the pools. Kids must be completly potty trained, swim diapers can still leak. One of Mickeys ears is designated for swim diapers though. The water is constantly filtered. If a CM sees you in a regular pool with a swim diaper they will ask you to get out. They are really strict about this rule. The kids do have quite a bit of fun in the ear though. :D

I'm with you Princess49!

I run a home daycare and it is unbelieveable how many parents have rushed thru the door this winter with I'm running late Bye, and 5 minutes later I have a sick child High fever, vomiting etc. (I have had it all this winter.)

The most important things I teach the children are sharing and caring but how do you do this when it is really the adults who role model for their children! I guess that is the bottom line, it is up to the parents to instill manners::yes::

Wouldn't it be great if manners could be role modeled on the Disney Cruise:earseek:

All I am gonna say is on coco cay (RCCL) we go there early had a hammock (I am sun sensitive) got up put all our stuff in th ehammock went to get some water and potty (gone 10 minutes tops) came back ourstuff was under the hammock and someone was in it O went to get tour stuff and made the comment to them that we did n9ot appreciate all our towles being dumped on the floor and dripped on they daid sorry no seat saving and I just smiled and said no problem we would be happy to share however sharing impies that it is done wit h manners and politeness Bullying is when yu force your way into a situation and I for one believe in sertting a good example for our kids and walked away to an open mouth.....
Just remmeber that we all need to be respectful and on a beach people are in the water enjoying the beach etc... if you were at home ona beach would you pick up someone elses blanket and move it so you could have there spot?? I know people abusethe situation but... it is jsut a chair...
ok off my box now sorry

:wave2:
You all are scaring me!!!! Going on my first cruise next month, and hearing about all these rude people!!
I know they all seem to flock to Florida (rude people) I have run into many at the parks. I remember getting to a nice spot for the parade nice and early so we could see, and then when it's almost time you get those rude people giving you elbows to be in the front! makes me so mad!
I hope I don't run into too many rude people on the cruise, but looks like I may. I read a comment where it said parents now a days don't watch there children. Hope you really didn't mean every parent :teeth: I am a young stay at home mother (24) bringing my non potty trained daughter. She will not be going in the regular pools, she will be hanging out in the designated mickey ear. I am fine with this, and can't see how some people wouldn't be. I know my daughter will have much more fun playing in the water where she doesn't have to be held, and can also play with other young kids around her age.
Thanks for listening to me :teeth:

Honestly, we didn't run into many rude people on board at all, and if we did, it was more than likely a teen ager! DH was pushed badly by one teen girl who was fighting with her parents about not taking "one more formal night picture!!" - she almost knocked him over! And when the kids did the show on the last day, I had some of those "too cool for school" teens and 'tween boys sit next to me, and try to make fun of the kids on the stage...I said something to them, because I'd expect someone to say something to MY kids if they were acting like jerks...they stopped, and then started applauding along with the rest of us. Good thing too, let me tell you...

Where we DID see rude people was on the excursions and getting on/off the ship...then it seemed to be "everyone for themselves" and lines, which many waiting in patiently, were apparently only there for SOME of us. And if they were rude, they were over the top rude, to the point of being ridiculous, so we tried to ignore them and laugh it off.

The ones saving the chairs? Well, as I never SAW any of the "owners" of those chairs and the towels that were on them, I can't say if they were rude or not! *grin*

But in general, honestly, the atmosphere on board was like a big friendly community, with strangers talking to one another at the slightest little thing...people who cruise often tend to be the outgoing, gregarious happy types who like to share, and we're all there for the same reason, to share in the Magic...so that's what I paid attention to. :)

:firefight This is for everybody that thought they would get flamed, should have gotten flamed or just don't know the difference.

Okay, a quick question: Are the hammocks at CC that amazing that 'we' should be running off the ship in order to save one that we might not use all that much anyway? Is there like a CM waving a palm leaf and serving grapes that I should be preparing for that mad dash to reserve mine? :teeth:

Seriously though, wouldn't it be just as easy if people only went to a hammock WHEN they were going to be using it. If you're in the water, or on a bike or feeding your face, obviously you're not in a hammock, why not let someone else use it?

And the same for chairs at the pool. Let me just put it out there for everyone, YOUR KIDS DON'T NEED A CHAIR AT THE POOL! It is a very few children I have ever seen, take time to lie in the sun to get a nice tan before returning to school. Let's be serious, pile your kids stuff on the end of your seat or bring a beach bag. Let a parent that's watching a kid or that wants to lie in the sun and read, have that chair that is going unused. And if you don't plan to be in your chair or even in the pool area for hours on end, then don't get upset when one of us piles your stuff in a corner. When your towel is still folded and unwet, and there is just a single sandle lying on a chair, it's obvious you're not there.

Hey Kristy don't be worried, but you WILL encounter rude people!! We do our best to ignore them & laugh it off. I am also a stay at home mom and am 25, hoping we are starting the parenting revolution of those who DO watch their children & teach them to follow rules & respect, etc. etc....BUT not seeing TOO many others out there!! Good to know you are there!!

We did unfortunately encounter two women bringing their INFANTS (NO WAY they could pass for potty trained) into the Mickey Pool & NO ONE said ANYTHING to them!!! When they did it on the first day I mentioned it to the nearest CM, but they just called someone on their radio & I don't think anyone asked them to take the babies out, because they were there on the 2nd & 3rd day as well!! These were the same ladies who used 5 chairs in front of the Mickey Pool for their belongings & food & WHATEVER!!!?? It was a good opportunity to explain to my 5 year old son why it is important for us to keep his sister (1 1/2 years old) in the designated Mickey ear!! ANYWAY...we did not let it ruin our time, though it did cut short our time in the Mickey pool, my son would just go on the slide for a while (the two are not connected).

Our best "inconsiderate" person moment was on the elevator, we were in the elevator, got to our floor & when the doors open these two couples walked right on, like we weren't even there!! As the door started to close, we said "EXCUSE US!!" and they turned around "what is it?" Needless to say we were not very polite, had to explain to these four grown adults about common courtesy!!?? Can only imagine how their children behave?

The best way for me to "alert" some of these people to their behavior is to explain LOUDLY to my son why it is not polite to do what they just did, they usually just give me a look, since they don't seem to have the nerve to say anything to me with my kids there!!

It stinks being the one who has respect for other people sometimes, seems like they get everything while you are still there waiting!!?? But you have to think in the end we will all get what we deserve!!??

I just dont think that you should let rude people bother you. Their bad karma will come back to them eventually. "What goes around comes around". Feel sorry for ignorant people who embarass themselves by acting rude and enjoy your vacation. There will always be other good, courteous people who you can have fun with :D

LOL! Don't I wish! Sign me up for that one!!

I guess my only comment is that the hammock we had was set up right next to a group of chairs, 2 loungers and 2 regular chairs...so if someone were to come use the hammock they'd be basically joining us for the day, do you see what I mean? It's like they're placed so that there's a little "grouping" - 2 loungers, 2 chairs, 1 hammock, and either a tree or an umbrella. Our hammock was actually directly in the sun.

And one of the reasons we did use the hammock as well is because after we got there and found a place for our little family of four, including the hammock which we all took turns in, we had a family of 8 adults and 4 little kids sit next to us...they raided all the other "groupings" of chairs nearby and basically pushed our stuff to the side so they could sit side by side. 8 loungers takes up alot of room!! And yes, you guessed it, only 2 were used on a regular basis. *sigh* They were very nice once we started talking to them, but believe me I muttered under my breath when they literally invaded our space...you couldn't walk between our loungers and theirs, one of theirs touched the side of one of ours, and it definitely frustrated me at first.

Are the hammocks that great? Well, they're regular rope hammocks, but on our cruise it was my birthday on Castaway Cay day, and what could be better than turning 37 on a Bahamian island, swinging in a hammock and sipping a tropical drink while the kids frolicked in the sea... *wink*

We encountered our share of rude people on the cruise...I'm hard pressed to remember them, however, what I do remember is sitting on the verandah with Greg, sipping some wine at the end of the day; my children's big, wide grins the entire four days; that nice "pampered" feeling.....our mantra the entire time was WE'RE ON A DISNEY CRUISE! and we didn't let the small stuff get us down. I know that's easier said than done sometimes, but enjoy the sun and have a great time.

I have read that sometimes the designated Mickey Ear is overrun with older completely potty trained rough -housing kids. Is this true? I dont think its fair that our infants and toddlers have to share this space. Why they would want tobe there in the first place is beyond me. I do plan on only using the Mickey ear for my 22 mo. old but if there are maniac kids in the ear I will say something.

I loved your comment about saying things LOUDLY to your children to get a point across, I do that too!

This past cruise, I was happily shocked at the # of older adults that came up to me and complimented me, and my children, on how they acted at dinner and in other areas. We were late seating for dinner, and on the "mostly adult" rotation LAPLAPL, and I seriously had no fewer than 3 different tables of all adults come up to us and say how pleasant and polite my children were at dinner, especially on formal night. I couldn't fathom it really, I mean they were just being what *I* would expect any kid to be in a restaurant...but reading some of these things I guess I can understand it now! We made sure the kids knew how proud we were of them for how well they stuck by their manners on board, here's hoping it's a lasting lesson! :)

It's funny, I admit to using some of the other passengers as "lessons" with my daughter in terms of appropriateness of dress and so on...thank goodness for ONCE my 11-going-on-18 yr old AGREED with me! *grin*
