I am so confuzzled!

When I go on the WDW reservation site, I can pull availablity for certain resorts, but as soon as I add the dining plan, they are no longer available. If I take the dining plan off, it magically becomes available again. Why does the dining plan affect the availability to book a room

Are you trying to book room only or package? Dining is not available with room only.

The likely reason is that they only are allowing a certain number of packages with dining.

An agent explained to me this past week that i needed to book a room with a park pass in order to get the dining package.
If I just wanted a room-- the dining is not available to me.

(what about people who already have tickets but not a room? i thought we could add the dining package when booking the room/

As stated you must book a Package in order to add the dining plan. A Package includes at least ONE DAY base ticket per person. If you already have tickets, you can keep the one day and use it on a future trip or if you get APs you can use it toward the cost of AP renewal.

You cannot book room only and the dining plan.

What happens if you have the AP??Can you still add on the DDP?

If you have an AP, you can only book the dining plan if you are willing to purchase a package with a 1-day ticket. You CAN NOT get the AP discount on the room. The only discounts available with packages are the ones Disney promotes or a AAA discount IF you book with AAA.

Personally, unless it is a FREE DINING offer, the dining plan is not worth it to us. We do better with an AP discount on the room, and purchasing and using DDE card.
