i like the subject matter, especially the way the bike's shadow is, and you definitely feel like you are in the picture

i think you want the bike as the subject but the tree, since it is almost the same size imo fights with it.

i think I would get down lower and shoot up at the bike to punch it up some and blur the back ground just a tad so the trees, especially the big one, are not quite so sharply focused

Ok, here's mine. It was my entry in the photo contest a couple of weeks ago, and perhaps I'm just biased toward the subject ;) , but I thought it would get more votes than it did! Tell me what's wrong with it!

i like the contrast of textures between her smooth skin , the rought wall and the hat (..plus it's really a cute picture )

so i'd assume i'd like it in monochromatic but i think the polka dots, the pins etc just make me wonder what color it is..

so maybe i'd do this one in color and make her face just a little closer

1. I really like the composition and idea of this shot. It just pulls me in for some reason.

2. I know you were wanting the bike to be the subject, but I almost think that I like it better without the bike.

3. Since I like the overall composition, I would simply take the bike out. That's just me though....I can see what you were going for though.

1. I like photos of lights at night time. It is hard not to have motion blur on them, but you did a great job of holding steady.

2. I dont like that the gold glowing trees are towards the middle.

3. I think the photo would be much stronger if you had positioned yourself where the trees are more towards the left...maybe even going off of the photo just a bit.

1.What Works. I think is is nice exposure mix the background is equal to the much closer, brighter objects.

2. Without the shot info I am guessing but I think there is some camera shake. The center of the light balls appears blurry.

3. the light ball sculpture starts with a big mass and has a nice tail which seems to be pointing, or at least draws the eyes in a direction. But the pointing misses the background subject. I do not know if it would work but maybe moving to the right would frame it so the tail points right at the sphere. Also clone away the red neon on the left.

Look for my pics and comment please.

1. Hmmm? A well captured image technicaly.

2. You said it was a hard ride but I do not see a struggle. You mentioned the breeze but I do not see it in the braches or the grass.

3. The view is looking down on the bike (like God view) talking away all of the bike's power. Plus all I see is the front wheel and handlebars. What was so hard about struggling against the breeze? It was not the steering! I need to see more of the the pedals. The overall scene is high in contrast from the brown grass to the green trees. It's confusing.

I can not see any photo in this post. Am I missing something or has it been deleted?

Great thread! I am not good at critiquing, but I will be interested in seeing the replies.

really great: the "epcot" and ball are really clear , especially like the sign ( so it iis good for something after all)

not as great: the ball light trees give me the creeps for some reason, maybe because they look like they are floating?

maybe i'd crop it so the light ball tree things go off the edge of the page and bottom so they are anchored and it would lead the eye better to the ball and sign?

if i ever get a camera that works i'll post one..

I really enjoy this thread too. I'm learning so much from seeing other people's pics and suggestions.

Jann 1033 I love the B & W photo of the little girl in your signature. I know it isn't an official picture for the thread, but I just wanted to let you know how great I think that pic is.

Have a Disney Day!

Focal Length: 28mm (guess: 30mm in 35mm)

I was trying for the water blur.
No real direction of composition?

What I like: Interesting idea-- what you can see of the water looks really nice. Colors are vivid!

What I don't like: I'm not sure what the focus of the picture is supposed to be. It's pretty busy, and the water wheel actually obscures a lot of the water in the creek. The glare of the sun on the rope is also a little distracting.

Suggestions: Maybe the light was a little too bright for a slow shutter speed. The focus of the picture needs to be a little more distinct: should be more of the wheel or more of the water.

Ok, I would love to learn from others, so I'll try my hand at some advice to get on board. ;)

1. I like the connection between the lights and the sphere and I love night lights!

2. The focus of the balls is a bit fuzzy and the extraneous lights on the fringes are distracting.

3. Crop the photo with the lights rising up from the left corner so the sphere becomes more centered and, for next time, a quicker shutter speed to sharpen the lights themselves.

I know there is a lot to fix here. Let me have it so I can get it right next time, please! :)

Hi Demonllama,
I like the composition
It is jsut a very hard scen to capture technicaly. The dyanmic range is very great, from the flash exposed children to the dark background.

Working with the available file size (I hope you do not mind)
I selected the children (very quickly and roughly) and darkened them with a levels adjustment. Then inverted the selection and brightened the background. the adjustments added terrible artifacts around the edges of the selection. That will happen when making major changes to exposure. Or is it my processing technique...? I then ran Noise Ninja to remove some of the noise. It worked well in the sky.

You should feel lucky to have such cooperative (and cute) models!

i love the wheel effect and the flowers behind it add something

i think you are right, just to much going on

so maybe basically cut the picture in 1/2, show the whole wheel( or a little more if you can since it kind of looks chopped off here), the stream closest the wheeel and a little of the greenery on the right bank of the stream... so leave off the front right stream and greenery? you would lose the nice water effect in the right stream so maybe print that as another shot :teeth: 2 for the price of 1 ???

i'd really like it better with the front stream since that lends better to the wheel but not sure how you could get rid of the stream in the middle of the picture.
