Phone Charging Lockers?

stupid questions. Unless you guys all have bad iphone batteries, what are you doing all day that would cause your battery to get empty?


The only time my battery goes totally out is if I am constantly taking pictures, constantly surfing or constantyl playing a game ( like for hours).

Taking pictures is the only thing i could see myself getting in trouble with. I cannot see that many times I am checking MDE or adding a FP will drain by battery???

I can make many phone calls, check a few things online, take pictures and with my phone still has %% the next day

WiFi is very heavy on the battery and especially if you're moving around and it does a lot of connecting/disconnecting. You can turn it off and only switch it back on when you want to use it, of course.

actually I would like the hotels/resorts to have these in the lobbies.. The hilton in Paris once saved my life by having these in their lobby. I had forgotten to pack my charger and cord.... Had to pay a few euros per hour but it was worth it..

Wow! You are lucky! I charge mine fully at night. When I wake up check Facebook, maybe play a game or 2, talk to my dad for 15 mins or so while driving to work, surf a little at work (DIS, Facebook) and text coworkers in our other offices. My phone is dead by 10am and needs to be plugged in. I leave it plugged into my computer and it's charged by the time I go home. Drive home and play a few games while watching tv and surf DIS and Facebook but not for too long and it's dead by bedtime. I have to charge it twice daily. I have a iPhone 4s that I have had maybe 18 months?? It's always had this problem.

Being from another country, I use wifi in the parks to access MDE. Between wifi, taking some photos and some posts to Twitter, my phone is down to 10% within 5-6 hours. I have a Samsung

On my last trip I brought my razr maxx. It was about 2 years old so battery life wasn't what it used to be but when I first got it, it lasted me all day with normal use...even playing games and getting on F a lot. That trip tho, I used my.phone for everything. Took tons of pictures, uploaded them to FB, texted my friends and played candy crush while waiting in lines. Phone was pretty much dead by 1-2.
I highly recommend getting a portable charger. I went big and got an anker 15000, but there are smaller ones that will do the job. I wanted to be able to charge 2 things at once (that way I could charge my friends phone too). I have found the charger has come in handy in real life too...not just at Disney.

I had no idea they had these at WDW, but I did use them at DLR last Christmas. They are in the locker halls at the entrance and even have sync/charger cables inside them. However, if memory serves they did charge a few dollars for it. I now bring a portable charger with me. Works like a charm and definitely comes in handy.

My daughter and I used the lockers, both at Space Mountain and Ray's when we were there 2 weeks ago. We both have i-Phones, one 5 and one 4s. I had read about the lockers and figured we would try them out. We put our phones in the lockers and then went on Space Mountain and a couple of other rides in Tomorrowland. The chargers worked great, but it is true that there are not too many, especially in Space Mountain. The second day we were at MK, as we were exiting Space Mountain I noticed that the entire charging station was covered up, not available for use. At that point I really DID need to charge my phone so we walked over to Ray's. When we got there, we got the last two stations available. So, at this point it is not something that you can count on being available, and it is not really that convenient. If you leave your phone in there and then head on over to Frontierland, then you have to make sure you stop back over to Space Mountain to pick it up. When it is hot and crowded I would probably not want to have to walk "all" the way over to Space to get my phone. Maybe a location near the park entrance would be a little better. And the suggestions for the external charger are probably way more logical anyway.

Have you had your iphone battery last all day at Disney? Mine will last about half a day at the parks because we use it ALOT. Take pictures, Facebook, instagram, tweet, text, look up stuff on MDE, check the weather.......

I don't have a smart phone to not use it how I like...so I could do all the battery saving tips...but most of them basically are "don't use it like it's meant to be used". so I toss in my battery charger and use my phone without worrying about how long it's going to last.

I wouldn't count on having access to them. On our Memorial Weekend 2014 trip, the one in the Space Mountain gift shop was full of green lights which meant they could be used except they were all filled and locked with phones that people weren't picking up.

One woman was sitting by them on the floor waiting for someone to pick up their phone and free up one of the chargers/locker and told me she had been there for an hour and a half so far and would have given up except she really, really needed her phone.

I can't even imagine wasting that much park time considering the cost of a ticket. She would have been better off finding a wall outlet at a CS to plug into if she was going to sit that long anyways.

And yes the problem is since they're not centrally located there is no telling when someone will pick their phone up. Now if they did charge for the locker by the hour then people would pick them up whole lot sooner. Either way, my DH owns his own business so has to have his phone on him in case of an emergency phone call so we take a charging device with us.

We used the Space Mountain lockers one night when we were killing time before camping out for SWW. We left it in there probably an hour or so and it charged fairly fast. It was nice, since it was 11pm at night and neither my boyfriend or myself needed our phones at the time. My charging cord was broken otherwise I would've used my portable charger.

When you say that, are you referring to Sprint 4G specifically or 4G in general? I'm on ATT and I get 4G just fine in and around WDW, and Sprint's coverage maps show both 4G and LTE are completely available in the area.

As for those wondering on how to create battery longevity in smartphones is all dependent on how much you're using the phone and the connection type (LTE, Wi-Fi etc).

I have a Note 3 on the T-Mobile network and the battery is pretty large so I could probably last a good 13-14 hours with moderate usage with it. Probably checking FB, Instagram and occasionally use the MDE app and this is on LTE. If possible turn down the screen light but we all know once the sun is out that its hard to see so, I recommend the "auto" feature for screen brightness. The latest Samsung phones are pretty good with this.

I can't personally speak for iPhones but the basics of screen brightness and going between WiFi and your data service do make a difference.

SN: for Android users if you leave the Instagram app running in the background you will notice that this drains the battery a lot. I usually force close it after double-tapping a few pics. Anyone else experience this? Apps like that can cause low battery life.

My son just returned from a school trip/conference yesterday that included a day a magic kingdom. After being in the park for about 5 hours he and 3 classmates used the lockers near space mountain - he was pleased to have found it and was surprised they were all open. He did not have a credit card - but his disney gift card worked just the same .

Although I've never used the charging lockers for my iPhone, I have had great luck dropping it off at City Hall and asking them to charge it This is also free and it stays there for as long as you'd like. They give you a claim ticket that you present to a City Hall CM when you are ready to pick it up. Of course you are without your phone for the time you leave it there, but if it's dead or in a charging locker, you are still without the phone anyway. The external battery charger is definitely the most convenient option to keep it with you (which is what I do now), but City Hall charging is a great backup plan if you don't have your own charger =)

I was worried about battery life when I went last year. I have an iPhone 4s and if I use my phone at all, I only get a few hours out of it. Maybe 6 hrs, tops. I was going to just try and use the charging stations and lockers around the parks, but I decided to get a Mophie juice pack. Worked out beautifully. I have used it many times on weekend trips, day trips and other excursions. It is a case that covers your phone, with another battery in it. At the parks when my iPhone battery got down to 10%, I just flipped the switch and it would charge it right back up to 100% and I could use the phone while it charged up without missing a beat. I decided to also invest an external battery charger for my iPad Air. Think it is called a Jackery Bar. I just ordered it the other day. I don't think I will be bringing either of my iPads to WDW, but I do take them other places, and this seems like a good solution for me when traveling or going for a day trip where I won't have access to electricity. Or when the electricity goes off at my house, which it tends to do 3-4 times a year. We live out in the country.

I can't speak for anyone else, but MDE drains my battery. I rarely use my phone at WDW, outside of using MDE, and my phone did not make it through the day on any day we were there.
Now, granted, my phone is 3+ years old at this point (can't believe that is old in phone years) so it just doesn't hold a charge like it used to, but MDE uses it up faster than any other app I use regularly.

Just so much easier and more convenient to buy an external battery pack and keep the phone with you. Just got back from a trip with heavy MDE usage, photo taking, and photo uploading and internet checking while in the parks. With our Anker pack, we kept two cellphones charged through it all without having to look for a locker, plug-in, or anything like that. 18 charging lockers in a park that holds 60,000 people is not nearly enough. Our portable pack has been a game changer for us for camping trips, hiking treks, and park touring.

The Cosmic Ray chargers very handy, phone charged about 25% while eating which kept it going past 1am. But, yes there's really not enough of them, I think there were about 20 chargers. 20 chargers, in the largest restaurant in the park.

Don't forget, many phones have swappable batteries. I just take a spare (about the size of a credit card) to the parks with me and if my battery runs low, I just pop it out, put in the new one and I am on my way in 30 seconds with a fresh, full battery. No lockers, cables, charging equipment, looking for electric outlets, etc. I use a Galaxy 4.

We are going in September and I just picked up a 12,000 mAh external charger for my iPhone and his Note3. Also, I was thinking of bringing my DH's old iPod Touch just for DME to run on. I know there is Wifi in the parks, has anyone had bad issues with the wifi?
