Fun fact about usa rugby, the men won the gold in 1924 in Paris.
Maybe this has been asked before, but why is the Olympic swimming pool so shallow? Saw one of men standing in the lane and it looked only waist deep. Wouldn’t that be a problem when they flip at the end of a lap?
Even our chefs are loud when talking about foodSpeaking of non-American broadcasts I've been watching certain events online for years now and you don't realize how LOUD and CONSTANT American commentating is until you watch with Canadian/British/Australian commentators for a while. They're a lot more subdued and only speak when they feel it's necessary. It's like a shock to the system when you switch back over to the American broadcasts it's like OMG do you just like to hear yourself talk? Take it down a notch!![]()
It's 2.15 meters (7 feet) deep. He wasn't standing, he was sitting on the lane divider.Maybe this has been asked before, but why is the Olympic swimming pool so shallow? Saw one of men standing in the lane and it looked only waist deep. Wouldn’t that be a problem when they flip at the end of a lap?
Ok, I looked quickly, but that makes sense. It's 2.15 meters (7 feet) deep. He wasn't standing, he was sitting on the lane divider.
Thanks. I just read that it is slowing swimmers down. Seems like there should be a standard depth for the sake of Olympic and world records, as well as consistency in how the athletes train.I read where it is about as shallow as is allowed and I think it's because it was built as an installation into an arena that is not normally an aquatics center. They are using a lot of temporary venues for this Olympics to keep it sustainable. The Water Polo pool I believe is permanent.
Yeah. I noticed that too. And the fake eyelashes. I’d accidentally rip them out if I had to do a somersault. lol.I noticed tonight the US gymnasts all had long fancy manicures. How do they do all of that and not break them constantly? I can't even handle long nails in my normal desk job life.
That wouldn't affect the commentators I think. Some of their feeds are the world feed vs the American broadcast.
It’s still early. US has plenty of time to earn more gold medals.Egads!!! US only in 7th place in the official medal standings. (Gold standard).

Funny enough F1 is partnered with Sky Sports (British) for coverage here in the U.S. and while the voices may be quieter than the Americans in terms of volume their snark, sarcasm and subtle and not subtle insults and jabs are way more than any of the American commentators I've heard that have done F1. Also for F1 it's normally their job to continue speaking and fill the time. There's a lot of talk that goes on that probably doesn't have to (and don't get them talking about tires lol).Speaking of non-American broadcasts I've been watching certain events online for years now and you don't realize how LOUD and CONSTANT American commentating is until you watch with Canadian/British/Australian commentators for a while. But all of the the prime events will be at prime time where the games are happening. The prime time coverage in the US will be what happened 14 hours previously, at least on NBC. I've been loving the single sport feeds on Peacock. Will be watching them even more next week when wrestling and track cycling starts.OK? So 8P (start of prime time) on the East Coast would be 10A in Australia. I'm guessing there will be at least 4 hours of live coverage on the main network, and those on the Pacific Coast will probably get a lot more.
There is a standard depth for swimming, 2M. In many places the same pool is used for Synchro, which requires 3M. The depth was decided based on how many seats they'd have to block off at the rugby stadium if they made the pool deeper, and the pool is going to be dismantled and used somewhere else after the games.Ok, I looked quickly, but that makes sense.

But short of having all of the Olympics in the Western Hemisphere, there's going to be issues with timing. We can only hope that NBC blows out the Today show to show the "prime events" live (or put them on USA at least). But all of the the prime events will be at prime time where the games are happening.
