Paris 2024 Olympics thread (the opening ceremony is Friday) on NBC/USA network/Peacock and other NBC Universal stations.

With the time difference in Paris, it seems like you can't look at the internet during the day. Watching previously recorded events shown in prime time ruins the suspense if you already know the outcome.
Australia in 2032 will be the same problem. So the two options are don't look at the results and just watch the primetime show or find away to stream the Olympics at work during breaks.

Yeah, that's always been an issue, but at least they are on during the day and not the middle of the night!

LA will be the best case for the USA. Most events will happen before 10pm ET. Brisbane Australia is 14 hours ahead of ET time so most medal events would be on in the morning anyway.

Wouldn't Australia be almost perfect for live events in Prime Time? It's currently 7:20P ET and 9:20A (tomorrow) in Australia. I assume competition starts at 8-10a local time.

True. But Brisbane is 14 hours ahead of ET.

OK? So 8P (start of prime time) on the East Coast would be 10A in Australia. I'm guessing there will be at least 4 hours of live coverage on the main network, and those on the Pacific Coast will probably get a lot more.

Sure, if NBC continues to pay enough, the Australian Olympic Organizers are likely to schedule prime events (swimming, gymnastics, certain track & field) in the morning to accommodate live US prime time broadcasts.

China did in 2008. I’m not sure about Tokyo in 2001.

I'm agreeing with you.

Medal events mostly take place in the afternoon/night. So the live coverage at night 🇺🇸 time would be the events Americans care less about, i.e. non medal events.

OK, so a medal event taking place at say 8p in Australia would be 6a ET? Ending at 10p/8a? I think I'm getting the math right. You'll be able to see it live relatively easily (maybe not the west coast).

Yeah, it was looking good for a hot-minute and the upset would have been awesome, but NZ, man, they are good. Still, I don't think anyone expected Canada to be beating teams like Australia. Heck, the US took the Bronze off of Australia too!

Canada was 3 and 0 against Australia today. Beat them in Men's basketball, Women's 3 on 3 basketball and Rugby 7s
