OK? Can't anyone decide whats more important to them?IOC goes by gold count. Ancient Olympics only counted first place victories.

I like to see the smaller nations succeed to.I honestly do not care one bit about the medal count. I hate how the NBC (and affiliates) coverage is so rah-rah US. I am happy to see the successes of other smaller and less well-funded countries. Irish and Armenian gymnasts, St Lucian runner, Dominica triple jumper. And the Ukrainian gymnasts! I would love to hear more about others rather than the same old same old.
Well the Olympics are based on the ancient tradition so....OK? Can't anyone decide whats more important to them?
You're not answering the question.Well the Olympics are based on the ancient tradition so....
Do any silver or bronze medalists get sponsorships post Olympics? Would Nike agree with you?:Heck, how about a percentage of medal winners compared to athletes (a team would count as one athlete in team competition)?
Weren't the original Olympics performed naked? Did they always have female competitors? Should we only have sports that were included originally?Well the Olympics are based on the ancient tradition so....
I agree that all athletes should be celebrated for there accomplishments but do businesses and countries agree? You're not answering the question.
You're dodging the question. Actually, you're agreeing with me, if you feel Nike can decide who they want to support.Do any silver or bronze medalists get sponsorships post Olympics? Would Nike agree with you?:
I think it depends on the sport in some of those. In swimming I'm hearing about Irish, in rowing I'm hearing about Irish but Ireland is not in many sports. In swimming I'm hearing a lot of Australia and Great Britain. In archery there's a lot of South Korea talk same as in fencing. I'm not sure where you've been watching but I've heard a TON like a TON about Ukrainian gymnasts over and over they have talked about how they are there wanting to show strength and representation during the war times, how when they've been practicing under threats of strikes. Honestly I was hoping to hear about Israel perhaps but I may not be watching the sports where that's being talked about.I honestly do not care one bit about the medal count. I meant in terms of that they only celebrated first place as a country as winning.Weren't the origina

Still not answering the question. Can't someone (or an organization) decide how they want to rank countries?I agree that all athletes should be celebrated for there accomplishments but do businesses and countries agree?
Doesn't the BBC have a team GB focus? RTE an Irish focus? Rtve a Spanish focus? RAI an Italian focus? It's pretty common among Western countries.I think it depends on the sport in some of those. While I do think there is a US centric focus on some things I also think some of it is either not watching all the sports (which I don't know anyone who does) or not watching all broadcasts (which is hard to do). I'm only watching cable with the multiple channels so I know I'm missing some stuff.
I'm saying 99 percent of the world agrees with the gold medal count. Why should we judge differently just for a network to claim the USA is number one just to keep viewership up?You're dodging the question. Actually, you're agreeing with me, if you feel Nike can decide who they want to support.

Isn't that the crux of the comments? Clearly some (in this case with what was posted by another poster) is counting all medals.I agree that all athletes should be celebrated for there accomplishments but do businesses and countries agree?
Yours (and another poster from outside the U.S.) view it in the lens of thinking a poster is just trying to be nationalist towards the U.S. not everyone thinks like that.I'm saying 99 percent of the world agrees with the gold medal count. Why should we judge differently just for a network to claim the USA is number one just to keep viewership up?
I would assume so yes but I don't think it's a western country thing.Doesn't the BBC have a team GB focus? RTE an Irish focus? Rtve a Spanish focus? RAI an Italian focus? It's pretty common among Western countries.
No, my thinking is that the IOC should not side step the medal race by saying what they count in the medal table isn't technically official when all other countries are following their table. My point is that when the Olympics end, China will be called the winner most likely and world media will cover it. And they will probably capitalize on it given their government. The USA being the only country who counts total medals will claim they won and the media will do the same. And then the world looks at us strangely.Isn't that the crux of the comments? Clearly some (in this case with what was posted by another poster) is counting all medals.
I think Uganda might be happy to be listed high up there because they have a gold medal but if they had a bronze instead their accomplishment would still be there and if they only had a bronze medal they wouldn't even be visible on the list if using total medals. Their accomplishment not even thought of despite still earning a medal.

Good night. It's a yes or no question. Can't someone (or an organization) decide how they want to rank the medal table? By the way, it's not just NBC.I'm saying 99 percent of the world agrees with the gold medal count. Why should we judge differently just for a network to claim the USA is number one just to keep viewership up?
No poster here is in charge of the U.S. it doesn't negate or invalidate their opinion just because announcers/media say X.The USA being the only country who counts total medals will claim they won and the media will do the same.
