Parasailing at Castaway Cay...age limit??

This is our second Disney cruise and I was thinking last year I read something about kids having to be a certain age when parasailing or a paid adult has to go with them. Do you know if this is true? I can't find anything about ages now. My girls are 13 and 11 and plan to go together. I just don't want an unexpected charge for my wife or I to have to go with them or they won't be able to go.

I believe at those ages they must go with an adult. I'm just not sure if the "go alone" age is 13 or 16.

From the Disney Cruise web site:

Parasailing
Location: Castaway Cay
At a Glance
Activity Type: Action Adventures
Activity Level: Moderate
Duration: 45 minutes
Adult Price: $79 (ages 10 and up)
Child Price: $79 (ages 8-9)
Ages: 8 And Up

Make your way to Marges Barges, located just 100 yards from the ship's gangway — the starting point for your Parasailing adventure. After a short safety briefing, Guests will be divided into groups and escorted to your waiting boat. Meet your friendly Captain and mate and head out into open water to soar high in the sky.

This experience affords its participants the best view of Disney's tropical paradise, Castaway Cay. View the entire island, including the white-sand beaches, uninhabited bush land, and beyond. Enjoy a feeling of peace and serenity for approximately 5-7 minutes at heights of 600-1000 feet before returning to the boat with incredible memories etched in your mind.

Additional Information

Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older.
All Guests must have a paying ticket and no ride-along Guests are permitted.
Children aged 13-18 years participating unaccompanied must be escorted to Marge's Barges by an adult 18 years or older.
Wheelchairs (collapsible or electric) are not permitted.
Guests must stay on the boat for the duration of the time while other participants fly.

It is at the captain's discretion. Our friend's daughter was 13, but she's really tiny, so they made her ride with her dad. My son was 14, and they let him ride alone, even though he probably barely weighed 90 pounds dripping wet. Needless to say, our friend's daughter was not a happy camper.
Your 11 year old will not be allowed to ride alone, and I doubt that they'll even let the two girls go together. They did let our two 16 year old girls ride together.

I'm glad this thread came up:) My DS9 is about 55 lbs. We are planning to do this tandem- I assume the 90lb weight minimum is combined?

Thanks in advance:)

The 90 pound weight limit could be a combined weight...but that would mean two very small people...most likely children, and I don't think they let two kids that small go alone. For example, your son at 55, and another person/child at 40 pounds....too little/too young to go alone.

The 375 limit could be either one person, or two people combined.

If my teenage son and I went together, we'd be under the max, but not by much....and he'd sooner die than go with me anyway. ;)

I signed my 2 DS up for the excursion. One is 12 and the other will turn 16 on the cruise. I figured they would go tandem. My 12 yr old weighs a big 70lbs and he is 5'3". Boney kid!!!
They can not wait.
I planned on going to the dock with them to make sure everything was okay and if any releases had to be signed.

If your 12-year-old does not turn 13 prior to the cruise, you will have to go with him. He would have to be accompanied by someone over the age of 18 to get on the boat. Only those 13 and over can go without an adult.

It interesting that you said this because, I originally was going to book myself with him on the Parasailing. But I had to book myself for Jet Ski to hold the spot for my 15/16 year old. You have to be at least 16 to ride the jet ski alone and it would not let me book him by myself, because he turns 16 two days into our cruise. So I put him (DS16) with his brother to hold that spot. And now my DS 16 would rather go him on the parasailing. The reservation for parasailing let me book the two of them together and they know that from the reservation that they are 12 and 15 (16). The reason I did it this way is the excursion overlap. Parasailing 11:30an and Jet Ski 12noon. I guess I will have to work it out once on the cruise. I just wanted to make sure I booked things ahead of time. Also, and I know it probably would not matter but my DS 15(16) is 6' 5". He looks like he is about 17/18.

Well I am sure it will work it self out. Worst case I go parasailing and DS goes Jet Ski with his father and DB 10.:)

I think is this because you have to have 2 people from the same party to be able to book a double jet ski. With the parasailing, you just have to be accompanied by an adult 18 or older; it does not have to be someone in your party. It could be another friend or family member that accompanies them.

No, I book the 2 boys for the Parasailing. I am booked on a single jet ski and my DH is with DS 10 on a double jet ski. So, I guess I better check this out.

It would not let me book my almost 16 DS on Jet skis, but it did let me book him by himself on the Parasailing.

Thanks for your help.:)

I just check both my reservation. My 2 sons are booked with no problem by themselves for Parasailing. If you notice the information online regarding Parasailing say."Children age 13-18 participating unaccompanied must be escorted to the Marge's Barges by an adult 18 years or older."
That reads to me, that you have go with them and sign them and probably sign a release for them.
Online it says that single watercraft riders must be 16 years and older. It does not say that for the parasailing. This info is wear you book your excursions.
I notice when you try to book your excursion they flag you if the age is restricted, this did not happen with Parasailing.
I will check when I am onboard.
Again thanks for your help.

I was able to book my DD's 17 and 11 together without an adult for the parasailing for our cruise next week. No where did it flag me that it was necessary to for an adult to go with them :confused3 Hoping we don't have trouble with this - they are looking forward to it and planned to ride together.

For the jet skis however, it would not allow me to book my DD 17 on the single jet ski, she had to go with my DH.

How much is it to go parasailing? Okay, I'm bad, I didn't read it through the first time. Now I see it. "I need a vacation"

I think parasailing was $80 a person and worth every penny. :cool1:

If you have a child under 13 signed up without someone who is over 18 there is a good chance that you may have a problem when you show up to sign you waivers etc.
All passengers must pay the fee so it's not an option to just go on board to supervise.

I am the poster who's DS 12 and 15 (turning 16 on cruise), we were not flagged either. But like you said I could not book my son on a single jet ski.
I just read the jetski info again today and it said you needed to be 16 to ride alone.
I am going to get it squared away once on the ship. I called DCL regarding the age for the Jet skis and they were no help over the phone. An experience DISer told me to call and ask for a supervisor, maybe we could do that before we go.:confused3

I, too, am assuming that the 90 lb minimum is combined but I am not sure. My 8 and 9 year old are nowhere near the 90 lb limit. I don't think either of them is over 60 lbs.

It'll just be me and my DS (the one I mentioned in the above post). So with his 55 and then me we'll obviously make the weight. I just was concerned it was a per person weight :( His fav ride is Soarin (which ironically I really hate- not the heights but the screen) and he can't wait to really soar :)

90 lbs is combined for sure!! DS 13 and DD 9 are both under 90 lbs so I got to go two times once with each of them:yay:
