I currently own 150 points at OKW. If I buy 50 points at WLV, can I only reserve nights 11 months out at WLV for those 50 points or would I be able to use 200 points? Would the 50 points be able to be bought with the same use year? If not, how does that affect me? Please help me figure this all out.

The 11 month home resort priority applies only to the points owned at that resort. The total points owned may be used together at 7 months.
With banking and borrowing, your add-on can still be an effective tool for making reservations at more than one resort. Enjoy!

Doc, are you saying that I'd be able to book nights 11 months out for up to 50 points worth at WLV, and then be taking my chances to extend the trip with the remaining 150 points from OKW only 7 months out?

Yes, that is what he is saying.

One method that can work well is using banking and borrowing. Make all the reservations you can at 11 months. Try to switch them at 7 months. If you can't, cancel the VWL reservation, bank those points. Next year you can borrow the following year's 50 points. Now you will have last year's banked 50, this year's 50 and next year's borrowed 50....you will have 150 points with 11 month advantage at VWL.

By trying, cancelling, borrowin, banking and switching resorts that you stay in, owning at two resorts can be a very good thing. It can allow you to have the 11 month window at any resort you own at, what ever year you want it....WITH A LITTLE PLANNING.

You are going to have to lear the ins and outs a little better then someone with points at one resort, but as long as all your ponts are on WDW property, its all good.

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs", Karl Marx, pretty sick, huh?

Depending on when you are making the reservation, you may be OK to add to your reservation using OKW points at 7 months.

Rich's suggestion is the best way to plan though. Make the reservation at 11 months at VWL (using VWL points) and OKW (using OKW points) then try to switch the OKW reservation to VWL at 7 months- if that is where you really want to stay. Often, that will work fine. You'll find that as you get more acclimated to the DVC system, you'll find all sorts of creative ways to use your points.
Enjoy!

yes your use year would be the same if you are buying from disney unless that year is sold. I have add on with VWL for 60 points my plans being every other year in December stay there in a 1-bedroom for 5 days (using 120 points). The other year I will be staying at the BW (doing the same thing). My home resort is OKW - that I love dearly but I really like Christmas season (all the decorations) at other resorts.
