Osborne Lights-Dates Posted

The lights are on the schedule each night after Nov. 28th for sure...If you click on each date before then there is no "special event" scheduled...Starting the 28th there is this event listed as a special event when you click on each individual date...There is nothing on the schedule before...So I am "officically" upset....

It is clear at this point that those of us that went by prior years and booked our trips for after the start of the MVMCP but before Thanksgiving are SOL :(

Well based on everything I bit the bullet and changed my ADRS. I was scheduled for DHS on the 26th and open on the 28th as I didn't want to mess with the parks on the day after thanksgiving but I just changed them. So now we are leaving the 26th open. We may actually go to the studios in the morning or even back to AK, it just depends on how much we get done on Tues when we go. And then we are playing golf in the afternoon and going to Artist's point that eve for dinner. Then we are unfortunately going to fight the crowds and going to the studios on Fri. NOT what I wanted to do but unfortunately it appears I HAVE to if I want to see the lights as that is the ONLY day I can do it.

We also lost out on our Brown Derby ressie. We could go at 7 but that is RIGHT in the middle of the lights and I didn't want to miss it so we opted for Hollywood and Vine at 5:40 instead. I have never eaten at Brown Derby and now it doesn't look like I'm going to get to this trip but at least we will hopefully get to see the lights at least.

Good luck to the rest and I'm sorry it didn't work out for those going earlier in the month. We almost went a week earlier so I feel your pain!

Very, very sad and disappointed!

OMG!!! My BLOOD is boiling :stir: :furious:!!!! I have never been to Disney during the Holidays & was REALLY trying to book my trip so I could see the O Lights & MVMCP. I am so dissapointed in this I could cry...My job will simply not allow me to take vacation between Thanksgiving & New Years as I work in retail.

I am so BUMMED!!!:worried:

Thanks Robo for all your attention to this thread!!

DH just changed parks and dinner plans so we could see the Osborne lights. We could not reschedule our Thanksgiving plans as everyone is booked. But he changed some parks around and it will work out so we will still see them. This is our first trip in November. We normally come in the summer.Don't know if we will be able to do another trip in November so it would really be a bummer if we could not see the Osborne lights.

I didn't read the whole thread so I don't know if this has been mentioned, I would plan on it officially starting after thanksgiving, but last year and I think even the year before they had sneak peaks of the lights from supersoap weekend through the official start.....

I was wondering how this was done in the past. I was there the last two yrs and the lights were up since SSW, not sure if fully operating as in dancing lights, snow, etc... by then but as of a few days later they were. Don't know what the schedule said, just know the lights were up. So, I was wondering, for the last couple of yrs, when were they listed as starting for sure? And, did they show up on the link for each day? Cause, if it was a soft opening, might they just not show up on the daily links? :confused3 I'm hoping they will open early, around MVMCP time, even thought they aren't announced as been operational.

It really is terrible so many make their plans around when events are expected to be, based on previous yrs, and then Disney changes them without much warning. At this point of us finding out, many have made their plans for certain and can't change, and therefore will be very disappointed from what they expected to happen. Disney books up so fast, you can't always wait to book and expect to get a room, but then you are making many of the plans blind. That doesn't seem fair. Disney must realize many people makes their plans early, and makes them based on previous yrs events and tentative schedules. It just doesn't seem right that Disney doesn't bother to inform guests of big changes from the previous yrs before most have made their plans, knowing so many have made holiday plans based on holiday happenings, people have come expect because they are always there. Maybe they could have warned people much farther in advance that this holiday season would be different and to be aware schedules might/would change and events could be different from previous yrs. This timing really will reduce numbers of people who will be able to enjoy this beautiful holiday light display, missing TG really doesn't make any sense. :worried: We'll be there Nov 14-23. Okay, sorry to be babbling again, I get more mad as I write and get carried away! :rolleyes1

As others have said this is quite disappointing and sloppy, regarding the Osb. lights and the whole posting the hours so late, business. All of this is leading to bad feelings and disappointment in planned trips. :( As I've said before, very poor customer relations and disregard for us, disney's faithful customers! :furious:

Anyone know where we can write emails to, or did I miss that address?

I know in 2006 and 2007, the Osbourne Lights were listed as officially starting on the same date as the first MVMCP. That's what most of us were counting on happening this year also.

I, too, am now keeping my fingers crossed that they will be running previews a few weeks ahead of time. Maybe if they get enough email complaints, they will do this. I just sent my complaint email to the same address that I did when inquiring about the nov.hours. (Expecting the same generic response.)

Last year I missed it by one day. It was the day after F&W closed. This year we made our trip longer thinking we would see them. Ha! The joke is on me. I am an unhappy camper!. :(

Sad...they cut back the dates on this "free" perk, but they certainly didn't scale back the dates on MVMCP. I booked my trip thinking the lights would start the same as last year, and the joke's on me too.

Guess I won't make the same mistake next year!

I was thinking the exact same thing yesterday!!!! The only holiday event then is the ticketed MVMCP during the time I go. I would much prefer OFL than the Jingle Jungle Parade.......
I just sent an email to Disney, we'll see how they respond.

I did too, but I expect the same canned response we got while waiting for November hours.

Seems like Disney is quickly losing their magic...if they can't get it right during the planning stages, what else do we have to look forward to going downhill on our upcoming trips? :confused3

Just wait - I bet next year they'll go back to starting them early again - but will charge a special admission to that part of the park to see them....."well, here you go folks - you wanted the Osbourne Lights early, but it's going to cost you!"

Sad thing is, I'd PAY to see them this year.

Got the official word back from Disney, i emailed them the other day about the dates.... this is what they said...

Hi! Just found out the the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights
will begin on November 28, 2008. I'm sure you going to start getting
alot of emails from disappointed travelers regarding this. Since the
Osborne lights usually begin the first week of Mickey's Very Merry
Christmas Party, can you tell me the reasoning for the delay of the
opening for this Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights? and will
there be a chance the dates could possibly change?

Thanks so much!
Christine

I haven't gotten a reply yet, but I did send an e-mail expressing my disappointment. We booked 11 months ahead of time based on past scheduled. We'll still have fun, but the DGC will have to wait to see some of the Christmas magic.

As I recall, it was only in the last couple of yrs that Disney started the Osborne lights at MGM/HS earlier in Nov. In fact, ANY of the Christmas things earlier in Nov. Before, it you travelled over Thanksgiving it was all pretty normal and then VOILA on the day after Thanksgiving....EVERY hotel and park had up all their Christmas decorations/lights! They were mighty busy Thanksgiving night and it was just a spectable to behold coming down the next morning and seeing the big tree and decorations in the lobby. I actually kind of missed that magic...but understood it was so popular to see, Disney began extending it back into Nov. I guess, perhaps in a conservation effort on electricity???? Disney is back to doing it only from After T'giving going forward. Strange though they should have the parties still in Nov.:confused3

NEW POST- 6/11-08 - 2PM EDT

Even though Disney has, at last, POSTED some dates regarding
the Osborne Family Lights...

There is STILL much CONFUSION in regard to
the START DATE of the Osborne Family Lights at DHS this year.

I'm hearing what many here have said and I've tried to compile just what it is that we "know" at this point.

Take a look at the current postings from Disney-

If you click on the direct info link from Disney regarding the Osborne Family Lights at DHS-
http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/parks/specialEvents?id=OsborneLightsSpecialEventPage

This is what you'll see-

OLights-Page_11-28-08.jpg

----------------------------------------------------

But, if you click on the November Calendar page from Disney -

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wd...alendarParkHoursMonthlyViewPage&date=20081101

This is what you'll see-

----------------------------------------------------

Soooo... I'm going to GUESS
GUESS
GUESS
GUESS
GUESS
GUESS that the info that says "Nov. 28" may still be a fragment of that "OLD"
info that the Travel Agency site had posted since June 3rd, or so.
The way the site LIKELY works is that someone inputs a date or other info into a database form
and it "pops up" in many places.

But the new Nov. 13th date MIGHT
MIGHT
MIGHT
MIGHT
MIGHT be the more correct info for a Nov. DATE (even though it says 2006.)

More to come.
Stay tuned!

---------------------
Disclaimer:
I don't work for Disney.
I have no inside information.
I am only GUESSING (and HOPING) for an earlier date.

For all I know, the start date MIGHT, in fact, be Nov. 28, 2008.

+++++++++++++

Osborne Lights dates have just been posted by Disney.

for Disney's info on The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights.

They will premiere THIS year on Nov. 28, 2008.

We knew it was POSSIBLE that the Nov. 28th start was correct,
but that is not what had happened in past years.

Looks like the "official word" from Disney is a very late (and disappointing) premiere date of Nov. 28, 2008.

Hmmm. The official page for OS says 11/28. If you click on ANY day of the HS calendar before 11/28 there is no mention of OL....only from 11/28 forward. The ONLY place that gives another date is the bottom of the calendar page and it shows it starting on the 13th of 2006. Which, even if the 06 is a typo...doesn't make much sense since the first MVMCP is on the 10th and you'd think if OL was going to start earlier than Thanksgiving weekend it would coincide w/ the party. I don't know folks.....but to me, it doesn't look very hopeful for an earlier showing of OL. I guess prepare for the worst and hope for the best!!!! It certainly has been a crazy ride planning for a Nov trip this time around!!

I know as far back as 2002, we were there during the week of Veteran's Day and staying at the BC. We went to bed - no xmas decorations; woke up in the morning - the place was completely decorated!:santa:

I hope this late start of Osbourne lights doesn't also mean that the resorts won't start to be decorated! (it just keeps getting better and better>:rolleyes1 )
