"only idiots" disagree with Kerry's healthcare plan

rcyannacci, let me clarify...

Honestly, I don't particularly care what Mrs. Heinz-Kerry says. It's not a major factor as far as I'm concerned. She's obviously a successful woman who has a proclivity towards blunt comments. While that's not really a bad thing in my view, it is in a political campaign these days. I'm not saying she's got to sit there all prim and proper not saying a word.

But Mrs. Heinz-Kerry's comments are more than a strongly voiced opinion, just as Dick Cheney's comments are more than strongly voiced opinion. Both are more than a little insulting. Dick Cheney's are certainly more damning IMO, in that he is the VP candidate and Mrs. Heinz-Kerry is not running herself. But that doesn't make it ok to make such comments.

I guess I just didn't like the characterization that it's ok because the other side does it. Neither is ok IMO.

Well stated. Sorry to give you a hard time...words like "impropriety" just make me cranky ;)

In other words, I'm debating whether or not it should be debated....

This is what happens when you get a day off with nothing to do....:D

Clearly she "can" and obviously she "will" say whatever she wants. I think the issue for Kerry supporters in not whether or not she "should" say these kinds of things, but what affect it will have on his campaign. Frankly, people do not like being talked down to by the candidates...or their wives...or the vice president... anyone else that speaks "for them" (like Card)

Yes, I am also without much to do and full of the lack of will to find something to do. It's 100 degrees here, no motivation to do anything except sit here and nitpick about politics.

I agree! Where's the gripe? Apparently some people love Bush's so called "straight shooter" style of speaking, I think Mrs.Kerry is just the female version with a liberal twist!:teeth:

Well, the gripe for me is that the dumbing down of political discourse continues to escalate with each campaign. By the year 2020, we'll be grunting at eachother and deciding which candidate to vote for by which one hits the other one harder. :D

From the looks of it, you would have to be an idiot not to like it.

I think I agree with her!:teeth:

do you actually believe he will do it,,,, in reality he can do no such thing without the legislature....

as I recall Clinton was going to pass a wonderful new healthcare plan.. 8 years in office and nothing...

beware of healthcare plans that sound too good to be true, they could possibly be national healthcare plans such as Canada has, I've never talked to a canadian that thought they had good healthcare coverage, they're supposed to,,but they have to wait forever to see doctors and for surgery, so make sure you have all the details before agreeing with Theresa Heinz...

color me an idiot because I don't agree with her or her husband on anything

LOL, no need to apologize. I understand the concern.

Lets talk about insurance in MA.....John Kerry's been here for over 20 years and insurance in MA is a MESS. There are car insurance companies that won't even work in this state. Health insurance is some of the most expensive in the entire country. He couldn't make it work in ONE STATE after 20 years and you think he's going to make a difference with the entire country?

Call me an idiot, I just don't see it happening!

wvrevy, your response to me just serves to confirm my thoughts. There doesn't seem to be much point in saying any more than that to you.

To the OP...my apologies for the little "tangent" wvrevy and I took your thread on.

While I agree that the candidate's wives are not the ones running for office, like it or not, they do have an impact. Candidates' wives are in a very special postion of influence, and we all need to remember that.

I don't personally mind Mrs.Heinz Kerry's outspokenness, as I tend to be fairly outspoken myself, but I do think that she needs to be careful of being perceived as a "loose cannon". It may not be fair, it may not be right, but it is her reality right now. I also think that as the election itself looms closer, both candidates and their wives are going to have to be more careful of what they say and how they say. It's easy to get caught up in the excitement and stress of the moment, but oyu never know what may leave a lasting impression on a voter's mind.

Politics is a difficult business!

By the year 2020, we'll be grunting at eachother and deciding which candidate to vote for by which one hits the other one harder.

Actually, that might be an improvement!;)

do you actually believe he will do it

Do I think he'll try? Yes. Do I think he'll succeed? Not with a Republican House or Senate.

But, the question is, do you "LIKE" the plan, not will it ever be implemented.

color me an idiot

Ummm...what shade would that be?? At the moment I'm limited to my Crayola count 24, so don't get too fancy...

John Kerry's been here for over 20 years and insurance in MA is a MESS.

I don't think a Senator has much of a hand in state laws and insurance matters. You'd probably want to blame your state lawmakers for any insurance problems within the state.

and the number of uninsured has skyrocketed?

And John Kerry will only nominate individuals to the federal bench whose records demonstrate a respect for the full range of constitutional rights, including the right to privacy and the right to choose."

Let me tell you, as a former MA driver that moved to RI and also lived in FL, MA insurance certainly isn't a mess. I would back to MA in a heartbeat if I could afford it and one of the reasons is auto insurance and the RMV. My insurance is $700 more in RI than it was in MA for the same vehicles. And I have to go through a hassle of quotes and credit checks every time I want to switch insurers.

The reason why insurance companies don't want to cover MA is because insurance rates are set by the commonwealth and not by individual company. Not because of something Senator Kerry has done.
Also my health insurance has been through MA instead of RI because again it's cheaper and better.

Please show me where the right to choose is a constitutional right. BTW. I believe a woman has the right to choose. I just don't agree that it is a constitutional right. Remember, Woman had to be given the right to vote as an ammendment! (and I'm not saying that the suffragettes did not work hard to earn it, just stating a fact)

editied to add: BTW Women have had direct access to OB/GYN on both a Federal and State (in NJ) level for several years. This is the type of Democratic Half-truths and fear mongering that really show how fair and rational you (generic) guys can be!

I don't like Teresa Heinz, it has nothing to do with her being outspoken, but with her "delivery". Her words and responses aren't well thought out, IMO. People tend to lose credibility when they come off as a "loose cannon", whether it's a man or a woman.

I didn't care for Hillary Clinton either, but I have to admit that she is well spoken, and charismatic, qualities that Teresa does not possess. JMHO

No but the job growth he's tooting his horn about aren't the type of jobs that pay for insurance, which increases the number of people that aren't insured.

And yes the number of uninsured has skyrocketed, if you read the article.

i don't think most people would say that a 1 point change since 2000 is skyrocketing. 3.8 million more uninsured than in 2000 and 2.4 million more insured than in 2000.

no, i don't think that is skyrocketing.

Really? Every Canadian I've ever talked to would rather have their health care program then ours. Especially women who get 9 months of maternity leave rather then the 6 to 8 weeks that we receive. Actually this was being discussed for awhile on the Budget Board and most everyone agreeded that they would actually pay an increase in taxes for a health care system more like Canada.

9 months of maternity leave paid for by the govt isn't health care, it's welfare. if companies want to offer it great, otherwise, no way.

I don't believe they are paid - rather their jobs are held for 9 months.
