I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

I have always had the option to receive my card number instantly, including on Hilton co-branded.
Thank you!

I closed my Surpass on 7/28/25 after having it 'almost' 3 years. Today is 8/28, so 31 days ago. For the first time that I can remember I was denied for a card straight up - the basic Hilton Honors card. I have 2 personal Amex Marriott cards - have had them for many years plus an Amex Marriott Business card. I also have a very old Amex MR card, that is a credit card - so including Biz, 4 credit cards. Last personal card from other issuer was Chase in November 2024 and last Biz card from Chase was September 2024.

Credit score 832 - it dropped after paying off mortgage and a car loan so I have no revolving accounts except CC's. Planning on paying cash for a new car this fall but I may have to get a loan, lol!

They will mail me a 'reason' within 10 business days. I am now moving on to a different card app. Meanwhile I'm sitting on an Aspire offer - but had decided to get the no fee first and put the Aspire on hold as I wanted it in a later month.

Oh yeah - I've been an Amex customer for about 30 years or so.

So many of us getting denials....I will say "the game" has exploded. And I really feel this is almost a "first rule about fight club" kinda thing. Though I guess there needs to be some sharing otherwise we wouldn't all be in this game, LOL. But between the 2 FB groups I'm in (the mom one is the worst), people are doing 1-2 cards every month, and getting upset they are hitting road blocks. My last card was back in April. Since then I've opened 2 for my daughter and met the spend and one for my BF I helped to meet the spend. I'm sure I could get a personal card, but I'm sitting at 4/24 until Feb. So I don't necessarily just want to take that spot just because of my spends coming up.

I think I'm going to close my CIC. And then I'll try for a new one next week and then do my insurance and property taxes on it. If that fails, I guess my insurance will go onto my Surpass and my property taxes won't go on a card, LOL.

Thank you!

Sounds like the Surpass hasn't dropped from Amex's system yet. It can take a really long time, but is unpredictable. You can call and they can push it through.

Something is telling me I need to lower the amount of credit I have overall. It's really out of proportion.

I just app'd for the Southwest card and was instantly approved. It was/is an easy 100k points and the simplest decision for me right now. I have more that 12k of spend available for cards in the next month. That's 4k of it. Hate to just 'pay' it but I don't want to do a UR biz card right now. I have 2 UR biz cards (one not a year yet so can't/won't close and the other is staying with me) and 2 hotel biz cards so not sure if I'd get approved based on number of Chase biz cards.

I don't ride on airplanes but I often pay for DD's and grands to join me and SW has a presence in this area, so despite the exodus will probably still use them.

Wanted to share my latest redemption that surprised me. We are planning 3 nights in San Diego at the end of September and I was going to book using IHG points. Well, for the 3 nights at Indigo it was going to be roughly 150K IHG points! Or, using 1 FNC and then 2 nights on points, still very high. I remembered I have the CSP $50 hotel credit and the one time $50 travel credit so I took a look at that portal. I was able to book the same hotel with only 35K URs (there was a points boost) and $105, which $50 was taken off at checkout and I'll get another $50 credit. I typically hoard my URs to transfer to airlines for Biz class flights, but I couldn't turn this down! Just wanted to share in case others are wondering how to use those credits.

ETA: Cash price would have been over $800.

Try using the NLL links on Doc. Those always bypass whatever Amex seems to deem "unprofitable."

@NewbieMom - that's where I got the Surpass! The only thing that sort of put me off this time was Doc's statement to do so at your own risk.

@wanderlust7 I called and this is exactly what happened. The old card had not cleared my account. I asked the guy if it could be fixed. He suggested I give it a little time and reapply. (I didn't feel like HUCA) That's okay with me as I had gone ahead and got approved for a Chase card 5 minutes after they denied me. Actually looking around to see if anything else appeals before the Southwest hits my credit report. Or maybe I'll wait until October when I can close my CIU and get another of those.

I need another Amtrak card for the points but they are at regular level right now. I'm half an hour from the Auto train for Disney trips.
12k or 20k is pretty much peanuts when you start trying to book a bedroom and pay for the vehicle. It's been double that.

Thanks everyone for the help.

Is this number the Chase Biz Recon number?

1-800-453-9719

I had it in my notes but it was from years ago and didn't know if they updated it to a different number.

TIA for any confirmation.
