That's because the health care plan itself isn't the real issue being discussed here. The manner of Mrs. Heinz-Kerry is. Frankly, I don't think it's difficult to see that she's a liability when making such absurd comments.

The fact that Dick Cheney's comments were out of line does nothing to mitigate the impropriety of Mrs. Heinz-Kerry's comments.

I think the OP stated she didn't want a healthcare debate. Which is why I didn't comment on it.

Right. But, for the record, I am interested in a healthcare debate. But, not if the two sides are going to reduce it to name calling, as Heinz did, which was the point of this thread. A thread on healthcare might be appropriate, but it's such a broad issue that I'm not sure which angle from which to take it on.

Does it matter? What if only 30% of the American public disagrees with his healthcare plan? Are they idiots? I can see from the post you made after this, that you indeed think people who disagree with his plan are idiots. That's really not productive.

Nor have I EVER said you or any other poster on this forum was an idiot for merely disagreeing with me. However, there have been polls released recently that show that only about 48% of the people polled thought Bush was doing a good job as president, and yet 51% were (at least) leaning towards voting for him. So in other words, at least 3% of those polled thought the president was doing a bad job, BUT STILL PLANNED TO VOTE FOR HIM. There may be nicer ways of saying it, but "idiot" certainly fits the bill.

The difference is obvious. Bush has a record, and that record shows that not only has terrorism increased under his "brilliant" policies, but so has international resentment of the US, even among our allies. Are you arguing that the world is a safer place today than it was in October of 2001 ? If so, I'd love to hear how anyone could possibly believe that.

From all the boards and all the threads, you are the first Kerry supporter that I have seen, admit that something was not perfect!

ITA with you, and even though I'm a President Bush supporter, most of you have probably seen where I too find something wrong or amazingly funny about my candidate or team.

Maybe they think Bush isn't doing a great job but hold the opinion that Kerry would do worse. But, they must be "idiots"

Personally I think both camps are prone to hyperbole while on the campaign trail. Fact is, they all think we're all idiots. Maybe they're right, we keep voting them in, after all.

I know libs like to think 'simply' but have you ever thought that these people have made their decision based on the fact that Kerry would be the worst between the two?

No, I'm not a firm Bush supporter, as I have said. re you calling me a liar? I don't see much of a difference between the two of them. I'm voting for Bush because I dislike his platform less than I dislike Kerry's.

Come on, jrydberg. I usually agree with you on a lot of things, but won't a discussion of politician's wives and "impropriety" take us way back to 1950's notions of femininity?

(to everyone else) This is a woman negotiating a new terrain of political life and speaking, and I think we can all see her discomfort at being placed in the fishbowl. Laura Bush has expressed a similar discomfort, and has chosen to primarily remove herself from the public's eye unless she's in a library or standing in front of one of her flower beds. And, there's nothing wrong with that. What's depressing to me is that the public seems to only to embrace this image of the silent but supportive wife but attack any other woman who speaks in a strong, improvizational public voice.

The point of these attacks against Teresa Heinz is to make Kerry look less macho, the image of the husband who has no control over his nagging wife (an image that's been around at least since the scenes of Noah and his wife in the cycle plays of medieval Europe). Same thing with Bill and Hillary.

Only this backfired a bit, yes? Gave Hillary enought power to become a strong female voice in the Senate.

I may not like everything I hear all the time, but I sure do love to see women using their public voices to express thier beliefs.

Come on wrevy, this is your first post, that you didn't think before making (unlike me, I seldom think). I believe on another thread you pointed out the danger of polls with poor wording. The way I think (I know it IS scary) is that a President should be graded Excellent (A), Good (B), Fair or Average (C), Poor (D) and Terrible, Horrible, Bad (No I will not type Kerry here, I am in control, I will not typer Kerry here!)

So, being fair if only 48% think President Bush is Good (I do not know if this % includes Excellent, or not), but 51% are voting for him, it could be the other 3% find the President Average, or even poor, not necessarilay bad. Remember a D (Poor) is still passing!

I think history will show again that the name calling, hate mongering, and fear sowing, started with and was perfected by the Democrats. That is not denying that there has been some Republican response but if the boards here are a microcosm reflection of the outside world, then yes you (generic Democrat) are the nasty guys!

Ok, drop the word "firm". I call someone who's voting for Bush a Bush supporter. You call it whatever you want.

I also think what the wives or husbands of candidates say is of little or no importance and that those who choose to focus on such trivial matters are just looking for something to complain about.
