Oh just stop it. It's a politically charged issue and you know it. Politicians were out pushing their policy agendas in record time after it happened. And we can't full respond here without pushing the boundaries of what is allowed in this particular forum.

Shootings are not a politically charged issue. No one agrees they are a good thing.

The guns were purchase legally. The shooter yesterday did not have a prior record that would preclude them from purchasing a gun. It doesn’t sound like there was a history of mental health issues either (yet). Obviously we would assume mental health issues though as what sane person shoots children?

The mere fact that he had decided he was "transgender" is in fact, a sign of mental illness. That correlation got pointed out very early in this discussion and was very quickly dismissed - why? There has definitely been a correlation in the recent past. I could not tell you why that is, but the data does not lie. If that was all that has been uncovered in the last 24 hours then maybe you could call me nasty names for pointing it out - but no. This guy had all sorts of mental health issues, and ignoring it cost lives. We really need to stop politicizing and start addressing the mental health crisis in this country.

It sounds like the shooter changed her name in 2020, so why now?

Does being transgender cause someone to buy a gun and murder people? How many trans people are out there that have not committed a violent act? Do you think they are mentally ill as well?

Just being transgender does not make someone mentally unstable. There are plenty of non trans people who are mentally unstable….

Even if it was (which it’s not), having that as a listed mental illness wouldn’t have prevented the individual from purchasing anything that was used yesterday.

Exactly…. Just having a diagnosed mental illness does not mean someone is, or will be, violent. I’m sure many people with anxiety have a gun.

Also, many shooters didn’t seek help and had no official diagnosis.

I think transphobic comments probably aren't allowed on the regular community board. You might need to head over to the controversial section if you want to say stuff like that.

As a mom of a Catholic school student in Minnesota, whose school went on lockdown yesterday, whose school will have their first school mass (open to the public) next week, whose schoolmates had extended family members who were in the operating room yesterday as a result of this awful event, and who is now nervous just to go to church…please (1) keep the victims, their families, their classmates, and their communities in your thoughts, (2) please advocate for more mental health services in all communities, and (3) let’s focus this thread less on the perpetrator, as I don’t think that was the intent of the first post.

I’m right there with you . I think all the MN parents with school aged children this way right now.
